In this video I want to show you something interesting I found while looking at a bliss track in one of my analyzers. We will use some of the information we gather to create a different yet similar bassline from scratch. I'll also talk about how I go about implementing ideas from other artists in my own productions.

Projektor is an alias I started around august 2019. Under this alias I started posting psytrance music with a clear emphasis on theming and a more progressive or mainstream style than other producers. The goal of the Projektor alias is to release memorable music which works well on the dancefloor. Around january 2020 I started posting tutorials and other helpful videos on youtube again under the Projektor alias. Together with these videos I started selling several products which can be used to improve your productions. I have always believed music production knowledge should be shared and that is now one of my main goals with the Projektor alias. Currently Projektor is the only alias under which I release music, videos or products but this might change in the future!

    Aye man! I missed the review but thank you for the feedback anyways! It was cool to see you vibe to some of the parts of my track! Especially where the trap drums were added, with the guitar solo. The thing is with these orchestral type stuff, that they are usually not as heavily mixed as other genres like techno, where you ususally rely on sound desgning and mixing pretty much. Yeah, its a hybrid as I said in the discord message, but besides the point as the most logical thing seems to be making those string spiccatos louder somehow, you cannot really do that because you would lose some of the "realism" that these sample libraries have. I probably just should have just take out some of those brass instruments (cuz I layered quite a few), and it would have solved the problem, but I realized it a bit too late. And I'm working on a really slow computer, with so many resource heavy plugins, which means even a little volume adjusting can take minutes. So I just kind of left most of the stuff with some mixing, but its still not the best. You can still think of those brass stabs as the main element thad kind of leads the track, in a sense! For the muddiness, I kind of agree with you. Those cinematic percussions and trailer hits I used create a lot of mud. I probably should have chosen differen sounds for that matter, but it is what it is. I think overall it doesn't ruin the big picture, but still kind of takes away from it. Hopefully it's not critical. I also agree with what you said about mono-compatibility. After adding so many layers to these kind of tracks, you'll have to let these things go. Also these plugins that I used are already stereo because they are real instruments recorded in big studios. Anyways, thank you for the feedback again, and I'm happy you liked my piece! As always your words were really helpful!

    • @Projektor_music
      @Projektor_music Před 22 hodinami

      Hey man, glad you like the feedback... Maybe a bit of a misconception but both for sample library based music as well as properly recorded orchestra's there is plenty of mixing to be done... it is true that in a real recorded orchestra you don't tend to do a lot of room emulation (reverb) cus you already got the room in there, usually captured with room mics. but each instrument or group is often individually recorded and needs to be balanced against the other recordings. Anytime you see multiple microphones in a recording setup you can bet there is mixing involved after the recording. For sample library based music this is obviously something you should mix as each instrument is usually positioned differently from the microphone when recording orchestra vs recording sample libraries. Of course you want to emulate the real recording with your sample libraries which involves minimizing the differences introduced by the process descrived above, which is mixing... I understand you may deal with slow hardware which sucks & I know how you feel. I personally suggest rendering out stems from your DAW or production project and importing them in a mixing focused DAW like reaper (60$ highly reccomend) as audio. "You can still think of those brass stabs as the main element thad kind of leads the track, in a sense! " I'd disagree, the musical idea clearly suggests the melodic strings are the main melody & in my opinion should be mixed accordingly.

    Not trying to hate or be an asshole, I enjoy most of your content. Maybe I'm the one missing the point, maybe I'm seeing it all wrong and please tell me if I am. Opinions, perspectives, critique, etc... I'm one of those people who would have preferred a one to one recreation or decent attempt thereof. In this case anyway. I'm not as interested in the actual sound of the bass itself as long as the technique isn't accurate enough. I'll create a bass tone that I enjoy myself. Its the groove and technical proficiency that is what I believe is on display in the original track. It seems barely any of it was shown here. Sure, the kick may be ducking bass in the original, but how to make it sound like they are on top of each other is what I believe is crucial to this groove/sound. Half of the hypothesis set at the start weren't answered. No time spent on the kick, barely any time spent on the interaction between the kick and sub/bass. If its the clean-up proces that makes this groove what it is, then I believe that should have been included. You showed us how you would do it, which is fine and surely appreciated by many, but for me it misses the point. Adopting whats shown here won't ever result in a groove remotely close to the original. How is anybody supposed to adopt a certain sound if they don't get the right information? Could've just showed how to do it properly and then adopted it, right? Btw, I'm not trying to say this lesson was worthless to me. I get what you're saying at the end about copying and being original, as far as that goes in music, but its not really up to you to decide for other people whether they should just blatantly copy or not. You said it yourself; These people blatantly copying others are much less likely to make any impact, progress or benefit from it in any way (paraphrased). So, why care about that at all or let it influence your content? The original and authentic artists will stand out in a sea of copycats anyway, maybe even more so. <3
