I generally favor "lightweight" backpacking, meaning that my focus is more on mileage than being comfortable in camp. I've thru-hiked the Benton MacKaye Trail, the Sheltowee Trace in Kentucky, the Appalachian Trail, the Colorado Trail, the Foothills Trail, the Georgia Loop, and the Bartram Trail.

Here it is 2024 July 06sa and this is still such a cool, informative video
I am enjoying your videos. I’ve been trimming my pack weight significantly. I never considered ditching the stove, even though I’m used to eating cold lunches at work. Quite often there’s not a microwave on my jobs and I end up eating the previous days dinner cold for lunch. Stir fry, spaghetti, you name it and it all tastes pretty good. My Cook kit is 12 ounces I could shave if I wanted to.
240629SA Still a fan-dam-tastic video. Evan is up there as one of the 10 or so hikers I admire the most. Video INTERESTING, INFORMATIVE. A&D the best ointment
Well, after having watched your AT thru hike and your Colorado trail hike, it was fun to see how your videography and storytelling has grown since your early years. Even your overall kit has changed and become very streamline since this hike! I’ve really enjoyed all your videos, storytelling and videography this whole while! But it was definitely fun to see more of your beginnings here! Great job on this hike! Especially traveling such a less traveled trail! My heart dropped at the boar story! I really enjoyed learning about the blister care and I’m glad you had help for that! Take care and keep hiking!
Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Watching for the first time 240628FR. GREAT Video after all these years. Too bad not many near as great.
Thanks as always, really appreciate it!
Five years old and STILL some of the GREATEST of ALL HIKING VIDEOS. Thx Evan. Again
I just got a hammok with a bug net. What im gonna do when theres no trees is hace a tarpover me and lay thw hammok on a soft underneath like a blanket and then its multipurpose. So when there is trees i can still use as a hammok without a tent. It doesn't get cold here so im excited
Watched again today. Still, and always a GREAT VIDEO
I had never come across your channel until today so this is the first video of yours I have seen! Thank you, it was quite an adventure.
Great video and trail hiking. Loved the sites.
What a beautiful and inspiring video. Thanks for sharing it with us brother.
STILL some of the best hiking videos in CZcams. Hands DOWN😁
If you get hurt out there, how do you get rescued?
This is amazing video my friend. I am very envious. I’m 47 years old and I’m just now thinking about getting into hiking. I’m going to start off small and try to work my way big in the next couple of years. Thank you for the experience❤
You can tell that's pre-covid. Thanks for sharing.
Wow this was so cool to watch an get the whole experience thru everything in every aspect: from the terrain to the rivers ans mountain tops...very exhilarating to catch the moments you went thru. Thanks for sharing your experiences. ❤
Absolutely fantastic. I have many disabilities and love the woods. Love hiking but cannot walk as well but I do it on my time. I went to the Ap trail NC and TN. Just to see it and hike what I can . It’s so cool and if I was not full of bone issues I would do this. Through your video I actually feel like I know what it’s about. I absolutely loved this. I did not know it was this busy. I was out there in March . Crazy and so cool
My 88-year-old uncle once had a dream to hike the Appalachian trail but he never got around to it. I went to visit him and he lived near boiling springs and I expressed interest in the trail to him. Wanted to go take pictures of the trail etc but was surprised that he asked me to hike it with him. He had never been on the trail after all the years of living near it and thinking about it. We did 3.5 mi and I know that's not much but it was a huge accomplishment for an 88-year-old! I decided I want to go back to that same spot and hike it when I turn 88!! I was excited that my first person that I met on the trail was a through hiker. Inspired and so many ways
Tying ready to start CO Trail this July 17, 2024. What I’m wondering is whether to take Collegiate East or West? What’s the difference? Is one easier than the other? Shorter? If you can reply I’d sure appreciate it!
Good job!
Your wearing a size too big
My husband and I, who love to hike and dream of hiking the AP but knowing we aren’t in the right shape, just watched your entire video and it wasn’t the first time I’ve watched it. My mom passed away 2 years ago and while she was sick, on hospice my dad and I would set by her in the living room and watch AT videos, I always thought yours was one of the best, and Handstand! I cried as you reached the summit to Mt Katahdin. Congrats!
My goal is to do a keto hike as I am keto in my day to day life and have never felt better.
Very nice video.
U can't use a mountain bike ? Just asking ..I'm a big hiker .. Iv hike the GRAND CANYON..many times..Iv hike the San Francisco peaks many time too ..
Wow, I'm 11 mins in. So far enjoying all the information you're sharing as you go from the trails, shelter to shelter.. I got to share I started watching before you a different AT thru hiker. Its was how he feels about life and etc. after 15 mins. it wasn't my cup of tea. U know. . Then Yay i found your AT vid. Thank you for sharing your hike and knowledge as your going.🙌💪🕊️
We need someone to do this on carnivore, for science. We have done keto since we read Taubes' book in 2009. The year before last, my husband started doing carnivore, and talked me into it last year. We won't be going back to eating how we were. We feel even better than we were already feeling. I see the absolute junk food these hikers eat, they're likely to wind up as big as a house when they get home and aren't expending all that energy. Not to mention all the poisonous seed oils they are consuming are likely to wreck their metabolism even more.
my plan was sandals up north when river crossing is constant
Great documentary!
Hi Evan I did send you a email. Nice to meet you at Trail Days! Happy hiking!

What a great adventure, thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you for sharing your journey. I am thinking of doing a small section in Rangeley ME when I am up there this summer from The cross over at bemis rd up to the look over The height of the land. It overlooks Mooselookmeguntic lake. But just not sure if it will be a okay section to also travel with my 9yr old. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thankyou I felt I was on the trail with you. I'm preparing to hike the trail in 2026 you helped me a lot. Thanks, again
awesome journey thank you so much for sharing it with the world .
Been thru it twice and your advice is spot on my friend!
"Tiny backpacks"-very funny : )
Just say their trail names.
Hello I watched all of your AT hike a few years back. I have a question. My youngest son is hiking the AT this year, and me and my oldest son plan to meet him in Lincoln to hike a couple days north with him. I never been there or much any where for that matter, so I was hoping you could give me your suggestion on the best way to go about doing that? I really don’t know where to stay or what options there are.
🫂sharing🫂thankYOU
This twat waffle collapsed !!!!
Love shenandoah park. I go there all the time mostly to Old rag and White oak canyon.
Just followed your AT thru hike on CZcams!!! Great job and congrats on completing your AT adventure!!! It brought so many memories back of our hike in 1997. No cell phones, equipment so different. Just comjng out with camel back water systems. Our trail names were Pixie, earthsurfer aka ES, flash, Aunt Marti aka snack lady. We were given our group name Swiss family by Lewis and Clark. Aunt Marti and Pixie completed together and first mother/daughter to complete a thru hike. Due to circumstances ES had a portion to finish from Connecticut to PA and completed in Nov. All summited Katahdin together in Oct. What an adventure!!!🥾🥾🥾🥾
I'm looking for a decent, affordable, bug net that is similar to yours but preferably has a side zipper and a spreader bar....
❤
So happy your making hiking videos too! Love your videos & Liz's videos too❣️ Y'all's hiking friendship is great because I worry bout people hiking alone those videos give me anxiety 😂
Heading out to do some trail magic with some 2020’ers over Memorial Day weekend… Wanna come join? Southern Shennies/waynesboro area.. day hike, hot dogs, blackberry berlinnerweisse! You’ll love it!
Strange he only filmed when it was raining...
My daughter, Jillian Buckets, was on trail with you, she only made the 1/4 way mark. I am thankful for your video. Seeing the orange tag and the 1/4 way sign meant the world to me.... for more reasons than you can know. Thankful to see the paths she crossed..... wish she could have made it to "K". Her tramily "Scatter" and "Valc" carried her bucket to Katadin ❤ so glad I stumbled upon your video.
I'm planning on doing the same thing when I through hike the Colorado Trail next year. What map should I use to find your campsite just below treeline?
I don’t know if the campsite is on a map, but follow the trail up the mountain and you’ll see it.
