Do you mind if I ask which brand of paint you use? Because different brands have different hues on their Raw Sienna, for example, so you get widely differing results. :)
Hi Hannah,,,, you are so right,Cerulean blue is different in every brand of paint! I've been using American Journey (Cheap joes art stuff) for over 20 years,I like their 37 ml tubes and are well priced,,, Hope this helps! Friend Don
@@DonAndrewsAWS Thank you so much, it really does! ☺️

Truly AMAZING!❤
Hi Crest Moi Nilda,,,,,thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Friend Don
Is your brush wet or dry?
Hi Ingrid,,, I don't understand your question,,,,,
@@DonAndrewsAWS when you add paint to your brush, have you cleaned your brush and left a lot of water on it, or dried it off before working with the paint?
Beautiful!
Thank you M'Lady!
I have taken an indescribably wonderful workshop in San Miguel in the 90's. You are the best! Patsy
Hi Patricia,,,thank you, San Miguel is special!!!
I love that curtain of colors. That's a very effective technique. And you manage to achieve nice modulation and contrast in several ways: contrasting colors/temperatures, lighter and darker tonal variations, and highly saturated versus muted grays. All while 'lifting' the curtain down toward the horizon to back light the trees, house, and land masses. A really nice study!
Hi David,,,thank you for your kind words,,,I appreciate it! Friend Don
Thank you, for sharing your experience and talent . I like the background, it is bright and colorful, instead of gray like I usually add to a background.
Hi Donald,,, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Friend Don
Don, have you ever painted your dogs? It would be cool to see if you have!

Thank you @sbialka3591!
This was a great demo.It was so instructive to see your process. And I love the friendly, relaxed way that you share your mastery with us. You have a kind warmth and humour that is as lovely as the finished painting. Thank you for sharing this video with us.
Hi Tessellatia,,,,I appreciate your kind words! Friend Don
There is a Robert E wood who paints in oils; he has a grandfather of same name.. which one are you referring to?
Hey Old Man,,,, You are correct that there was an oil painter Robert Wood well known for his land and seascapes with reproductions popular in furniture and home furnishings stores all across the US back in the 50s,60s but that's not Bob,,,,, to end the confusion my mentor began signing his paintings Robert E. Wood ( Earl ).
Thank you for generously let us peek into your painting process. The finished picture is lovely. And the tip about figure sizing was just great! I will be sure to try that.
Hi Tessellatia,,,,you're very welcome! Friend Don

Hi Barbou2you,,,,thank you! Friend Don
I found the demo truly inspiring. Thank you Don. It was like the missing ingredient from a lot of teaching I’ve had in water colour. Like carving out a hidden figure from an uncared block.
Hi Howard,,, I appreciate your comments!
Thanks for this wonderful video, Don. It's very helpful! That Robert E. Wood painting you showed early on is stunning. Do you know the name of it? I'd like to acquire a giclée print of it, if I can find one.
Hi David,,,thank you, I don't know the title but go to Robert E Woods website, the painting is listed under Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery,,,I would also go to California Watercolor , they sell lots of prints including Robert E,,,,Hope this helps! Friend Don

Hi John,,,, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, won't you join us? Friend Don
It’s negative painting that really changes perspective in watercolor painting. Rules of watercolor are very different then other mediums. My sister is a gallery oil paint artist and was dumbfounded by differences in watercolor applications. She couldn’t paint in watercolor which shocked us both. I love absolutely watercolor painting❤
Hi Cindy3C,,,yes,you're right,,thinking in terms of negative space and painting lighter to darker as opposed to painting darker to lighter are the two mental differences in these two mediums! Friend Don
You manage to pass along these big ideas, maybe even game changing for me with such simplicity and humbleness, its a joy to look and understand your thought process while painting. Big thank you!

Hi AleksdeArt,,, we're glad to have you with us! Friend Don
I’ve been enjoying your beautiful colours and painting processes! Thank you for sharing your methods. I have a question, when you say “ granular wash” do you mean you use granulating paints? Or is it just your process of letting them run down the page wet in wet? Thank you 😊
Hi Monkeylovenut,,,, it's the process of letting the pigment run down the page wet into wet!
This is a game changer for me! Fabulous thanks Don😊
Hi Moira,,,yes,it was for me too!
Hey Don, I have a stack of Robert E Wood photographs from back in the day. My father, J.R. Hamil was a well know watercolor artist here in Kansas City and once worked at Hallmark. He passed a couple years ago and I’m scanning all his photos to digital and came across a stack with Robert’s name on the back. They appear to be from the 60’s and wanted to get them to his family. Any help would be appreciated… Andy Hamil
Hi Tugg,,,,, sorry to not be of help but his wife Jane moved out of their home in California over 20 years ago and I don't know where she went, I know he and his first wife had 2 or 3 children but I never met them! Sorry,Friend Don
I've forgotten your wonderful use of really wet on wet. I may have to go back to some water colors.
Hi again Jack,,,,,thank you! Friend Don
Oh my God I can't believe you're on video. It's been so so very long. This is Jack Daniel. I'm not painting with watercolors anymore. I'm painting with oils, but I'm about to be a great-grandmother. And I wanted to do a little watercolor for my soon to be little baby granddaughter. It's so good to see you. And it's wonderful to hear you and Martha are doing well. Love love the video.
Hi Jack,,,, good to hear from you! Guatemala was an adventure, such fond memories! Martha sends love and we're both glad you're doing well, many congrats on becoming a great grandmother!!!!!! Friend Don
