Is a limited palette limited? Intermixing primary colors gives your painting unity; so the trees aren't just green...they're the right green to compliment your painting.
Join Don in his video "Color Harmony" while he demonstrates how to mix the 3 primary colors (light and dark reds, blues and yellows) to create a beautiful harmonious watercolor painting.

The darker colors get a lot better discerning once they dry, so whoever is watching the video don't worry much if they're too dark at first, just keep watching, this video is priceless. Thank you so much.
Don, you are my favorite painter. I have been watching you for a few years now. I’m a novice, and I have learned so much from you. I just love how you introduced Martha to us. She is priceless. It’s evident you truly love, respect and value her. 💗
Hi Anne-Marie,,,thank you so much for your kind words, yes,,,,Martha is a great girl! Friend Don
Ladies and gents, the legend of Don Andrews is alive and kicking! Two big, fat thumbs up!
Oh, Martha is beautiful. You can see such love between you. Thank you for giving us this wonderful treat for free!
Great dual video covering color theory of a “limited palette” followed by a demo showing the possibilities. No mud, nice harmony of color in the demo painting. Audio and video were right on point. Well done
Your work and instruction is so much better than the number of subs would imply. Stay at it!
Hi Jason,,, thank you for your kind words,,,,and I'm just getting started! Friend Don
Great demo of color harmony by mixing and limiting what you are using. Thank you Don!
My pleasure!
Been making my way through your videos. Great that you and Martha are working on them together. Very much enjoying your beautiful paintings. Your tips and instructions have been very helpful. Watching you paint is maybe the most helpful. Thanks, thumbs up, and subscribed. Your videos, paintings and CZcams channel definitely merit way more views and subscribers.
Thanks again Thomas! Friend Don
I agree with @lilybay1 and can add: This is just about the best explanation and demonstration of using the “three primaries” that I have found on the ‘net’. Many videos about this important fundamental knowledge/skill that I have watched are not as straight forward, clear or complete as yours. A ‘limited palette’ truly does not limit (much) the colors one can make. As you demonstrate so skillfully, using warm and cool versions of the three primaries in a painting ‘almost’ insures the colors will harmonize. Don's running commentary as he painted was very good (even if he doesn't think so). Thank you Martha & Don.
I especially appreciate Martha’s moving the “palette insert” whenever it was hiding Don’s paint application. By the way, I’m speaking as an ‘accomplished artist’ with published works who is exploring this incredible explosion of on-line art instruction to see if I might be able contribute constructively to it.
Thank you so much for your kind words, and Martha will be grateful to hear this!
Thank you for sharing. You two are awesome!
I am happy to see you are making these historical videos. Good work.
i'm learning watercolours at the moment and i loved watching this. Especially the playfulness with the first marks in the wet paper, and softening the lines whenever something is dry
Thank you inMuro,,,,, I hope the videos help! Friend Don
Phenomenal. Thank you, Martha and Don for taking the time to put this together. It's quite interesting to see years of experience come together for such seemingly simple concepts in demonstration, as it has clearly become second nature. The value is apparent. Thank you for sharing this valuable lesson! 🙏🏻
I loved watching this video to see and hear your thought process. Love your use of colour and so happy I found your channel. Thank you.
Thank you for making it simple
Hi Don, I think your the best..

Hi Arturo,,,my old friend, Martha and I miss you and wish you the happiest life in 2023!!!
Marvelous teacher. Takes me to the next level of artist interpretations rather than just copy documentation of the scene
Love watching you paint!! Learn so much!
Thanks so much 😊
This has made my day. Thank you
I learned so much about color harmony in the first 30 minutes! Thanks so much. When I think of all the $$ spent/wasted on different colors and how I could have achieved the same or even a better result with a limited palette.
With a limited pallette! WOW! Did you onow there's a guy who actually does quick Coffee Colors? Yeah, his only medium is dark coffee..he was pretty good too! I think he was on a Short.
Thank you so much for sharing so generously. You’re my new favourite teacher. I’m spellbound by your beautiful talent. 🥰🙏🇨🇦
Thanks so much 😊
Beautiful couple!
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I've learned a lot in this video.
Thanks Yangchen,,,so glad you enjoyed it! Friend Don
Awesome video! Thank you. So, if you used a limited palette of the 3 primaries you can make any color. So all of those colors would look well together? Or to look at it in reverse, if you took any random color, it has one or a combination of the three primaries.
Hi Barbara,,,, yes you are correct, you can prove this to yourself by going to any print shop ,,,they only have the three primaries and black! Friend Don
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you
Thank you too!
We love you guys by the way do you two collaborate on paintings by implementing step by step masking fluids to. CReate your masterpiece.
Hi Wendy... glad you enjoyed the video,,, no, we don't use much masking fluid! Friend Don
