Yea I’m still not exactly sure which I like best on this guitar yet. So far, I think Elixir 80/20 nano (which is stock on this) but I always shred the coating. I have found that with lighter gauges, you loose a little in the low midrange, which can be good. I used to just think volume and bass. Some sets I do like better in 11. Elixirs are one that scoop a lot of mids out, so I like those in 12 better. I really like the string joy but wish they came in a coated 80/20. The 80/20 oxidizes so fast but my mahogany back and sides guitar is a little warm for phosphor bronze.

Yes, actually! I love the sound but stopped using them. They feel pretty rough even compared to other alloys of non coated strings. Aluminum is pretty soft and they turn my fingers black. My fingers don’t normally react much to strings. They get kinda dull after about a week. I wish they made coated versions. On to find something else.

True about the way they leave your fingers black. I’ve only put them on a cheap guitar and I was considering trying them again on a better acoustic, but maybe not…

This pertains to my guitar with mahogany back and sides. I love the sound of the AB because 80/20 has a deep bass but can sound harsh with a pick and empty on finger style. Phosphor bronze has nice low mids but not the deep bass, good sustain but lacks sparkle and can sound boxy when strummed hard. The ABs sound good on everything but like you said, are rough. I did find an old set of Dean Markley vintage bronze. They have a similar sound to the AB with maybe less bright high end but are cheap and smooth to the touch. Sounds good on any style I’ve tried so far. They are an in between alloy at 85/15. There are other brands with similar alloys too. Maybe something worth looking into.

I used the stock protools plug-in Eleven MK II, a Marshall one, then stock studio reverb. I used to use THU, Logic plug-ins or Guitar Rig but I found the Eleven is the most mix ready and I don’t need to use any post EQ or effects. I can’t use my tube amp in my house, too loud.

I can't give you a source to learn, as I transitioned from guitar. I'll just say, start learning G C D chords. Then find songs that use those chords and go from there. Add chords as you find songs with them.

Thanks! It's a Guild D120ce. All solid mahogany. Mic is a Slate ML-1 Vms. It emulates vintage mics. I'm using the Neumann U-67 model. Just a cheaper Audio Technica AE-3000 on guitar. Positioned higher than sound hole, pointed at neck. Appreciate the comment!
