Haha, who would not want to live in London? Me! I’ve been there 3 times and it’s just culturally cold, boring and drab. Food is 🤮. People are nice, very nice. It’s just not me. When I come to Greece, I instantly feel alive. The smell. The abundance of great food. Just an easy place to enjoy. Yes, it’s not perfect, but nowhere is. Peace out. 😉

I understand what you are saying. I have a simple and peaceful life in Greece, but that is all because I worked in the USA and was able to save $ and have what I have in Greece today. Some things I don't like about Greece like the cab drivers and the stray animals that break my heart, but overall, it's home. I also am drawn to Greece because of my faith, I love my Orthodox faith.

Wow, just when i think i can't hear any more wisdom from you, i hear more by the bucket load. Thank you, my friend. My wife and I are currently moving from Alberta to New Brunswick, Canada. We are on the road as I type. We have become tired with the pace, the politics, the mentality of a lot of people in the cities in Alberta. So we are moving. As a Brit, half Greek living in Canada, I can say with 100% certainty that i fully relate to your reflections here. I came to Canada to be with my Canadian wife, but Canada has disappointed me so far. Let's see what this move brings. I am pining for Greece but i know right now at least it wouldn't be right for me and my wife. Being an immigrant with multiple identities is not easy, especially when your home country was not serving you well. I say this because if it was, you wouldn't have left in the first place. That is my experience with the UK. I am so aware of my privilege of being able to move around BUT that privilege should not get in the way of wanting a fulfilling life. Thank you as always for your thoughts and wisdom, and for making this video off the bat.

Well when we were preparing our paperwork with the consulate of Greece they provided us with paperwork with all of the rights we had as a repatriated family from outside of Greece. Wellllllll……..it was a total pack of LIES! Upon arriving we tried to meet with the elementary school for my daughters education. She was not available even after the school year started. They tossed her from class to class and no one teacher wanted to have her in their class. Contacting the consulate we were working with and informed them of what was happening, they informed us the school was obligated to provide her with an instructor to help teachers her the language. Well that was a lie according to the school staff. After three or four days of my daughter being left out of a classroom in the commons area, we did not take her to school. Around 2:30 in the afternoon the principal called us in a panic asking us where my daughter was. Well being a vengeful US Marine I immediately jumped into the attack mode and said "what, where is she?" They had no answer. So I drove over to the school with my wife and daughter and approached the principal and she immediately jumped into attack mode against us. Even another instructor joined into the argument. We informed them that my daughter informed us that of the few days she was at this school, each teacher took her out and had her wait in the commons area, not acceptable. The other instructor jumped into our faces and said "we don’t have to accept foreigners in our school" not the right thing to say to a pissed off father. I informed her that even though I was born and raised in the States I was 100% Greek, owned property in this country for many years and paid heavily the taxes for these properties and she should shut her mouth. It’s a miracle I did not deck her for her rudeness. Short end, I went to the school superintendent and informed her that because of the issues we had with the school in our neighborhood we were taking her out of school and would either home school her or the American school in Athens. She responded with a lie and said it was illegal to home school or to send her to the school in Athens. ALL LIES! ALL LIES! Even the paperwork we received from the consulate for various rights we had as repatriated individuals was a pack of lies! One has to understand the mindset of a race of people who for over four hundred years they were under the corrupt rule of the ottoman turks who demanded bribes from the people of Greece to do anything "legally", well after their independence those who worked in public service carried on with the same mindset making thousands of if not millions of Drachmas from the poor people of this country. The economic crisis was brought about by the socialist policies of Andreas Papandreaou in the yeas he was in office. They allowed nepotistic practices of hiring friends and family into jobs that they were not qualified to hold lacking the proper education. They Could not be fired since they held government jobs, they could retire at 55 years of age with a lump sum settlement as well as a monthly retirement allotment. Many times these people were not even at work which caused massive delays for the public who needed paperwork and many times they were told to return with other paperwork to complete the first round of paperwork. All because they were tenured workers who did not know their job.

Unfortunately, Canada has changed a lot and is not the wonderful country it used to be. Many people in my social circles talk about leaving and some have. I told my wife for us to move to Greece if she wanted to. Not just for us, but for are children too. She's not ready for that type of change in our lives yet. Funny enough, Nafplio is one of the places I considered moving too and that somehow ked me to your channel.

A typical stereotype of living in America is that we have money. Almost every other Greek that I’ve come across in Greece assume that boy are they wrong. I work a trade and hustle and the money isn’t enough. Most of us just get by and let me tell you something. I’ve also noticed that Greeks from Greece are generally happier than us here. Don’t get me wrong I love this country but it’s not an easy life. You’re always on the go rush rush and half that the time there’s no reason to.

I am in Greece at the moment on vacation. I have been talking to a lot of Greeks while here, business owners, taxi drivers, hospitality workers, bank staff, my own cousins and relatives etc. They are not happier.......most I've spoken to are struggling. Most hate their life in Athens. It's a harsh, gritty city with crumbling infrastructure. But they have few options to leave. Life provides challenges wherever you live, but economic opportunity is not the same everywhere.

They told me I would be going back ten steps in life but I did it because I wanted to find myself and because I was in love with Greece....and I had only been there 3 times in my life. I can totally understand what he is saying. It is something you feel you have to do. Every country has its own negative and positive sides. Our relation with the country we live in is not one-sided, but it's a relation of interaction and interdependence. At the end of the day we will find out what we really received and what we have given to this relation. And if we manage to truly make peace with ourselves, no matter where we decide to live, we will feel at least satisfied, if not completely happy. However is really annoying when we realize that the only reason we live in a country is nothing else but economic.

I think your videos are spot on. I am Greek and lived in Scandinavia for 20 years, after returning in 2018. I can tell you my experience. I think one goes through phases in life, and in every phase, you are looking for different things. For example, I did my PhD in a Scandinavian university and worked there for roughly 15 years after that in the IT industry. It was a great time when I was a bachelor, I enjoyed it very much and travelled quite a lot - it was a transactional lifestyle, wherein I gave my job everything and got back the reward. When I finally got married and had kids, priorities changed. Suddenly Northern Europe didn't feel right, the relationship shifted from transactional to wanting a deeper cultural connection. I did not want my kids to live far from grandparents, far from the culture I grew up in, in a cold country that advertises "quality of life" as if it was a metric you could quantify. As kids grow, they will also have the opportunity to go abroad and study as I did, but for me childhood/roots are extremely important. I never regretted my choice to come back, it was the right decision at the right time! An advice I want to give you - do not forget Venezuela. Take your kids on trips there, they are Venezuelan as much as they are Greek.

There is something very special about Greece..I felt it the first time I stepped of the Plane back in 2005, it was like "I'm Home" being of Greek Heritage and born abroad (1st Gen.) I believe its a Culture, religion, depth of history and the PHILOTIMO of the people. I have been travelling between both countries constantly since then and now, plans are afoot as i have made the decision to move permanently...God willing.. 2025 will be the year 😊.

Hey Daniel, I’m sharing your feelings because I also left Greece and came to Canada when I was 19 years old and that was ages ago! Have you heard the phrase "You can take the boy out of the farm, but not the farmer out of the boy"? It means that no matter how much someone changes their environment or circumstances, their core identity and habits remain with them. It suggests that the fundamental qualities or values ingrained in a person from their upbringing or background will always influence who they are, even if their external circumstances change. Keep enjoying your life and family. Cheers!

You appear to me as a wise analytical guy,, and with your experience, you have become humble. As an example Australia is rated as the 10 most expensive country in the world. The governments have mismanaged the country and tax the people like there is no tomorrow. Australia is no longer the lucky country. The Australian government lacks empathy and compassion towards there citizens it is so obvious in everyday life, its almost like they are doing it on purpose, run and controlled by a foreign entity. The globalists have infiltrated every sector of society, media, government, politicians, musicians, sports men and women. They perceive themselves as magicians, warlocks, witches, sorcerer's. Occultists members of the secret societies. Take care my friend.

Living in North Europe feel's like "functioning". It dosn't feel like "living". Greeks believe that if they live abroad they will have a life exactly as in Greece, only with a lot more money. Going to restorants (taverns), caffeterias seeing friends....This things don't exist there. They don't know that they will may have more money, but if they need to talk they have to give their money to a psychologist. That they will live alone. Boring.

Living in Athens is no life. I am here now and on vacation and the city still feels like it did in the 1990's, the early 2000's and the 2010's. No progress at all with public infrastructure crumbling and urban decay advancing. Athens felt so much better in 1980 when I first visited. The islands I'm visiting so far feel the same, crumbling under the weight of tourism which the infrastructure can't handle. As beautiful as they are in places, you see that few people are having good lives, the rest are merely existing.

The City By C. P. Cavafy You said: “I’ll go to another country, go to another shore, find another city better than this one. Whatever I try to do is fated to turn out wrong and my heart lies buried like something dead. How long can I let my mind moulder in this place? Wherever I turn, wherever I look, I see the black ruins of my life, here, where I’ve spent so many years, wasted them, destroyed them totally.” You won’t find a new country, won’t find another shore. This city will always pursue you. You’ll walk the same streets, grow old in the same neighborhoods, turn gray in these same houses. You’ll always end up in this city. Don’t hope for things elsewhere: there’s no ship for you, there’s no road. Now that you’ve wasted your life here, in this small corner, you’ve destroyed it everywhere in the world.

Good for you and your wonderful family ! But for us that we are Greeks ( and live in Athens) we are not so happy about living in Greece..

Maybe because you've never lived in a place where it rains all the time and people are grumpy and passive aggressive.
