Really like this format for a video, it's interesting to kind of go on a journey with you as discover the watch. And I really appreciate how you brought in your own faith in such an honest and gentle way. Also the watch looks great. I feel bad I've been kind of ghosting Royce for awhile because I've been too busy to do a review, but at the same time I keep hoping I'll get caught up because I want to check out his watch!

I’m a big GS fan, but even by GS standards this one will surely go down as an all-time classic piece (and as anyone who has seen/worn it already knows, a video/digital screen doesn’t even come close to doing it justice)

The wooden box only came with the black dial version. But great watch, and that's great that they gave you the leather strap, it's nice!

A little strange to not show a closeup of the watch face. An idea for the future.

Big fan of Horween straps with a nice taper. Highly recommend B&R Bands, they are my go to for Horween leather straps.

I think Formex is blech. I bought the Worn x Wound Essence and it just felt like a very sterile watch. No emotion, personality, or anything exciting in spite of a very bright dial and bright polished finishing. The bracelet was terrible. The price feels criminal for what you're getting.

The watch has a very nice, thin structure, and it looks better with a NATO strap. Squale is a nice brand, but I preferred Willard X from Seiko. One more thing, the quality of the videos is superb in terms of content and appearance. 

so you buy a watch and the seconds hand only runs if your doing a stopwatch?

Hi John, I came here after watching your Shunbun video. I am a Japanese watch lover living in Tokyo. I enjoyed your video very much. I too am a big GS/Seiko fan and own various watches. The first Spring Drive I ever saw was about 20 years ago that my boss owned. It was the first Spring Drive model Seiko released with an integrated bracelet. I was mesmerized by the sweeping second's hand and knew I had to own one someday. Finally, that time had come and my recent acquisition was the Shunbun. I had to wait a few months before receiving the call from the AD but as you would know, the wait was well worth it. I love the fact that you were able to leave Tokyo with a double-branded GS. There's something about having a piece of Japanese horology on your wrist, that would put a grin on my face without actually grinning. As much as I love mechanical watches I also love quartz watches, especially the excessively overengineered quartz watches from GS. In fact, my first GS purchase was a quartz watch (SBGX263). It's my go-to watch. With its insane ±10 second/year accuracy I don't have to worry about setting the time. Anyway sorry about my rambling but I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your video content and its calm presentation. Now I'm going online to see if I can find the same watch you purchased because I think it looks great. I look forward to seeing more of your videos and please come back to Japan.

I don't dig the ocean to orbit name but I appreciate the story they have. The watch looks very nice but the name holds me back.

This does look like a nice watch, but that long logo. I understand they want to get their name out, but it just makes it look overly busy. Look at Christopher Ward -- so much cleaner when they switched to a minimalist logo, instead of all the text.

I never knew that watch companies sent out pre-production models for review! Gorgeous watch. These micro-brands are just killing it with the specs.

My buddy introduced me to this brand years back and it was his go-to watch when he's out in the field shooting photography. It's practical yet sophisticated enough for professional environments. Also, love your pause on the Uniqlo shirt bit haha. Great essay.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience John, it's a cool essay as always, I enjoyed it. I'd personaly stick to white Naos but it gave perspective and re-inforced what I know I like. Sternglas is a really cool brand, you coud definitely have a solid watch game with just two of their watches. My pick would be pairing a Marus and a Naos, that's a collection on its own that can pretty much do it all. A more extravagant pairing could be their Tachymeter (which I think looks really cool ) and a Hamburg or Sedius. In both case it'd be a cost of around 600-700 euros (I'm in europe) for a solid do it all two watch collection ! Have a very good day my friend.
