How to use Postshot plugin and bring Gaussian Splattin into After Effects?
I thought I'd make this quick tutorial on how to use 3D Gaussian Splatting models created with Postshot and how to bring them out in After Effects.
And since there doesn't seem to be any concrete step-by-step documentation on this topic anywhere yet, I thought it's could be useful to go through what this postshot effect is made from and how can we use its parameters.

    There are certain undocumented requirements for the Postshot plugin to work in After Effects that I found out. The most important is that After Effects version should have the Advanced 3D renderer option which is not supported by older processors with 2 cores. An NVidia GPU should be present as well. Otherwise, you will just see a blank screen in the AE composition.

    Do you know if it currently also exports a low poly model with some baked textures (from the high poly). Things we'd want in a game engine, for instance? In blender, for instance, you would use the multires modifier to maintain low poly mesh, and the high poly mesh details will get baked to put with the low poly mesh.

    Hi Olli, do you think it'a possible to build a 360 camera rig with (3) cameras each positioned at different heights? So instead of going around the space three times, you could do only one pass-through. Or do you think the other cameras will "see" eachother in the frame and it will mess-up the splat that is generated?

    • @OlliHuttunen78
      @OlliHuttunen78 Před 18 dny

      Absolutely! I've been thinking about a similar solution. It could be implemented, for example, with three 360 cameras. When the cameras are placed exactly on top of each other, a large part of them is lost in the seam area, which inevitably occurs when the 360 image is stitched together. But the 360 image still has to be processed and disassembled afterwards, and that work has to be done with three different cameras. So even if you get a lot of coverage with one shot that way, there is still a lot of work in post-production before the images can be transferred to Gaussian Splatting training.

    • @mishamulyakaev7406
      @mishamulyakaev7406 Před 18 dny

      @@OlliHuttunen78 Thanks for your reply! Just to clarify, wouldn’t the post-production work be the same for one pass-through with three cameras vs three pass-throughs with one camera? • @takaides
      @takaides Před 14 dny

      An issue I've had with my current drones are the safety margins for obstacle avoidance are extremely large, preventing automated capture of many areas (think doorways or sparse forest). If I have to do the capture manually anyway, doing it with a 360 cam on a selfie stick is likely faster than resetting an automated drone run that stalled due to poor obstacle avoidance.

      Yes. You are correct. Luma AI can also take 360 Equirectangular footage to process. But to be exact, it will not make a 3DGS model out from it. Luma can only produce older NeRF model out from 360 material. It can turn almost any video or images into Gaussian splats, but it can't do it with 360 footage. So that option is just a holdover from Luma's earlier service. After all, It is very rare that any of these 3D services could yet train a Gaussian Splatting out from 360 images. I haven't seen one yet. But perhaps in the near future. It could be this Cupix Vista or Postshot. By Bet is on those apps.
