    Hi Ma'am, as far as I have understood we should use future tense conjugation (wala ko magtrabaho) also in past tense and it's the "wala" which makes it past.

    • @BisayangPanda
      @BisayangPanda Před 5 měsíci

      Cebuano language, like Filipino/Tagalog, doesn't have tenses. 'I did not work yesterday' is expressed as 'Wala ko nagtrabaho.' If you have heard 'wala ko magtrabaho' being used, that might be a dialect.

    • @CarabaoTravelChannel
      @CarabaoTravelChannel Před 5 měsíci

      Okay thanks. This is what I mean: Wala ka moadto sa tindahan. You did/do not go to the store. Dili ka moadto sa tindahan. You will not go to the store. So instead of saying "wala ka NIadto" it would be correct to say "wala ka MOadto".

    • @BisayangPanda
      @BisayangPanda Před 5 měsíci

      @@CarabaoTravelChannel the correct translation for "You did not go there." would be "Wala ka NIadto sa tindahan." Mo- prefix is used for an action that has not yet begun. Aside from ni-, some people also prefer to use mi-, ning-, and ming-. We will have a lesson talking about aspects and prefixes in the future that may help provide a clearer understanding on this topic. 🙂

      @@CarabaoTravelChannel Oh, I think I might've somehow misunderstood your original comment. I haven't heard of this grammar rule 'til you mentioned it; thanks for bringing it up! I'll have to dig deeper on this topic as nowadays, "wala" is accompanied by perfective affixes for negating actions in the past. That's why when we do a quick search online, for example: "wala nikaon" vs "wala mokaon", we'd see more results for the former with posts from people nowadays compared to the latter, which has more results from Bible scriptures. Personally, while I still hear very few people still use "wala" with "mo-", it's becoming quite rare nowadays though. I've also asked some people from other places like CDO, Bohol, and Cebu and they also use it with "ni-". I think it might be one of those grammar rules that are slowly being forgotten over time (like 'aduna' and some demonstrative pronouns) or kind of evolving/changing in a way. It might also be worth noting that Cebuano Grammar Notes by Bunye was published in 1971.

    📌 In Cebuano language, the presence of an object, feeling, or person is denoted by the word 'aduna.' However, 'naa' has emerged as the standard term for existence over the years, and its original sense of location has been lost. Nowadays, the word 'aduna' is still used, but it's more commonly heard or read in church, literature, or news.
