Your video has been great! I've been making canes on my regular lathe and using rasps to do spirals and thought there had to be something better. Found out about the router crafters then this video and I picked one up yesterday. It's missing a couple of the hex heads and the bushing for template but I don't need to start out. What would you recommend I do to be able to hold 1.25 round spindle at the maximum 36" length? Did you ever fabricate something like that? I saw the extension, but I need the longest length possible so I don't want to extend with a chuck and shaft. Maybe a modified spur drive somehow? Not sure how I'd get it in the 1/2 square hole.

Hey Tim thanks for asking what router bits we use Mainly we use modified spade drill bits from 1/4 inch to 1 inch ground into specific router crafter bits by grinding them into certain shapes on the grinding wheel. (See our video on this.) This is especially helpful when making hollow shapes on router crafter…. On the Sears craftsman router crafter, Roman ogees mostly modified and unmodified as well We also use 3/8 inch & 1/2 inch double flute straight bits, chamfer bits, 5/16 inch radius round nose bits Thanks again and have fun with your woodworking adventures Tim! Hello Michael, Thanks for the response, We bought our Sears craftsman router crafter from a very cool retired guy who was downsizing his shop as well! I think he bought it new in the mid 70’s and used it but took great care of it and even made a simple bench for it. Yes, those Legacy Ornamental Mills are super excellent woodworking machines on another level than the router crafters from Sears! It’s amazing the culture around the Legacy mills. You should find some buyers for both machines easily, and quickly! Everything is CNC nowadays so it’s great to keep these “vintage” machines around to show the youth that before computers everybody used a slide rule and drafting board not CAD! It’s nice to meet people like you who are knowledgeable about the topic. Take care and hope your 2023 goes very well Sir! Sincerely, All @ A1CFS
