There is a point she is missing in particular. George never said there is no value in relationships, and this fact underscores everything he says: he values genuine relationships, and does not let the idea of marriage control him or his expectations for himself. I love the idea of marriage, but there has to be no strings attached save for what the two parties negotiate to and agree to themselves, nothing legally binding, and it can be ripped up at any point without anyone to officiate. The reason marriages are all failing is because people are idiots who latch into whoever will let them, realise their value and type later in life, experiences and values change, they stop communicating and get resentful, etc. America is a culture of entitled narcissists that expect things to go the way they want them to without feeling they need to even ask or appreciate the struggles to get them, because "they should just know" or "I should not have to X to get Y and Z" which is peak entitlement, not a jab at someone else's ignorance, but their owns expectations and lack of communication betraying them. Trust me, if you ever have to say "should" in any context outside of berating the standard of "what should be", please stop, because people who do not meet your expectations is not their failing, it's *your* problem. The problem was having that expectation, not clearly communicating it as a boundary, and being dissapointed when they inevitably miss the mark because they could not possibly know.
