    I suggest that the topic for Kishore Mahbubani's next book be on "Global South". The West is completely clueless on "global south". Kishore Mahbubani can help the West to understand global south and how not to "lose" to China in global south. Kishore Mahbubani is qualified to write such a book as he served in UN for a decade. UN is mostly full of global south countries.

    Having been to China innumerable times over the last 40 years, I find that Mahbubani analysis and observations are "spot on" free of malicious propaganda and anti-China political claptrap. Both American style Democracy and Chinese Socialism under the leadership of the CPC have positive and negative aspects but suit their respective populations. I personally prefer Democracy; however, I cannot deny the fact the CPC has been responsible for delivering 700,000,000 Chinese citizens out of poverty over 40 years, a feat to date that has never been accomplished by any other country in recorded history. China has 5000 year history that continues to evolve and change. The last 100 years has just been a second. Thank-you Kishore for you constructive comments and discourse.

  • @robertcox14
    @robertcox14 Před dnem

    August 15 is when India celebrates its independence from the British Empire, in 1947. The collapse of Britain was completed by USA making large loan to Britain, after WWII, when Britain had been smashed with 2 world wars, losing so many "active men" and now being completely drained of any "Great Power" anywhere. I have noticed "Imperialism" for a few years, having read Chris Hedges several books on USA "current history." We know that USA is a bit "rabid" about its independence and the Domination Theory of itself as a Great Power. I disagreed with Graham Allison's "Thucydides Trap" that worshiped the idea of Big Nations, and I felt angry about simply "assuming" that countries with land mass and large population are "automatically" superior to those poor suckers in the "Lesser States." I knew that the system of "oligarchs" could create a SMALL elite that would be running a LARGE country where the Majority were serfs and that the elites enriched themselves with the control of "resource expansion" benefitting JUST the Center of the Empire. Therefore I "dismissed" Great Powers as mere "nuisances" that impoverished the lesser states with various unfortunate Domination by economics and military means. Just look first at how Britain "impoverished" India by way of resource extraction, and see how India "disrupted" the Imperial Wealth Machine by ending its "colonization." As a Canadian, I felt Canada had "escaped" from the original extractive monopoly of Britain, and achieved some level of "representative governance," but what we have is a spectrum of independence that would be much improved with more nations being more independent and NOT being controlled by elites ravishing resources. No more Empires, Please!

    Hey, U.S. illegally invaded Iraq in 2003 and killed one million Iraqis and Israel is conducting genocide in Gaza, Singapore did not sanction those two countries, how come Singapore sanctioned Russia over Ukraine invasion? Doesn't make sense to me. NATO attacked Yugoslavia in 1999 saying they were trying to block genocide in Kosovo and even dismembered Kosovo from Yugoslavia. And Singapore recognised Kosovo in 2016 during the China/Singapore hoo ha in HK. So Russia said that they attacked Ukraine in order to block genocide in Donbass, same pretext as NATO used in Yugoslavia in 1999. So when it comes to NATO, Singapore recognised Kosovo, while Russia/Ukraine/Donbass, Singapore sanctioned Russia. What kind of nonsense is this? It's all drivel.

    Chinese political influence and power is so weak in Singapore that I think Bilahari Kausiksn is used to disregarding views of chinese Singaporeans. That is why he is so brazen and open in his Sinophobic remarks. He doesn't care about offending chinese Singaporeans at all. Chinese power and influence in Singapore is so weak and pathetic to the point that the languages and mother tongues of chinese are being wiped out. Kishore and Bilahari are very happy with PAP rule, since they prospered under it. PAP has been controlled by minority groups like peranakans (Lee Kuan Yew, Lee Hsien Loong,, Goh Keng Swee are all peranakans) and chinese influence is very limited.

    While I agree with most of what Kishore said in this interview, I wonder what bearing China's 2000-year history has in the ongoing rivalry between the US and China. If the point is simply that they've been around for 2000 years and will still be around in the next 2000; in the context of supremacy for influence, technology and leadership, 2000-year history or not is, to me, not critical. What China lacks is good PR. Image is everything in today's Tik Tok world - sadly. As for his point regarding the West's rise only in the last 200 years, the pertinent consideration here is how did they do it? Colonisation in one form or another? To me, all the big proclamations of a rule-based order or world is hogwash by the West. The real issue for them is that many Asian and African countries have become too sophisticated and actually operate far better than the West in the rule-based order created by the West. We've beaten them at their own "game", so to speak, and that's perhaps why there's been so much criticism by the West of the very institutions they installed post-WW2.

    Mr Mahbubani attacks his Stanford colleague for chiding him in ignoring the plight of 70 million Chinese by Mao and the Communist Party of China.He dodges the question and engages in a personal attack - unworthy of someone who claims to be an intellectual interlocutor. I have observed that the more loudly an individual shows his concern or sympathy for the "people" the more contempt he has for them - to the extent of sacrificing their lives for personal glory. Those 70 million will one day be free to speak, aa are E. European countries who were ruled by the USSR, They will bear witness not only to those who slaughtered them but also their apologists. Kindly repeat this interview when that day arrives. As for Iraq, how was this a disaster? It destroyed Arab Nationalism - a menace that had destroyed tens of millions of Arabs. This was a gift from the West to helpless Arabs. The largest economies did not invent check on government power. There are flaws and there are fatal flaws. Democracies continues to correct its own flaws. Totalitarian governments are not able to correct their flaws.

    I hope that the interviewer can bring on Bilahari next and ask him why he is so Sinophobic, anti China and anti chinese. Did he get bullied by chinese people in school? George Yeo doesn't go around the world day in day out mouthing off on India and Modi, but Bilahari will day in day out mouth off on China and Xi Jinping, mouthing off all sorts of anti China, anti chinese diatribe. It's clear he has a lot of hatred towards chinese. He is also very eager to fight China in south China sea. Is he suffering from mental illness? China screwed Singapore in HK in 2016 after Singapore acted as U.S. proxy in ASEAN. What is Bilahari's take on the issue? Also ask him why he is not afraid of offending Singaporean chinese by so openly attacking China in media? Again, no chinese Singaporean is attacking India and Modi openly in media. We chinese Singaporeans have so many question on Bilahari. Is he taking money from CIA? Why is he mouthing off pro U.S., anti China propaganda? Money? What are Bilahari's views on India? I myself support India, I support Modi, I support BJP. I want Indian GDP to be no.3 as soon as possible. Be as blunt as possible. We are all tired of the political BS, lol. If Bilahari is really hardcore Sinophobe, he should own it like a man. Don't try to hide it. If that is the case, he is unfit to be Singapore diplomat, because Singapore chinese won't support an anti China foreign policy. This is not America, this is not India, this is Singapore. You know, when I look at Bilahari, he looks like a person with a screw loose. Something is seriously wrong with that guy. My theory is that when he was a small boy, some chinese bullied him and hit him on the head so hard that years later he decided to push anti China policy in Singapore foreign policy due to his irrational hatred of chinese.
