  • Inconvenient Questions (IQ) is committed to fostering deeper understanding, empathy, and involvement through meaningful informed conversations across boundaries.
On 5 October 2022, we hosted a discussion on the topic '377A - Agree and Disagree?' We were joined by a diverse group of panellists and youths from Singapore. It was a robust, honest and informed discussion about the repeal of Section 377A and the proposed Constitutional amendment. The panellists, youth representatives and audience members shared insightful perspectives and questions. It was honest and, at times, contentious, yet civil. Many described it as a breakthrough event because we demonstrated that we can have a robust, honest discussion of a sensitive subject without being disrespectful or resorting to mudslinging.

When someone is mean or unkind (discriminatory) against LGBT people, morally correct compassionate people will tend to distance themselves from such unkindness. Such unkind (discriminatory) views should rightly be criticised because discrimination is wrong and it hurts people. It's not "discrimination against the bully" to criticise bullying. It would therefore be intellectually dishonest for such an unkind (discriminatory) person, who attacks LGBT people, to claim they "experience discrimination by being excluded". Simply put, those showing unkind behaviour are rightly being criticised because their views hurt others.
Using the phrase "LGBT ideology" is as ridiculous as trying to use "red head ideology" or "left-handed ideology". It tries to reduce a person and their identity to an "idea", it tries to hide the fact that such comments attack LGBT people for who they are, and it is wrong to try to do that. There are LGBT people and they exist. Such phrasing belittles others, it dehumanises and demonises them. The phrase "LGBT ideology" is extremely insulting, and it is discriminatory. It is anti-LGBT rhetoric, it causes hurt against others and causes suicide risk. It is utterly wrong.
That's why Chang Tou Chen's claims about "being discriminated against" are incorrect.

Chang Tou Chen is just part of a group of people who for many years have discriminated a certain group of people using certain religious ideologies that have zero basis, and now when faced with some of their discriminatory practices being delegalised, particularly for the 377A case, suddenly want to paint themselves as a victim when they kind of feel their points of view are perhaps not 'popular' anymore today, or they suddenly say "I don't agree for discriminating LGBTQ people" when such statement goes against what their religion preaches to them anyway, for what i believe is a front to mask the discriminatory practices and wrongs done by their organisations over the decades.
