    This is by far the best video I have found on setting up base shakers/tactile transducers. No one seems to mention that these things need to be tuned, especially if running from the LFA on your receiver. So, thank you for putting this together! I am hitting the exact problem you are describing. System fully tuned and timed using Audyssey One (A1 EVO) (it's amazing, by the way Google it if you have not heard it ) on my Marantz SR6014 receiver. I currently have two independent subwoofer outputs, each connected to its own subwoofer. I recently purchased four Dayton Audio BST-300EX. One for my chair, and three for the couch, with an individual amplifier for each shaker. So, power is not my problem. When I run the sub output from my headphone amplifier into the shaker’s amplifiers, I get amazing power. Can barely turn it past three. When I run the LFE out from my receiver, using the Audyssey One corrected LFE corrected output, virtually zero sound unless I crank the shaker amplifiers about three quarters of the way up. I do have two miniDSP 2 x 4 HDs. Sounds like what you are saying is I could split the LFE output from the sub 2 output, and run one straight to the subwoofer, and run the other into one of the mini DSPs. Then I can boost the gain and adjust the EQ to add back whatever Audyssey removed from the receiver's LFE’s output? Is that possible? I watched another video where I downloaded an app for my android phone, called Accelerometer. I can place in my actual sitting position and measure the variance in the vibration in 5 Hz increments from 5Hz up to about 60 Hz, where I would cross over. I can do this just using simple test-tone videos on CZcams. So, basically use the accelerometer instead of a microphone to get the measurements to boost or subtract certain frequencies. Would this work? Anyone else have any input? All input appreciated. This has been making my head ache for a month now! Either way, I hope you come out with that new video soon! Sorry to be so verbose. Typed this too fast!

    I like the class D Crown amps because they are super-efficient, and they drive sub woofers extremely well. I have a Crown XLS 2502 driving a set of Skar DDX15-D2 sub woofers. Even though the XLS series of Crown pro amps have RCAs in, using them only gives about 60% of the rated power. The sensitivity adjustment does help, but if one needs to run the Crown at full power from RCA cables as I did, I had to use an ART Cleanbox Pro. The Art Cleanbox Pro is a converter that makes home sound equipment’s connections compatible with pro-equipment. I am also am using a Crown XLS 1002 as a mono block to drive another 500-watt sub. But in this case, the cleanbox is not needed, as 60% of 1100 watts is plenty enough power. The cleanbox is also not needed for any of these XLS amps to drive 98% of all the theater speakers out there.

    I've listened to Eric Clapton: The Lady in the Balcony, Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague, Roger Waters: The Wall on my Dolby Atmos system. Each was a great improvement over stereo or 5.1/7.1 soundtracks. My favorite is Hans Zimmer's album which features movie soundtracks. I use it as a demo.

    This is quite interesting and helpful. However, I have a weird issue with Dirac BC MultiSub on my Onkyo RZ70... Dirac does the measurements just fine, shows the curves just fine and transfers just fine. However, the results sounded off to me, so I checked with REW and found, that the Subs were set far too high. In fact, Onkyo shows in the "Levels" menu, that you should lower the Sub level by 4.5db if you are using two subs. After doing that, the Bass was just right. This feels like a Bug, and I have no way of knowing whether it is Dirac or Onkyo that is at fault, but that's what I consistently found on my system.

    • @hifihometheater
      @hifihometheater Před 2 měsíci

      Im not familiar with that Onkyo but it is normal practice to subtract 3db for each additional sub so that the combined subwoofer spl is 75db. Multisub should be doing that so Im not sure. Sounds like it could be a bug.

    If you’re looking for ideas 😃. A good walk through setting up arc genesis would be appreciated. One thing I’m struggling with currently is subwoofer setup using arc genesis. I move the subs around and take measurements separately. But when run together will they cause dropouts not seen in the independent measurement? Also, where do you put your microphone while running genesis. If you use the X as described on Anthems website two of the microphone location are in the general vicinity of your keester.

    • @ashcountach1684
      @ashcountach1684 Před 2 měsíci

      Using the X method. 1st measurement at MLP ear level. 2nd/3rd measurements in front of your 1st measurement no more than 2 feet away and 6 inches below your 1st measurement. 4th/5th behind your 1st Measurement no more than 2 feet behind and 6 inches above your 1st measurement. I usually do 1 foot instead of two but you have to make sure you are moving your mic between measurements as ARC is measuring your room not your speakers so it needs information around your MLP.

      I do the same thing but usually alternate the higher and lower positions; 2 lower, 3 higher, 4 lower, 5 higher. My thought is that its more of a three dimensional average? Not sure if it makes a big difference. I also have a couch so no reclining position to deal with where the normal X pattern probably makes more sense.

    Enjoyed the tour. I’ve got 4 theater seats. Thinking I would enjoy a large sofa or theater seats with a lower back. Had to put my back speakers a little higher than desired. Now I’m wondering if I need atmos speakers. Current configuration I feel like I’m in a bubble and I get proper sound effects over my head. When I say proper I’m referring to helicopters and jets and such. I’m sure it’s not as accurate though.

      @@hifihometheater Thanks. Ye I actually connected the receiver directly to a PC's graphics card with hdmi and a "dummy plug hdmi" (Chromecast Ultra without power works) so PC thinks it's a 30 or 60hz monitor. Without this trick some or all receivers won't show up at windows. It's a "trick" I found out with older receiver to bypass the limited 60hz problems since PCs main monitor runs with 120hz/144hz. Not sure if it is still needed with Denon X3800H since it has 4k/120hz passthrough! But Im not a fan of passthrough since you get more lag to the primary 120hz monitor/tv and lose the low watt TV-Audio as an audio source then. (Also CZcams won't work with dolby atmos in windows). A real monitor connected to EARC Monitor 1 then worked for showing Denon Setup / OSD. 😅 Maybe some Gamer got a solution now :D

    Increasing sub gain doesn’t change phase relationships, but you make a good point about shifting the xover frequency. There is a problem with boosting bass with the target curve in Dirac, because it rolls off the boost at the left curtain, so your subsonic gets left behind (assuming you have subsonic capable subs.) Another big issue with boosting sub gain is that if you use inconsistent xover frequencies, you will end up with a really inconsistent response.

    • @hifihometheater
      @hifihometheater Před 2 měsíci

      The point I was trying to make, with ARC Genesis anyway, is it messes up what the phase alignment process does since everything it did was for where the crossover was before the sub level was boosted.

    Great video. Does it matter if use just 1 input on MiniDSP for couple subs and transducers or need to use both?

    • @hifihometheater
      @hifihometheater Před 2 měsíci

      That depends on your setup; If your AVR/Processor can provide a separate, unEQed LFE signal and you still want to use its room correction on your subs, you would want to use both inputs. If you cannot get a separate clean LFE signal, you would use jut one input since youll need to EQ it with the MiniDSP anyway. You would also only need one input if you are doing all the subwoofer EQ in the MiniDSP and not using room correction and/or minimizing its impact on the LFE channel.

    Nice job on the video. I just purchased the carpet spikes and will try it. Regarding EQ I agree you must consider the already established EQ done to the subwoofers along with the frequency response of the shaker/transducer. In addition the EQ must take into consideration the mounting configuration and resonance of the couch/seat and transducer as a whole unit. I have found success with using REW to check the combined frequency response on the seat and taking that EQ adjustments to the mini dsp output for the shakers. Then I run step frequency checks using the “butt meter” with the subs on for final frequency dsp confirmation/adjustment and output checks. This final check may require some changes to the EQ and shaker volume level.
