    Like you I am also planning a year ish long trip to the Bahamas exumas but just can’t seem to decide between trawler or sailboat. I’ve opened both sailboats and 1 trawler and the 39 ft trawler definitely felt a bit more unsafe in nasty weather than the sailboat but the room and the view What made you all decide on a trawler ?

    • @pbaker777
      @pbaker777 Před rokem

      Decided on a trawler because it was more comfortable and easier than sail boat. There is more space on a trawler. We didn't really sail in rough seas but you're right in rough weather the trawler rocks like crazy. My one piece of advice is to get a GOOD dinghy with an outboard. We should have had a davit installed in the trawler, it would have made the trip fantastic. We just had a cheap dinghy and light cheap outboard - big mistake

    I know I'm a few years behind but how did you decide between single vs double diesel trawler especially when traveling internationally? I love single engine, be concerned however when leaving good tow service range. thoughts?

    • @pbaker777
      @pbaker777 Před rokem

      single diesel was cheaper. we sailed the Bahamas out of tow range for 6 months. only issue I had was prop bolts sheared and fell out so had no power. difficult to get parts in the Bahamas, even in Bimini. for example I would have to get bolts shipped in. I didn't, I had 2 bolts that had fallen out and I put back on, the 2 sheared bolts I used a slightly smaller bolt. biggest advice I could give is get a davit and a decent dinghy and outboard. we missed out so much by going cheap. we never felt comfortable with our dinghy.

    Hello, I'm 60 years old and now retired and thinking about living the dream of going off in a trawler. My thoughts are to cruise the east coast, possibly the great loop and of course the Bahamas. I see you have no new videos. Are you still living aboard? If so, do you still enjoy it? What would you do differently? What do you think of the Mainship 34? I am a solo sailor so to speak and want to keep the boat I purchase as small and manageable as possible. I love the galley up edition that you have first I"ve seen that. Would really love to hear back from you. Thanks, Bill

    • @pbaker777
      @pbaker777 Před 3 lety

      Hi Bill, we spent 5 months going around the Bahamas. We set off the day after I retired. Our boat is now for sale in Florida. We have spent the last year living in Spain. We are so glad we did it, what an experience! Things I would do differently. 1 we would have a better dinghy and more reliable outboard - especially for the Bahamas, well worth spending a lot of money on that. 2 we would have installed a davit on the back of the boat to get dinghy on and off - it was very heavy when we only had a small dinghy and outboard.

    • @pbaker777
      @pbaker777 Před 3 lety

      We have a single Yanmar engine. Even with 2 people can be very difficult to manoeuvre in and out of marinas especially on a windy day. But I would say go for it! You will meet great people and have so many adventures and memories. As for the Mainship 34, we thought that would be a little small for us two. The 39 seemed a nice size and layout. Good luck! Would love to hear how you get on! Paul

      Hi. La envia area is very nice and picturesque. But there is not a lot to do. There is a golf course that a lot of people do not like because it is very hilly. The drive from La Envia to the nice restaurants and bars on the main beach is closer to 20 minutes. It is nice to live in the area where all the tapas bars and action is. It's nice to walk out and see these things. After a few times driving for 20 minutes it will become laborious. We have friends that were in La Envia but moved out to here in the urbanisation area. Good luck.

    Tourist guides and chauffeurs who deal with tourists can perform a valuable service to promote tourist industry in Sri Lanka. They act as the link between the guest and the locals as well as the locations. They will be able to educate local vendors and they exchange their views and experience too. As such the authorities concerned need to pay much attention on working with tourist guides and the supporting services for the success of the industry.
