I'm in Mexico RIGHT NOW, with my vehicle. I had to get a temporary import permit. (TIP). My car does not have to meet Mexico's requirements. Ea. Mexico requires plates in front AND back, but my state doesn't require that, so I can drive without a front plate. I also can drive with my USA drivers license. I DO however have to buy Mexican Insurance, but only because My US insurance won't cover me in Mexico. It's the same down here, some cops don't understand, but eventually they get schooled and let you go on your way.

Oh my God! That state trooper did not know anything, and he was out of his league regarding this topic! Also, the driver was very cooperative and provided each document as requested, yet the trooper started giving him a hard time! The driver did a great job, but the trooper was ignorant.
