No one really cares unless it obvious your using your home as a auto repair "business" or if you are annoying your neighbors with noise (air tools, etc.) or an unsightly mess. The police simply don't have the resources or interest to enforce this if you are working occasionally on your own car and not being a -nooses-. Don't work on you car in the street, keep a low profile, keep you property clean, nice looking, no one is going to bother you. The law was written like it was to "bust" people who are a real problem, otherwise a lot of people would and could be making money skirting a dozen laws that real shops have tp follow as a legitimate business. THIS is what law was created for, not some dude replacing his starter or occasional repairs. Just keep a low profile, odds are you will be fine. Understand the law came about because some people were trying to run an auto repair business in their driveway and or were just making a mess, being a nooses. It 'a good law, it was necessary and not targeting people who are being responsible. Enough of "This is America" crap, grow up be an adult. Your property value is going to be crap if someone can open a renegade auto shop next door to you. So Hemifam, think it's great to have this for a small business do you? You are ignorant as fork, running an auto repair shop is expensive, you just can't pore used oils, etc. down the drain and customers have rights, many , many regulations that protract people and the environment. I would say if you have a Garage on the side of your home and in the back area of your home would be Kool.. Buy growing up in California.. we had a person who lived down the street and always had cars all over he's yard.. And always had cars needing to be fixed for weeks on end.. The same cars would sit for weeks.. I say if your have a side hassle a car sitting at your home to be worked on should be complete with in a couple day or 1 week and gone.. If your garage is in your back yard its fine to keep the gate closed and no one see them from the street..
