Why did i get fingerprint marks on my chairs even though I used clear wax and how do I get rid of them?
There could be a variety of reasons. You may have too much wax/too thick of a layer. You can take wax off by taking mineral spirits and a rag and wiping with it. That will help you get back to the paint layer (but won’t damage the paint) and you can re-wax if needed with a thinner layer. Other possible situation is that the wax simply isn’t cured yet. Depending on temps, how thick it is and what color it is waxed over it could easily take a month to cure. Whether it is because of time or thickness once wax is cured it really doesn’t typically show finger prints (worse on dark colors though). Hope this helps ❤️
Thanks for posting, cost effective and it looks great!!!
Thank you!
Exactly what I need to do in my period kitchen. The new light switches are a bit too modern... Thank you!
Happy to help and inspire ❤️❤️
This looks awesome! Love the faux pole wrap that you created 😍👏🤩
Thank you so very much!!
I'm glad to see you posting more videos. I found your site a few months ago looking for information on milk paint, I had never heard of chalk paint. I have watched all or nearly all of your videos. They are very informative and educational.
Thank you very much! I love both milk and chalk paint! Both have a place in the decorative painting world and diy world, depending on the finish you want to achieve. And yes, over the years, this channel has been all sorts of things and types of videos, just as life, it ebbs and flows. Hopefully I will be able to find some time to sneak away and paint some pieces again, and make videos while doing it. ❤️❤️❤️
My kitchen has one odd faux red brick wall, probably hiding some kind of past damage, so i just painted it white along with the other walls and it actually looked good. It made it a point of interest as i put open shelving there. I never thought of chalk paint but it's a great solution to fix that clashing tile.
I love the texture of painted brick (real or fake)! I bet it does look great with shelves on it ❤️❤️❤️
I can't think of anything plesant I can say about this vandalism. Bricks were maintenance free and nice enough looking...
Very nice. I am actually getting ready to paint my cabinets in the same color. Annie Sloan has a great lacquer sealer/finish that you don't have to sand in between. Looks great! Thanks!
Thank you! Yes it does :) I have used it many times over the years. When this video was made they didn’t have a gloss finish, just the matte. Which I love but not what my client wanted.
How many bottles did it take?
I am sorry, I do not remember. This video is over 5 years old.
thank you
Happy to help ❤️
Thanks so much for this video! I need to visit Lowes or Menards and pick up the spray paints I need and redo a bunch of doorknobs this summer!❤
You are very welcome! Sounds like a perfect summer project ❤️❤️
Thanks so much!!! Your video very helpful!!!
You are very welcome! Happy to help ❤️❤️
I am wondering about using diluted black spit over that orange oak chairs and table top. I would have to have to sand the chairs all the way down. Do you think I could spray shellac on it to give the wood something for the spit to hold on to???
Honestly I haven’t played around with it enough to give you an answer. I would not think that would work, but heck, try it on a scrap piece of wood or the underside of the chair first and see what it does 🤷♀️ good luck with them! ❤️
Thanks for the great instructional video, I can’t wait to get started! Do you have a link to the Annie Sloan paint you reference that you used instead of primer? Is there a reason to use chalk paint instead of primer as your first coat? Will you be bringing you blog back online, looks like it’s down right now :(
Hello! I hope this video has helped! As for Annie Sloan paint, I would suggest to check out their website (www.anniesloan.com/) and see if you have a Stockist near by. Most of the stores are trained very well in paint and it’s fun to see it all in person. But the reason I chose it in this project was to be able to paint without sanding. And technically you can do that with the other primer I showed, and I have done that too, I just love Annie Sloan paints. If you do use a traditional primer make sure you use a no sand/high adhesion one like Zinner 123. As for the blog, I honestly don’t know. I am working on redesigning it all, but not sure what will stay or not. But it helps to know you noticed ❤️
Hello, I love your work. What was the primer called again?
Thank you! You could use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint of Zinnzer bulls eye 123.
Does this product comes in different colors?
Excellent idea for spraying painting my baseboards 👍🏾
Thanks! It’s smelly but so much faster!
Love this idea and will remember the product for bother uses instead of applying to a wall. Unfortunately, I have textured walls. ☹️
Thanks! Yes, unfortunately I don’t think it is suppose to stick well to textured walls. BUT could always be fun for an accent piece of furniture, framed art, or door :)
Watching this video for the first time as of May 2024. You did a wonderful job and it looks beautiful, but the process involves too steps for me personally! Being this is 2024, I am hoping there is another process with much fewer steps on CZcams. ❤😊
Thank you so much! It certainly is a big process and not one of my favorites! I don’t know of another method, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t :) you could also check into surfprepsanding.com/ get one of their formable sanders and go the traditional route. If I were to do this kitchen again, I would consider that route.
Nope
I love your table !!!
Thank you! My Dad built it! ❤️
i love this
Thank you
Do you not buff it when dry?
You can if you want, but you don’t have to
I learned so so much from your videos . I did a marathon of your videos thank you
Thank you! So happy that I could help spread some info ❤️
Can you use polycrylic to seal?
Yes, instead of the wax you can. :)
terrific - but not sure how to keep window from being painted shut
The spray paint is so much thinner that it hasn’t happened in my experience. I do try to do very light thin coats though and avoid more than one or two thin coats in the track areas.
What a great idea to use a lazy susan!
Thank you ❤️
You just earned yourself a subscriber! Thanks!
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Great video. However if you just wanted to stay with do first coat. Would that work as well.
Hey! Thank you! Yes, you could do only one layer of color, but you would still need to topcoat it with at least one layer of a top coat too
Thanks girl, you are totally the bomb!
❤️❤️❤️ glad to help
Hey Beautiful! I just purchased a Marsh Hoosier Cabinet. It's in decent condition but needs to be prepped and painted ... HOPEFULLY in chalk paint. Would love to see you highlight a hoosier project! Thanks for you/your tutorials!
Hello! Thank you for your kind words! Chalk paint is perfect for that type of project! I will put it on my list and I am sure you will do great! For instant inspiration I would suggest checking on Pinterest. I have tons of boards but you may possibly find some inspiration in this one ❤️ pin.it/62z8S3ynr
Great video!! I have watched many and this was by far the best. Thank you!!
Thank you very much!!
I’ve painted and waxed a chair and now I don’t like the color. How do I go over the chair to get the wax off and re-paint it? Ty.
You can paint Annie Sloan paint over Annie Sloan wax. I like to try to take off as much of the wax as possible, or let it cure for a couple weeks. If you would like to take off any excess wax, use mineral spirits and wipe it off. Then paint.
Hey there, may I ask what are the measurements of your table?
Hey! I believe it is roughly 4ft x 3ft.
Tip: Actually, if you place some masking tape over the area you want to remain a paint trim, then just apply the glue over the material, "it is far easier to cut on material that's stuff. And just pull off tape with material. Understand?
This video is a god send. I am actually excited to paint my trim now. thank you!
So happy to have helped ❤️❤️❤️
Awesome!
Thank you!
When using two colours to distress, do you need one or two coats of the second colour?
Hello! It all depends on what the two colors are, and what look you are looking for. Sometimes you can get away with one, sometimes not.
I did the Paintable wallpaper!! .my tip is DONT TRIM YOUR PAPER UNTIL ITS DRY!! OR risk ripping the paper!!
Very good tip :)
yup.certified top tier hack. thanks!
Thank you!
I thank you so much and yes you helped me too know what to do now! Also I appreciate how prompt you were commenting one! Have a blessed day!
Commenting to me
No problem at all! Best of luck with your project ❤️
I have a coffee table thst i used blue chalk paint. I used lacquer to seal the paint but soon a yellow color started coming through. It may have had an oil based paint originally. Now I want to use another color on my table. Should I use a stain blocker before I paint on the new color to take care of the yellow that previously came through the blue color that I first painted it with? What kind of stain blocker would you suggest? Thank you so much!
Hello! That does sound exactly like the tannins or stains coming through. Sometimes lacquer itself can pull them through the paint. Although the layer of lacquer may stop it from happening again. So you may be fine to paint again or you could put a layer of shellac on or a layer of stain blocking primer. I like kilz or bulls eye 123. Hope that helps :)
Very helpful
Thank you!
Love this! Can’t wait to do mine
Thank you ❤️
Thanks! I’ve been searching for a good trim and everyone has been using round trim and I like this one the best. Thanks so much!!
Glad to help! Thanks :)
Dude...
