    I choose my old Clydesdale Diesel, the smartest, most patient, calm horse I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was like riding a sofa. Everyone said the neighbour was nuts for giving a draft horse to a ten year old in place of a riding pony, but be damned if big D didn’t come up and lay down in front of me every time I wanted to wander through the pastures. He didn’t mind, I was a feather on his back and gave unlimited apples, curries and scritches. His show yoke and harness weighed more than me. Rest in peace Big D, you kept me safe from the less than gentle wildlife, changed your gait and direction anytime I came close to losing my balance, and were the greatest babysitter a girl could have ever hoped for. ❤️

      As a majority yes 👍🏼 I think comparing most mule to most horses in tough terrain the mules would be more sure footed overall. There are definitely exceptions of course.

    • @MTN_BUILT
      @MTN_BUILT Před 11 hodinami

      Here in Idaho the land we hunt/hike/ride on is all public land so it’s managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and National Forest Service. Rarely, we will hunt on what’s called “Access Yes” property, which is privately owned but they open it up to the public to use for different activities. Usually you have to sign in when you enter the land. We haven’t ever taken anything on access yes land, it usually seems like there isn’t much there. ☺️

  • @chippyhacky
    @chippyhacky Před 22 hodinami

    That halter is a fine halter but for a finished mule, not a mule in training. The lead rope connects on the ring on the left side, by the nose band, so when you pull it tightens around their nose and when they step up the pressure comes off. When you tie up, you put your bull snap on both the side ring and the ring you have it on in the video. Try a halter with a chain all the way around the nose band, that will learn her quick to keep slack in that lead and you won’t have to drag her, she’ll stay right on that hip of the lead animal. But, this is CZcams and you weren’t looking for advice! Good luck! We need more muleskinners.

    • @MTN_BUILT
      @MTN_BUILT Před 22 hodinami

      @@chippyhacky thanks! We aren’t big fans of chains, we usually have them in rope halters. • @cattymajiv

      @chippyhacky I donno if you'll see this, but I want to thank you very much for that info! I can't really label and save your comment, but I sure wish I could! It's extremely valuable info! All I can do is to do my best to remember the general principle of it, with the pressure and release behind it, and try later on (MUCH later on) to figure out how to duplicate the general principle, without actually hurting my horse or mule. Please never hesitate to give helpful info! People who don't need it can just disregard it. But good detailed info is very hard to find, and even some of the online courses you buy are sadly lacking in detail. They use too much jargon and give too little detail. So your info was wonderful and I loved it! If you are not now teaching people how to train, I really hope you will start. Again, thank you very much!

      And as far as the tools you use, they are only as severe as you make them. If you have good hands and timing, then that chain isn’t a big deal. Way cheaper to let Mother Nature feed your meat source than raising animals. But we haven’t mastered hunting yet so we raise chickens and pigs. 😄

      Haha well that maybe could be argued by the time you buy the gear, weapon, fuel and food to be out there 😂😂 it is nice to have a variety! I’ve raised meat chickens and pigs in the past and there is something fulfilling about that as well ☺️👍🏼 plus you can’t make bacon off of elk, at least not anything that’s as good as pork bacon haha! It is very enjoyable to be up in the mountains and when it all comes together there is no other feeling like it!

      He was kind of just having an off day 😂 sometimes he is that way. Those little creeks are hard for them. They would rather just leap over, and I was having him walk through since we were leading cedar. Lol he wanted to just leap and wasn’t so sure about stepping into it. Equines don’t have good depth perception so they can’t tell if it’s a deep hole or not. So yes he was “feeling it out” 😂😂

      @@kraymississippi4388 I think they definitely find comfort in a process! The little red one is still touchy about the saddle (pad) so I’m waiting for her to make a change in her emotions (in this case she stopped moving her feet) and then I take the pad off to take away the pressure and as if to say “good job, that’s what we want, for you to just stand calmly” I give her a minute to think and then go again and it doesn’t take them long to connect that together and stand calmly ☺️👍🏼
