Thank you! We’re enjoying the process of learning about it and setting it up! Now we just need to see how well it works, and make adjustments as necessary 😊 Has it worked well for you guys?
It's looking good guys keep it up don't forget to relax a little too. I'd love to see you prepare a meal or favorite recipe you'd like to share thanks kray
Thank you! I tried it on purpose… I don’t like to come in too strong saying “our way is the best!” But I thought it was funny to say that we polled the mules and they like it lol
I think I remember seeing when y’all moved in you seeded the lot, what seed did you use? Do you know what was already growing? Next spring I’ve got to try to convert a corn crop to pasture
You’re spot on! We seeded a lot of our pasture last fall, and we used a horse pasture mix from Great Basin Seed. It came up really well and they say it’s designed to have different grasses growing at different stages. Of the year. But I’m not good enough at plant identification to know which species of grass started first. We’re really liking it so far. Good luck with your seeding project this year! 😊
Are you measuring the height of the grass you’re rotating from on day five to see how much growth you’re getting before you rotate back to that pasture?
Yes! It’s really fun to watch it grow (simple things for a simple person) they’re about to go back into the first pasture they grazed and it grew from about two inches to about six inches in the short spots- they don’t graze it very evenly 😕
@@MTN_BUILT Then we are both simple minded! I can’t help myself when it comes to things like this. My brother shared a saying with me when I was in high school that I use to this day, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” I think it’s very sage advice. Keep up the great work and keep those videos coming. I hope Alyssa made it home safely.
@@nmelkhunter1 that’s a great quote! It makes a lot of sense 😊 And thank you! Alyssa did make it home and she’s actually editing a full length video about setting up our rotational grazing system right now. Hopefully we’ll be ready to release it tomorrow 😊 I’ve thought about your Oryx hunt a few times lately… I bet the anticipation is starting to build. I’m excited for you guys!
@@MTN_BUILTYes, the anticipation is building. I have the seven mag ready to go and the tripod I use for plains hunts is also ready to go. Now I just need to make sure I’m ready to hopefully take care of meat in hot weather.
@@nmelkhunter1 awesome! I bet that’s a big concern down in that country. I’ve heard the meat is amazing! 😊 We even need to be quick about processing antelope meat during our archery season here in Idaho!
We have one mule that puts on too much weight too much, so we have to keep her in our round pen for some of the day. Aside from that, we just ease them into pasture in the spring and we haven’t had any issues 😊 We use a little grain in the evening to encourage them to come in off their pasture
@@nmelkhunter1 ya that's what I was wondering for rotation grazing cuz where my horses poop in my grass it just smothers the area and leaves a big poop circle. Like a crop circle but maybe more like a crap circle. Haaa.
That’s a good question to keep in mind when you’re working with your mule 😊 Sometimes I think my mule thinks I’m just a hay dispenser lol But in reality, she trusts me, and that’s a big deal for her 😊🙏🏼
I love the kind little polka Dotty giraffe looking horse you have
Hahaha! Thank you! We’re super thankful to have her! 😊🙏🏼

They really are! It’s so enjoyable to watch them wander around all content out there 😊
What a beautiful Animal.
Thank you! 😊
Nicely done! We do this as well, you have to be smart and make the best out of it, if you don‘t have a lot of grazing space👍🏻🌾

Pokadotted mule, nice.

HOW did she get that coloring?! Was her mother an Appy? Or a Paint, because she is heartstopping!

@@gailkulik8159 haha! I wish! We’ve spent a lot of money on their seed 😅
It is. Summer pastures and winter pastures
Yes! We don’t have enough pasture to let them on the pasture in the winter but we feed a good quality alfalfa/grass hay mix to make up for it ☺️

It’s not 🙂

So lick do yall rotate them so the grass will grow back in the pasture??
Yeah, exactly! 😊 Horses (and mules) are notoriously bad on pastures, so it’s something we’re trying to optimize because we have such limited acreage 😊

That doesn't look that small as far as acreage
Yeah, it’s a decent size property, and we’re super thankful for it 😊 The whole property is 2.4 acres, but the pastures add up to about 1.2 😊
