Travels By Trike
United States
Registrace 29. 06. 2017
Every day is about living the possible. Since 2007, I've cycled on 6 continents and over 20 countries. Now, after 3 years of RV life, I'm headed back out with just my trike for a 9,000 mile trike tour around the USA. I love experiencing how people live in all areas of the world. For me, it's always the people I meet that make a trip memorable. Join me on my travels.
1st Taste of Tater TOT 2024
Just a taste of Tater TOT 2024. So much fun!! We had more trikers than ever. There were over 150 trikes and more trikes than I have ever seen in one place. It was a terrific event. Many thanks to Janet Buckwalter for putting in all the effort. Another ride video from this event will be published shortly. See y'all next year!!

This channel is about all things trikes and travel. I have been riding a recumbent trike since 2005 and have been touring since 2007 all over the world. I have toured on 6 continents, in over 20 countries and cycled more than 100,000 miles. In 2020, I shifted from solo trike touring to solo RV travel. After completing a cross-country solo trike ride, am I now switching back to looking for primo spots and trails to ride my trike.
On this channel, I have gear reviews, tips, and tutorials, but mainly, I produce short travelogue type videos of my tours and rides as I go. I travel with a DJI Action 3, Insta360 One X2, Skydio 2 drone, DJI Mini Pro 3 and an iphone. Thanks for subscribing and following along!

Robin and Chris live locally in Wentachee and invited me to park my RV in their driveway while we went to the Spokumbent Retreat event over the weekend. This year was my 1st time attending the Spokumbent Retreat. This event is put on by a very active recumbent cycling group from Spokane, Washington. San Antonio Trike Tour with Friends, Dave and Edna

In early April I did a RV trip with triking friends, Dave and Edna. We drove to Texas to see the eclipse. On the way we stopped in San Antonio for a few days to ride the River Walk. We also did a wonderful tour with Steve Wood and his San Antonio Bike Tour. We opted for the 3-hour tour and followed Steve riding his WAW velomobile all over San Antonio. He has trikes to rent for the tours but we ...

I have wanted to make this video for many months. It probably feels like I ended the Moto-Myrtle USA Trike Tour very abruptly. In many ways it did. In this video I explain what happened. Mostly, I wanted to make a video to thank everyone for your support. The recumbent and triking communities are incredibly generous. Without your enthusiasm, I would have ended this tour much earlier. Today's ride ended much differently than I thought it would when I started cycling from the Pioneer Family campground in the morning. This is a big emotional day for me. By this point in the tour, I am thoroughly exhausted and suspect that flipping my trike took more out of me than I wanted to admit at the time. Today's ride includes one of the most dreaded hills on the entire Trans Am Bike Route. Lucky me, it will be a steeply graded 4,000 ft descent into the town of Vesuvius. Fellow WAW owner here--it's nice to see another one. Looks like a fun tour.
Fun video Sylvia. Loved the music and the stills.
@@markfeldman6509 thank you, muah!!
Great photos! I have been to several in the past, a lot of nice riding in the area. Glad to see people out having fun.
@@ccroy2001 you’ve been missed!
@TravelsByTrike aww thanks I'm not on FB and have changed jobs a few times so I lost track of it.
Nice aerial footage of group. What percentage of the trikes are e assisted?
@@clydekaneshiro5250 probably 80% e-assist.
Idaho has some truly beautiful scenery for sure, I see why potato’s pick there to live! lol 😂 it was a very big group indeed, and can’t wait to see more from the event.
Hi Sylvia, who puts on these events and how does one find out about them? Are they private or open to anyone who is into trikes?
Anyone can go. There is a fb page for TOT to find more info.
Yes we’d like to know more. 🇨🇦
I rode with Dan twice last fall in Vermont. Inspiring individual.
I love Dan.
Great toe tapping, head swaying music! Such a beautiful array of colors & types of trikes! Your pictures of the scenery are great!
Thanks, Joanne!
Your advice helped the strain on me knee - it’s been a long process in me figuring it out. Thanks!
@@discodancer22 that’s great! I’m glad you found relief.
Socialism. There is no free lunch
Robin’s trike looks very interesting. What did you call it.
Awesome. I have seen the hand Trike’s and wondered why the hand pedal work together. Could the be made to work like foot pedals. Just wondering.
@@vickiporter7144 there’s someone in Portland that had a custom hand and foot recumbent built. It’s cool and fast.
I bicycled through Wenatchee on US 2 in the summer of 1971 and marveled at the orchards and the road side stands selling cherry juice drinks. It was great. I particularly remember Moses Coulee east of the area, now thought to be an outflow channel for glacial lakes. I also remember the 15% humidity east of the coastal range. Never experienced that before.
@@schsch2390 wonderful. I’m going to take Hwy 2 from Wenatchee to Reardon to get the Trail of the Couer d’Alenes next year as part of a 6 month tour.

Good to see you again. Have you not been posting, or has youtube offered me other vids? We have moved to a small town (Colonial Beach VA) with flat trike-able roads and triking has become an alternate choice to town, restaurants, neighborhood touring. The big excursions (3 days+) are yielding to age, but we are happy to get what we can. Will continue to look for your adventures. Blessings.
@@denisbessette7219 thank you! Yes, I took a few month break and am back! Congrats on your move to a trike-friendly town.
I love being out (I have Fat Tad CXS) but gates are lame. Thanks for including that because I haven't done any riding in WA and I plan to do a lot once I get my upgrades finished (it breaks a lot, trying to make it stronger); it's good to be reminded that land use laws and types of restrictions are going to vary from state to state even though I'm like 8 miles from Longview on the Oregon side I really have never gone there. I've been working on itineraries for the peninsula and seeing how many ferries I can hit in a day, stuff like that. :-) Apples should be coming in for the next few months; had a friend lived there for some years (you have massive mosquitoes). Thanks for recording this and putting it up for us to enjoy.
@@russellzauner the trails are very nice although, at the moment, the heat is scorching. I guess the apples like heat. Take care!!
Another nice video of your trike trip. On a flat how fast is Ryan going on his hand cycle? I find it amazing that using his upper body strength that he can generate that much force.
@@clydekaneshiro5250 oh yes, Ryan was easily riding 20 mph. He is very strong and likes to push his limits. I think hand-cycles are cool.
Riding your trike seems to bring out those mood lifting endorphins, Sylvia. Thanks for sharing your happiness, and all those spectacular birds!😁

Sylvia, the idea of cleaning the chain tube along with the chain is brilliant, and it is so into my OCD wheelhouse! Thank you for the valuable tip. I am actually in the midst of cleaning my Catrike Trail recumbent, and I won't start adding lubricant until I clean the tubes. On a different subject - how do you travel with your recumbent trike? I want to travel domestically and internationally, but I do NOT know the first thing about shipping my bike. I'd love to see a tutorial on this. BTW, I don't subscribe very often, but I have subscribed to your channel because I like the way you think! Thank you!!!
Thanks for following along. If you do a search on my channel, you will find a few videos where I show how I travel with my travel. Since these videos were made, I've added e-assist and have yet to have a chance to figure out how to ship the batteries. But, otherwise, it's easy to travel with a trike. Best of luck!

@@TheSouthernTriker thanks, my friend!
This was very helpful but I'm wondering what's the difference between adjusting the boom length and adjusting the seat forward or backward??? Thanks!
thanks! Not all seats are adjustable. For instance, many Catrike models have the seats integrated into the frame. I ride an HP Scorpion, and the seat back is adjustable to be more or less reclined but the seat doesn't move forward or backward. On most trikes, the only adjustment for leg length is by boom adjustment only.
Great overview video! Thanks. How do the pedal straps prevent numb toes compared to clipless pedals? What do they do differently?
@@ft3Safety1st2 I’m not sure. Maybe it’s that my feet can move over the pedals less restricted.
@@TravelsByTrike Thank you for the quick reply, great to know. I wasn't sure if you tightened the straps down so tight that it restricted blood flow (like the pressure suits fighter jet pilots wear).
Straps on order for my wife's ICE Adventure HD. She could not get the hang of SPDs, so these, along with some Shimano Pedals, should do the trick. Thanks for sharing!
