    Great video. I recently bought the Craftex CX118. It's a Canadian company but looks to be the identical saw. I assume they're all made in the same factory with different paint lol. I really did not expect it to be so underpowered though. I'm coming from a slightly larger saw (14" King Canada), but was much older and missing parts. I actually came across your video as I was looking for tips and tricks to get mine working a bit better. didn't expect to see the identical saw! I think at this point, I need something like your minimax as I want to do some re-sawing. But this was a good video to confirm my thoughts - and I was able to get it for about half the price Wondering how it performed with a different blade? Was hoping to see that in the vid. Either way, thanks for posting! Great review.

      Thanks for watching and commenting. The MiniMax 16" is an excellent band saw and very good at resawing with a 1" blade. saw. I bought the Wen because I needed something smaller so I didn't need to swap out blades all the time (typical cut takes 30 sec and blade swap takes several minutes). The blades that came with the Wen were not very good, so I tried the Ayao version. These blades were better quality, inexpensive (2-pk $16USD) but dulled quickly. I think if I/you were to use a better blade (like USA Band Saw Blades -> gmbandsaw.com or Olson) the saw would perform even better.

    Hello there, this is a good saw, not as flashy as the Rikon version but very capable. Your pros and cons are pretty good I have been using this model saw for a few years and I love it. My intention was to buy two band saws this one and a large one but honestly this saw is so useful I still haven’t bought a bigger one. So maybe 10” is enough. I generally work with wood that isn’t wider than 6” so it will fit my jointer and this little saw can resaw 6” hardwood all day. I use 3/8 3PC and a 1/2 3PC blade from Timber Wolf to resaw and it cuts with ease. My main general use blades a 1/8 & 3/8 blades and they cut clean. You are sort of right about dust collection and I never calibrate the fence ruler but the fence is great sets up easily and stays true. One small gripe is to open the bottom door you have to loosen the fence clamp as it blocks the door that’s a problem if you have a tricky set up for multiple cuts. I made a handle that is out or the way of the door. I don’t like the non magnetic aluminum table and the non standard miter slot but I made a sled with runners for the slots and it works great. I found that positioning the work light out and away from the cutting area works best. This saw punches above its weight and I love it.

    • @victorywoodworks
      @victorywoodworks Před měsícem

      Thanks for your feedback. I hadn't thought about building a sled for the saw, but now I think i might. As for the work light, I bought a hose clamp with a rubber padding on the inside and screwed the light (arm) to the under/inside of the upper shroud of the saw so it faces the operator. Now I can aim it at the front of the cut more easily. Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing.

      @@victorywoodworks always glad to hear from another WEN user. BTW during my most recent blade change I noticed a slight wobble in the top wheel. two things I learned recently, the bearings on the top and underneath the table portion need to be adjusted to no more than a 16th of an inch from the blade. basically as close as you can get them without them spinning when the saw is turned on. And the other thing was the positioning of the blade on the pulley wheels. Apparently the gullet portion of the blade is what needs to be perfectly center on the wheel. lots of folks think it's the center of the band on the blade that's supposed to be centered in the pulley but this causes lots of wobble. The issues you were dealing with are the same that I was dealing with and it corrected them perfectly! Thanks for your channel!

      If you manage to get the non-tang arbor out you will notice the non-tang Arbor has a thead on the end you could buy a button head cap screw and lock tight it to the threads with the screw extending to where the tang would nomally be, that mod. should allow the drift to work like it would with a tang arbor. By the way 0.0025" total runout is very very good for a drill press with a stock "Jacobs" type chuck.

      Its funny, but I accidentally disconnected the arbor by drilling with a forstner that got stuck in the hole. Knowing this now, I dont think removal will be a problem (or needed). This arbor seems to work well so will leave it on.

      For comparison a Jacobs keyless 1/2” chuck for my drill press was about $160 I am sticking with the chuck key. Is there any lash adjustment on the table crank?

    • @victorywoodworks
      @victorywoodworks Před měsícem

      I couldn't find any lash adjustment, just the locking bolt to the main column. It just seems that the lifter threads/mechanism is very coarse.

    OK, you sold me on this drill press. I'd like to see any follow up videos on your thoughts since you have had it for nearly a month now. Thanks for the video!

      Thanks for watching the video and commenting. There is a follow up video on the drill press with a few accessories that I purchased. Its in the works now and will be up tomorrow (1/1/2024), so stay tuned. *** Spoiler, the drill press performed much better than I expected and hoped for at the $200-ish price point.

    I have the same feather boards from Amazon and they didn't come with the t bolt that goes into the track. I get on chat with customer service and they wanted me to pay to ship the whole thing back instead of just sending me the missing piece. Yours look the same because the amazon seller dropshipped from temu

    I know Amazon offers a returnoption sometimes and offers Extend warranty at additional cost. Does Temu offer either? Something you might want to add to your list.

    Feather board review follow up - After reviewing more online photos and playing around with the feather board(s), I figured out that you were supposed to use a mini miter bar at each end of the feather board (they were still flimsy). I still stand by my statements in the video that this method (vs the 1 long miter bar) is still more dangerous than I feel comfortable using and would not use in this configuration. Although, the remaining pieces of the feather board kit were of a quality similar to the Benchdog version i already owned. I am now in search of a longer miter bar to use with these feather boards. Hope that clears up my commentary in the video.

    Many of the items on Amazon are infact sold through their storefront app. Many of these folks buy from Temu and resell at a markup. As for the shipping, I live in California 27 miles from the nearest warehouse and have had Amazon orders take over 2 weeks with Prime. Again because the items came from a reseller on the East coast even though Amazon failed to mention that fact. Prime is not cheap (about $150.00 a year) so you are paying for those padded envelopes. "Caveat emptor" when it comes to Amazon.

    Temu systematically forces their venders to agree to allow Temu to control the selling price in order to stay on the platform. Temu then lowers the price so low the vender doesn't make any profit or in some cases lose money. This eventually will force manufactures to find a way to make things cheaper and quality will suffer. In my opinion buying from Amazon is bad enough although a necessary evil in this day and age, but to buy Chinese products from a Chinese company where a return is not a realistic option just won't happen in my house! I want to sleep at night. China has plans to crush us and dominate the world. they are making missiles, Guns, planes, ships and bullets with their profits and one of those bullets has your Childs name on it. They openly talk about killing Americans. They spy, lie, cheat and steal our intellectual property while smiling at you and lets not even start with Human rights violations. Don't forget they are communist's and the people have no rights whatsoever. BUY AMERICAN or from any where else for that matter just not China! I know some things can only be gotten from China but we need to wake up and start to change that, it will take a long time but your grand children will thank you.

    I bought 3 nice Machinist squares from 3 different suppliers, Banggood, Ali Express and Amazon and to be fair to them all the prices were very similar. I bought the ones with the DIN875/00 or 1 or 2 on them. I'm told the DIN is the GERMAN weights and standards measurements or something like that but I was always told to get the 00 if possible bcos it's the best but it will never matter unless they're actually made in GERMANY. The main issue nowadays with any type of tools whether they be power tools or other hand tools is most are made in CHINA and get another company stamp put on them or their painted a different colour. I have seen other version of the Dewalt CONTRACTOR TABLE SAW recently from SKIL & VEVOR. The difference is build quality on some parts on these saws where some parts are plastic and others have metal instead for longer lasting wear and tear. I like buying from different sources and I can say that the majority of things I've bought from Banggood or Ali Express tools wise have been successful for me. I've been pleased with the products for the most part but the shipping/delivery times are 30+ days. That's the most annoying part of the whole thing but u can pick up some really sweet deals if ur willing to wait. I love a good bargain me.. heehee! Great video and I like how u worked it all out. Those faithful squares online are not great. There are some China tools u could look at if ur interested and I have the name of a great Channel u could throw ur eyes over if u have a few minutes. It's called @Hooked On Wood and the guy's name is Denis. He's from the Netherlands. He has a website that deals with all these great tools but he will not put any bd tools up on his channel for review. I think u should have a look bcos he is scoring his too.. I hope u check him out but u probably know the channel anyways.. Laters pal and keep the great content up..

    Nice comparison. I got a shirt that was the wrong size from Temu. I complained, got an immediate refund and they told me to keep the first one. Long ago when I was a wee lad, my grandfather told me that it's a poor craftsman who blames his tools.
