    If soil is well tilled in the spring will the E-Ox keep the pathways clear of weeds during the summer.

      It can just need to keep up with it mostly. I usually would cultivate twice a week or once a week. And it does a good job if you rotate implements I usually run the tine weeder one day then cultivator teeth one day then sweeps another day.

    @barneyrubble1431 Před měsícem

    at least out of so many videos this one talks about what my problem has been this year maybe the UV the sun is at it's maximum solar cycle ?(tomato plants do best in mostly shaded places,, I provide shade for as many as I can,, those are the ones that recovered and are doing the best,, and some in shade are still not doing good ??????????????(?) !

  • @barneyrubble1431
    @barneyrubble1431 Před měsícem

    I've been thinking more down the line of acidic soil,, seriously suspicious of herbicide,, I've been able to pestering my plants with everything in the book, some have recovered some recovered and then get sick again,, at least I got about 50 to 80 plants that are doing just fine that have recovered and I've had some that didn't even get sick they all were all together,, I've almost used every supplement that people use,, so I'm still losted to the cure and what the cauze is,, those still sick are growing they'll just have to take nature's course from here (unfortunately some just died after they quit growing)

    My HUGE concern is that the E-Ox is totally dependent on specific batteries to run. What if it gets hard to find those batteries. Tilmor, please make an OX, without the E and with a 5 hp Briggs engine.

    • @adamjackson8994
      @adamjackson8994 Před měsícem

      They do make a power-ox with a Honda engine. It's a step bigger, has higher clearance, and can take up to a 54" toolbar. If that's right for your context, have at it. I wouldn't call reliance on any one of three common brands of drill batteries a serious concern, though. No more than the risk of a back-ordered engine part or fuel shortage. And if it is still a concern, you can buy a lot of spare batteries for the price jump to buying the power-ox.

    TY for sharing the Qlipr system. I'm debating buying some to try. I have watched many vids but have not seen the Qlipr in person to try opening the clip etc. Thanks for the very closeup shot of the clip grippers. The belly to chest length of the bottom of the hook seems important to figure out because I'm 5' 3' so a comfortable reach is important for it to be useful.. I have viewed Farmers friend website as well as Neversink Tools website ; so far they are the only two sites I've seen to purchase Qlipr from.

    • @notaprogardener
      @notaprogardener Před 2 měsíci

      No problem I was researching it myself and it was hard to get an idea of what everything really looked like so I hope I captured it decently I have learned that I wish I would’ve did just three rows of tomatoes spaced a little bit farther apart (sometimes the cherry tomatoes grow straight out into the aisle and if you’re not careful, you can accidentally bump them and kink the stem on them, but they still will grow. It’s just you gotta be mindful of all sides when squatting and standing up when I have them as close as I do) it is doable, but I’m telling you this now so you don’t have to discover it the way I did lol😅 next time I will try to do it with the double leader system, instead of doing those two rows on the very sides of the tunnel Even though it is working on the sides of the tunnel it’s just a bit harder to lower and lean them but it is working. I also thought I didn’t need the wicket system that goes on the ground that keeps your tomatoes off the ground and I think that would be a good investment for next year for us but if you can swing that I would get those too. I’ll try to cover that on a future video. I’ve just been extremely busy.

      @@notaprogardener Here North East our last frost date jis usually May 25-28. Zone 4B, maybe now Zone 5. I found your early planting plan interesting and helpful.I know a farmer in southern VT who has Qlipr system and he says his right-hand gal drops the plants and circles the vines at the base thus NOT lower n leaning NOR the wicket system. I haven't found much data on just how to circle the plant vine when you lower it and raise the plant clip on the Qliper hook. Have you ever tried that? have planted about 200 tomato plants so far in the tunnel. 27 of them are grafted and much bigger and I had to drop the roller hook twine because the grafted plants were too big and heavy for the stick support I started with. The rest were planted end of last week are smaller. So far standing tall with no support .

    • @notaprogardener
      @notaprogardener Před 5 měsíci

      We have a long process that some of our videos cover I do 4 weeks indoors on tomatoes. Including a week of acclimation process Then 3-4 weeks in a greenhouse Before I planted in the high tunnel I amended bed and tilthed it. Then covered it with the weed fabric. The black fabric heated up the soil ahead of time with the doors closed. And then dug the holes where I was planting tomatoes to further heat up the soil. Once the soil inside reached a certain temperature 50° I planted them now we had a 24° night. The soil temp is high enough to keep the inside of the high tunnel warm so at the 24° night inside the tunnel was 35°. It didn’t get no lower, so it was a big success. The key was letting the ground heat up ahead of time.

    I thought i recognized the scenery! Some of my family lives over in Southern Illinois! AKA little Egypt! Grandparents lived in Olive Branch(if you know where that is/pretty tiny town), my dad grew up in Herrin(another tiny spot on the map) also went to SIU for a few semesters before moving out to California and eventually started a family. So that's where I live for now lol but ive been to SI plenty of times i know the place as well as where i live here in CA(prolly cause the towns there are few and far between! Lol). Cario, Carbondale, Marion, Crab Orchard Lake etc. Been all around that tri-state area too Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Paducah, Kentucky. Id move there if there were more jobs to apply for yet sadly most people move away from the rural midwest for work(example-my father) ANYWAYS... enough of my blabbering, i apologize its just awesome to here your from Southern Illinois! one thing you might try next time for the no dig : Put cardboard down on the row area thick then use layers of leaves and grass clippings with you compost. Cardboard smothers the weeds/grass and then you get the break down of the other materials as well. Just my 2 cents worth.

    Funny, they changed me from 6b to 7a also. I just planted out some onion, lettuce, and pak Choi seedlings yesterday. I planted some spinach and cold hardy lettuces under cover in November or December and I’m almost ready to harvest some. All of the buds are already breaking around here. Hopefully it’s not a false spring. What usually happens is I get everything planted out beautifully, then there’s at least 2-3 more frosts and I either loose stuff, or cover everything up with sheets and blankets. I’m waiting this year and it’ll probably be the year I should have started early. Either way it’s fun and if I get to eat something even better!

    I’m pretty sure I am pretty close to you over here in southeast Missouri, and until a couple days ago I had a beautiful crop of Asian greens growing. I topped all the larger plants and covered a bunch with tubs, but I doubt many will make it through this arctic blast. It was a couple packets of dollar general micro greens so I’m not loosing much money and it was a fun experiment. Stir fries and salads into January is amazing to me. I also dug up and brought in a dozen or so lettuces. The oak leaf and burgundy lettuces did really well in the cold. Seems like the little Asian cabbages like Pok Choi, or maybe they are mustards, I’m not sure but they do really well in the cold. I planted spinaches right after thanksgiving and they’re tiny. They probably won’t make it either but we’ll see. Good luck.

    Enjoy my Hoss planter. Use it mostly for the smaller seeds. Selden change the planter plates. Use aan Earthway hooked behind the garden tractors for larger seeds. Plant about eight hundred linear feet of beets to sell, all planted in no time with the Hoss seeder. I added the brackets to angle the handles off center, better than trying to walk like a duck.

      Holy moly. I hope to be able to farm like that in 3 years for market. That’s awesome. It is a very nice I love using it for corn and carrot seed. This next year, I’m going to be using it for a lot more crops for market. And that will be a nice addition I will make some offset brackets eventually 😅
