Years ago, one passed only a couple hundred feet over the rooftops, in the pitch dark, on my street. The pilots became momentarily lost in the fog about 12 miles from the runway !! Freakiest thing I've ever seen.... other than a UFO (all true).

The 747 crash in Afghanistan was not caused by the crew or the war zone. An APC was not stored correctly and broke free during takeoff. It rolled back and slammed into the rear bulkhead. That part of the plane also housed the hydraulic fluid tubes that control the plane. They were hit so hard that several pieces were shot out of the back of the plane and landed on the runway. Once that happened the plane was doomed. There was literally nothing the crew could have done to save the plane.
