Tony + Lindsey along with our daughter, and sometimes a dog in tow, we like to explore near and far. Based out of the Pacific Northwest camping and road trips are a big part of our travel and our current setup is a Toyota Tacoma with a Four Wheel Camper Project M. We have chosen this combination for its versatility, reliability, size and space. We also have a 1985 VW Westfailia that is currently resting, have had an element with a pop top, and have spent plenty of nights in a tent. After all our samplings we think we have finally found our Goldilocks setup. Please subscribe to get updates as we share our adventures!
RESULTS- Four Wheel Camper Project M: Frozen Latch
Frozen Temperatures have caused problems with the latch system on our Four Wheel Camper Project M. To resolve the issue Four Wheel Camper suggested we use Boshield T-9 to keep the components from freezing. We have applied the Boshield T-9 so hopefully this will help with all seasons camping and utilizing the bed of the Toyota Tacoma in freezing temperatures. Stay tuned for an update on how it works.

Maui is one of our absolute places to visit. Fun in the sun and awesome adventures. We stayed in a great air B&B on Sugar Beach which is the five-mile-long beach great for walking and running. On This trip we hiked Mt. Haleakala which is an awesome National Park. We paddle boarded on our Body Glove inflatable board, swam with sea turtles, went sailing with Trilogy, and spent tons of time playin...

Four Wheel Camper: Project M-Keeping The Bugs Out
zhlédnutí 7KPřed 2 lety
Keeping the bugs out, while creating airflow (thanks to “no fans Tony”) was something I (Lindsey) wanted to achieve in our Project M. I read some post on social media about the: MAGZO Magnetic Screen Door Fit Door Size 70 x 79, Fiberglass French Door Mesh Curtain with Heavy Duty-Grey. So, I bought it from Amazon, added some Velcro to the Project M and trimmed the bottom of the screen to fit the...

Four Wheel Camper-Project M: Dust In The Bed

We get a lot of questions about dust in the bed of our Toyota Tacoma with the Four Wheel Camper Project M on the back. We’ve done some sealing, but there’s more we can do! Check out the video to see the outcome after driving up logging roads for a few hours!
Canyon Lake-Deming Washington

We hit the backroads for a little excursion in our backyard! The road to Canyon Lake washed out a little bit ago, now you can park at a gate and walk in a few miles to get to the lake. The trail around the lake was very overgrown (hence the machete action, thanks Dad and Tony)! The lake is gorgeous, as is the scenery around it! After our jaunt around the lake we took a drive down history lane. ...

We saw Crater Lake National Park, the Redwoods and lots o...
Road Trip: Taking The Backroads
zhlédnutí 1,4KPřed 3 lety
Our favorite thing to do on a road trip (or any trip) is to take the paths less traveled. When at our campsite at Panther Flat we were chatting with some locals. They gave us the tip to go to Stout Grove in the Redwoods. So we did. To get there we took a windy dirt road (very well maintained) that led us to some magnificent Redwoods! It wasn’t overly crowded, which was great! We were able to ta...

2 years and no videos?! Where'd you two go??
I know!! We went MIA! We sold the Tacoma and the FWC Topper. It wasn’t the best fit for our family. We have a new rig! I think we will share it soon!
Hey! How has it been going? I'm also in the PNW. Still having leaks??
Hey!! We ended up selling it. It wasn’t the best fit for our family of three. I can’t say I miss the camper topper, but I sure do miss the Tacoma!
Buy the Home Depot, Rigid Brand tool boxes. They stack, and lock together. You can sit or stand on them, and they can organize things very well in a compartmentalized way.
Cant believe they made a van after a smash bros nod
Have you had your camper in the wind?
has this worked okay for you guys?
Nice setup!
Im pretty sure mosquitoes would luv the interior aw well. No screens how does that work?
How tall are the seats from the floor
Hello I am seriously considering one of these. My question is how do you heat it
Look into diesel heater. They are very efficient and some models are easy to install!
Diesel stinks! Is there a propane option?
Any update on the dust intrusion fixes?
How many people are in your family? We have a family of four, 11-year-old and 7-year-old. Wondering if we could manage to get everyone in there. parents up top, kids below I'm guessing.
Can be a problem! I have seen people adding magnetic bug nets with velcro for tail gate area. Wondering if any new ideas you discovered last few years! Wondering if something like the bug net idea in full vinyl or plastic with vinyl before closing up would or could seal out dust??
I have a are camper shell, doesn't leak.we should not accept the 4 whl shell leaking.
I read your article on Whatcom Talk and I may know the Goldilocks truck camper for y’all, ATOverland is on CZcams and they have several different truck campers, from flatbed truck camper to ones like the project m, my personal favorite(from my research) is the habitat. I hope I can help
Awesome! Thank for reading the article! We sold the pickup and camper! We still have our westy. We are potentially on a quest to build a modern day Westfalia!!
Thank for this video 👍
Thanks for all the informative Project M videos! We decided to go with an OVRLND camper, but it's basically the same thing. I'm using a lot of your information to plan and get ready for when we take possession of ours. Can't wait!
Sounds great! Have fun!!
Would this help keep out heat as well?
Yes, it’s meant to keep it cool on warm days too!
People who record in portrait should be flogged.
Amateur, I know!
I saw a video of an Australian trailer that used an air filter and a fan to provide positive air pressure to discourage dust. On my work truck, I installed a 4 “ pipe between the cab and bed to do the same thing using the HVAC and cabin filter. I just run the fan at 40-50% and go full on a dust road. Works for moisture control as well. Granted, most don’t want to hole saw their cab and bed.
You might try a portable hairdryer?
Thank you. I posted this rain water question on another one of your posts before watching this. Hmm. Is this leaking and dust leaking common for all camper tops? Even ARE style tops too? I guess the slide in type are better to get since entirely enclosed?
Unfortunately I think it’s very common for toppers! The canopy aspect is great and the minimalistic set up, but I wish it was a little dryer! It would keep things a lot cleaner.
Whatda. Interesting. How come all the other 1000s channels dont mention this with camper tops? They all have beautiful videos made and glamorize it. How about episode with rain? Does rain get in? Does it mildew fast? How to prevent the mildew? Do you have to air out after a rainstorm like a rooftop tent? Seems like for the same price. Getting a 4x4 used sprinter would be better? Thanks for honest show. Luv it
We’re all about transparency here! We’ve had alot of condensation issues!! We live in the PNW and it has been especially damp this year! At all times I have a “damp rid” bag hanging in the back just to soak up some of the condensation. I get that it’s a canopy topper, but with a sleeping space in it…it makes it kind of a “rough” situation! You could most definitely get a used sprinter for the same price as our set up. With a family that’s hard because so many sprinter buildouts are done by couples or singles with no kids, so no back seat with belts, at least that’s the problem we ran into when we were exploring our options.
A thick Sara Silverman.
You’re too kind…
Hey guys, I got one of these toppers and Im confused because every video I watch with it, including yours, the door opens so much more up than mine! Also mine has these two hydraulic looking bars similar to what extends when the top pops up on the front and back which are already failing to go all the way up without effort. Only had it 6 months
Huh, that’s not good. I can’t imagine they need to be replaced already?!?
Just ordered mine. Ready September 2023! Can’t wait. Tent camping until then.
Thanks for all the videos. They are really helpful. I ordered mine and will be getting it early next year. Did you guys do any modifications to your truck?
Awesome!! No mods. It’s handling the M pretty well! After about a week you won’t even notice it!
T-9 or WD-40,do you think there’s a difference?
It seems to have more slip/lubricant than WD-40.
Are those pads that you have below custom?
They are bleacher seat pads that I found at target! They fit perfectly!!!
Great video. Really like this project camper. I can build as is. The wait to get one is way out there. Must be swamped. Is there any other brands out there with Project M same design? Thanks
Thank you! AT Overland and GoFast Campers have similar options. When we got our project M the AT overland Atlas wasn’t an option, the other AT overland options were too much tent canvas for us living in the PNW, I could just smell the mildew that could’ve happened 😂
Hope that works for you guys. I had a question about the height of your rig. I'm considering getting one of these, but was curious if it would fit in my garage. We have 8ft garage doors...do you happen to know your current height clearance of your rig? Also, is your Tacoma lifted? We lifted ours 3" in the front, 2" in the rear. Thanks!
Hi! It does fit in our garage. BUT we have not made any mods to the truck. It’s a stock TRD off-road.
@@adventurewithinreach2201 thanks! Keep putting out videos and I’ll keep watching them!
Just wondering where did those cushions come from? Thx.
Target! They are bleacher seat cushions. They were very inexpensive!
@@adventurewithinreach2201 thanks !
What floor pad is that in your truck bed? Where do you get it? Is it custom fit, or can you get if for a 2015 Tundra 5.5 bed? How much? Is there much to install? Curious, if you found a solution to the dust intrusion? Thanks.
It’s the stock Toyota bed mat, I am sure you can get them from Toyota for your year. No install, you just lay it down. We sealed all the cracks up with a door seal and Rok Blok, both have done a pretty good job. We do a lot of boondock camping so we’re up logging roads a lot!
That is what I’m looking for to the T
Does the camper covering your antenna, does it block the signal? My antenna is for Sirius/Nav and is in the same spot as yours. Getting my topper in Sept.
Yes, it does block it. We haven’t added an antenna, but I think it would help.
Very NOT informative.
Bummer. What kind of information are you looking for?
How difficult to raise roof? I had a 4Wcamper shell a few years ago and it was kinda tough to raise.
It’s super easy. We aren’t tall people and we have no problem! The outside lifts will probably need to be replaced down the road, but they help a lot.
Way!!!! More content and particulars...PLEASE!!!
Let us know what you want to see!
HOw can your Tacoma handle the payload ? My yellow sticker on the door of my 21 pro says 990lbs max?
It’s not a problem. It handles very well. We took the payload into consideration. The M (our build) only weighs 350lbs(ish). With us and our gear we are pretty good given our tacomas payload is closer to 1400lbs.
@@adventurewithinreach2201 thank you
Hey man, how much worse is the gas with the camper ?
We avg 16.5 mpg. So, not great. But not terrible.
Awesome . Thanks for responding
Cool videos! I have a Project M build effective June 2022. Great to suscribe to your channel! If I might ask, who is the singer and song on this video? Ty
You’ll love it!! The song! Usually I tag them in the comments, which I didn’t. Let me see if I can find it! Thank you for following along with us!!
@@adventurewithinreach2201Appreciate it! See u out on the trails!
What's your experience been like in medium to high winds? Any concerns with the pop up materials holding up in storms?
We have not been in a lot of windy situations. But, there are great Four Wheel Camper “forum” pages on Facebook where I have read about this and they seem to hold up through high winds!
I have Tacoma as well, did you use the 4.25" size?
Yep! 4.25” it’s still hanging on and doing a great job of keeping some dust out!!
That answers my question! Thanks!
Pro tip: if you take the bungie off before you raise your top, there will be less tension on the bungie. Of course, install the bungie before lowering it.
Ohh! I like it! Thanks for the tip!
Do you need a separate license plate for the project m in Washington state? Thanks
No, not for the M since it’s a “canopy topper”.
That’s a lot of stuff
Thankfully since this video we’re better at packing light! It’s hard when you have so much space to not fill it up 😂
But it doesnt lock you in?
Only when it’s freezing temps out 😬
How did it hold up in the winter? What heat source are you guys using and was it enough?
We use a little buddy to get it piping hot in there and then shut it off before bed! We’ve camped in 20° temps with that a some good sleeping bags and blankets and were pretty toasty!
@@adventurewithinreach2201 that’s awesome! You guys have the thermal pack right? Any condensation? Keep up the great content. keep getting out there, we all need it during these ridiculous times.. and happy holidays!
@@uttamgala7186 we do have the thermal pack which is great in cold and heat! SO much condensation!! I bought some damp rid bags to hang back there full time and that has helped!
Hey, what gas mileage are y'all getting on the freeway?
We are mostly hwy driving and average around 16.5 mpg.
