Jan Bartlema & HET CONSORT - ALAMANDA for guitar solo and Mandolin Orchestra by ANNETTE KRUISBRINK
The "Alamanda" by the Dutch composer Annette Kruisbrink is a composition for guitar solo and mandolin orchestra. The work is based on French medieval songs and shows, in three successive parts, a dialogue between the guitar soloist and the orchestra. It was composed in 2014 and premiered in the Netherlands on the 11th of February, '23, in the Reuland-Concert hall of the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Zwolle (NL) at one of the concerts during the 'Kruisbrink 65 Festival 2023'. This was done by the same soloist and orchestra, the Dutch guitarist Jan Bartlema and Het CONSORT conducted by Alex Timmerman.
This video was recorded in March, 2023, in the Mennonite Church in Steenwijk (NL) and made possible by Annette Kruisbrink, as the composer of this beautiful work entitle ALAMANDA for guitar and mandolin orchestra, Jan Bartlema as the guitar soloist, and by the members of the Dutch Mandolin Chambers Orchestra THE CONSORT.

The Carillon Variations on the medieval song "Maria durch ein Dornwald ging" was composed by Victor Kioulaphides for solo Mandolin in 2012. In the composition, in addition to the medieval melody, the sounds of the bells of a carillon and their reverberation are incorporated in the music in a very illustrative way. Enjoy! The Song Inside for solo mandolin was composed by Victor Kioulaphides in 2017. This beautiful gem of a piece is played here by Alex Timmerman on the Mandoliola, the alto mandolin in the Mandolin family. The instrument was made by the Roman Master Luthier Cav.     Glad I found this one. I recently was able to buy a 1980 Daniel Roye guitar. Also executed in nice Brasilian rosewood for sides and back. The sound is immediately recognizable. Not that voluminous but rather an intimate sound and lovely in its' registers. And good to hear Alex playing this instrument accordingly. Thumbs up of course!

    Ths Hungarian "Czardas" seems to have been very popular during the late 19th/early 20th centuries. The Czardas was of course the model on which the Franz Liszt Hungarian rhapsodies were based on.

    Wonderful performance! The rescoring is marvelous, and it's nice to hear some skillful and lovely ornamentations in a piece that is usually performed fairly straight.
