Hi, hello and your poor nail! Some pretty heavy reads here. I think I read Plato once back in college but have never thought about reading it for fun again lol I just finished up Service Model and was NOT A FAN! It's listed as some kind of adventurous action-filled story quest, and it was anything but that Happy reading and take care! See ya on the next one
Hi, hello~ I wouldn't say I'm reading these books for fun. LOL They're for a cause. What a bummer about Service Model falling short. =/ I just looked it up on goodreads and it has a 4.1 rating. But I take those ratings with a grain of salt. That's why I like reading the one star reviews. What's next on the tbr?
Yeah I feel like I was duped, the description and "critic's reviews" made me think this was going to be an action-packed sci-fi robot book and it was not even close! I just finished a silly space book called The Worst Ship in the Fleet, book one of 7 or 8 in a series. It was pretty short but not too bad. Just reading little filler books now until my library holds are ready, I got James and Horror Movie weeks away!
6:38 RIP
😂 It's all good. There was a quick recovery. Thank you for dropping in.
A very interesting selection of books! I read the Tuttle twins book based on the road to serfdom, and I feel like I’ve read the abolition of man, but I can’t remember.
I've never heard of the Tuttle Twins. Is this a homeschool curriculum?
That is a very interesting pile of books. However, it's not really my genre. But I am interested in you and C.S. Lewis. I will stalk your videos and see what going on. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it as usual. Sorry about your Nail. -James & Bella!
I'll save you the time in trying to search the video. Lewis was more of a philosopher than a follower of Christ, which scripture says not to do. Colossians 2:8 When I first read Mere Christianity I liked it. But then I read the Bible a few times before re-reading Mere Chrisitianity and realized how wrong it is. I tore up my copy and threw it in the trash. The books are for a cause to improve education. The youth are our future and sadly a lot of them are extremely ignorant.
@@BookZealots. Thanks for sharing that with me.
You even break a nail for the cause! I am searching out that Hayek book. Great list. Best wishes.
LOL Yep. I almost edited that part out too. But the cause is to improve education and I'd do more than break a nail to help students. Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm still trying to figure out how to comment on your channel to avoid the censoring. Rob Piri gets all the credit for the list. These aren't my go to genre. Have a great weekend Friend over the pond.
Yes, I'm sure that one was printed when you ordered it. That's how Amazon does the self-published books. And a lot of these classic/older works are public domain and are published by different people through there. So it's a print on demand service.
Thank you! I like thinking that book was published just for my order. Especiallly since the book is old and out of print, but still available. Imagine if I had to order an old edition. It would probably be hundreds of dollars.
Good selection of books! The Republic of Plato was required reading for my college philosophy class. I gave it a good try, but did not finish it. I remember sitting by the Yuba River near Downieville, on a big rock, trying to read it. My little 18 year old brain didn't expand that far.
It sounds like a nice memory and a great place to read a book, even though you didn't finish it. 🤗
I love all the history books in this tag. I have yet to read any of David McCullough's work, but I have heard great things and have a few of his books on my tbr. I look forward to doing the buddy-read with you for "My Dearest Friend"!
McCullough does not disappoint. There's a McCullough readalong starting next month with one of his smaller books. The books are being read in publication order. If you can you should join in. I am also looking forward to our buddy read. I told my son, "I'm already planning my tbr for 2025! LOL Isn't everyone?
@@BookZealots which McCullough book is being started in August? That sounds like it could be a fun readalong. Historathon makes the year seem like it's flying by; even though we're still solidly in Q3, it feels like we're already a hop, skip, and a jump away from Q4, with 2025 not being far behind. Not that I'm pulling the string; I'm enjoying this quarter. I need to make sure I write down on my developing 2025 tbr list that we have our buddy read, so that I don't forget about it!
@@tahlia__nerds_out The first book for the readalong is The Johnstown Flood. @eldertalks is the host. She has an announcement video and a leisurely calendar for the reading plan. Participants can jump in with whichever books they're interested in or read all or one. I pulled My Dearest Friend out from its spot on the top shelf and put it on another shelf facing out so I won't forget. 😁 But I do also have a 2025 tbr excel spreadsheet started. The year certainly is flying. I think next year I'm going to do Historathon differently. I have come to realize I do not like secular prehistory. And not a big fan of the middle ages either. But get me into quarter 3 and 4 and I can't read fast enough for all of the books I have. LOL And often life interrupts.
This is a nice tag to jump on. Lovely to see your chosen books. Those questions are fun too. Haha.
Hello Peter~ How are you doing? So good to see you. I currently have your video of Akure Book Club in a tab on my computer. 🤗 I'm at the part with you on the couch talking about bringing it altogether and people participating and talking about books. Well done. Very impressive. mwah 😘 ~Erion
@@BookZealots Aw aw. To know that you watched it all that long to that section is amazing 😅😅I mean, it's a long video and I was scared most people might not reached it half before saying goodbye. You are awesome to reached that length. I'm impressed. 😄
@@P.EnglishLiterature I'm still watching. I wouldn't stop at the best part. LOL It's not just Nigeria that people aren't reading. That guy with the mask was kind of scary. Why did he have a mask? I was curious about looking up book clubs around me. I think the public library has one. Do you have public libraries?
@@BookZealots Yes, there are public libraries here but they don't host book club meetings. I have searched my city and couldn't find one so, I thought to myself "why not create one at the absence of one?" You know, and yeah, we did it. We will be having another edition this week's Saturday on the 27th, Most of the members have read the chosen books but I haven't yet. I plan starting tomorrow, I have a lot of books to read myself, adding this to it looks like a lot. Haha. But I will get to it surely as the organizer, I can't be left behind.
@@BookZealots As to the guy on mask, I don't know 🤣🤣But he is found of wearing mask to events. More like his one style I think.
I loved Hope Between the Pages. My mom read it at my recommendation and loved it too. I have read quite a few of her books now (5) and 3 of them I liked but were definitely a little fluffy. One I liked for the most part but I couldn’t stand the romance elements- it was a good thing it wasn’t the first book I read from her… and this one that I really enjoyed. Don’t be too mad at us if you don’t like it 😊
I was sharing with another booktuber that I might need it for a palette cleanser since I've read some heavy books this month. But I don't know that I'll get to it until next month...maybe. LOL No worries. I won't be "too mad." 😂 I am really hoping to enjoy it.
I like what I’ve read by Pepper Basham, but it is most certainly on the edge of my fluff tolerance. I haven’t read the one you have there though. Keep in mind I read cozy mysteries as palette cleansers, so my fluff tolerance is somewhat high. 😉Husband for the win!
LOL Husband definitely gets a big win. 😁👍👍📚🤗 Thank you for the heads up about other Pepper Basham books. I've been reading a lot of heavy stuff this month, so a fluff book mind be a perfect palette cleanser. But I probably won't get to it this month. LOL
How nice of your husband to buy you a stack of books. I have so many books I want to read, and I’m constantly fighting time constraints. Can’t someone pay me to read?? Ha! Love your sign off! I wasn’t triggered 😂
I thought so. LOL It was a nice surprise to see what I had saved in my online shopping cart. LOL OH my yes! So many things keep interrupting reading. I'm with you. Getting paid to read would be wonderful. And with the amount of books you read, they'd put you on salary. 📚👍😁 Thank you for not being triggered. We did lose two subscribers. I'm okay with that. I'd rather have people tell me why they were triggered instead of just disappearing so we can have a chat. I think the people, like yourself, who don't get triggered enjoy learning and continue to ask questions for more information. Would this be accurate?
@@BookZealots Yes that would be accurate for me. I'm always curious and want to gain knowledge of subjects by reading many sources. Like you said, I'd rather have a discussion with people instead of them just disappearing. At least you know, the people who stay subscribed are more open to differing opinions.
Hi, hello and what a haul! I've always used a razor blade to clear off stickers, but I'm sure a hair dryer is a lot less messy lol. I'm two stories away from finishing You Like it Darker by Stephen King and then next up is Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I've been wanting to buy a book for some reason lately but none of my authors have anything out yet! Such a struggle lol And nope no triggering here! Honestly the only triggering part about the last book would be if the author said that slavery had nothing to do with the civil war, but I doubt that's the case Thanks for sharing and take care! See ya on the next one
Hi, hello! Oh you should buy a book! Try a new author. let me know if you give in. LOL Yeah, I would also have issue if a book said slavery had nothing to do with the civil war. I wouldn't have put it in my online shopping cart if it had said that. I did lose two subscribers, so maybe they got triggered? Or maybe they were youtube bots? I always gain and lose 2 when they're watching me.
Some interesting books there. Happy reading you two!
Hey Nigel! Thank you for the drop in. I think one of my comments has been shadowbanned on your channel again. censorship has been doubledowned
That was so nice of your husband to buy you some books! I've read a few Pepper Basham books and liked them.
Thank you Linda. I thought so too. Usually I buy my books with the money I budget for it. So when he throws in extra money and buys whatever's in my bookcart, I'm always surprised. 📚🤗 How are you doing?
@@BookZealots - All is well in my corner of the universe right now.
@@Eldertalk Excellent to hear. 🤗
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the last book about slavery.
Thank you. I'm interested to see what arguments it uses. When I read Rebel Yell there's a part in it about McClellan saying he'd resign if Lincoln made the war about slavery. I have a book on Sherman that I'm wanting to read soon-ish too.
See, I liked The Warden. The Belton Estate is not one of the Barsetshire Chronicle books, it might be another series. I read all of the Barsetshire Chronicles and enjoyed them. Book 2, Barchester Towers, is my favorite.
You're right. I added a text saying the Belton Estate was a standalone. Did it not show up? You liked The Warden?! You're the only person I've head say this. Please share why and what you liked about it? I'd love to hear the affirmative of the book. 🤗 Maybe I need to give it another try? Kate Howe was the one who recommended The Belton Estate to me. Maybe because it is a standalone? I don't have all of the books for Trollope's Barsetshire series, but I do have book two, Barchester Towers. I'm glad to hear it's your favorite. Maybe I'll read it in October/Victober.
@BookZealots i may have missed the text. I like The Warden, but it's not a favorite. I was surprised to hear that you didn't enjoy it because everyone I talk to about it loves it. The Classics Reading Lounge Discord read it and everyone loved it. I actually really enjoyed the writing (though I think it's better in others) and found the church politics interesting. Again, it's not my favorite, but I did like it.
Oh no. Sorry for the confusion. My understanding was that you liked The Warden, but #2 is a favorite. I'm not familiar with The Classics Reading Lounge Discord. I've actually never heard of it until this comment. I liked Dr. Wortle's School. I felt the cheekiness was understated and the reader really had to be paying attention to the hypocrisy of one of the upper class women who was not behaving appropriately and the twists and turns of the story kept me guessing. I'm glad I had read that one first.
@BookZealots I do like The Warden, it just isn't a favorite. I like the writing and overall story is interesting. It's not the best of the series, but I thought it was good. I've only read the six Barsetshire books so far.
Biltmore is nice (I've been many times) but it's not my favorite place. One of my sisters has an obsession.
We started going to Biltmore before they built all of the winery and shops. Prometheus was allowed to collect chicken eggs before breakfast and one time we saw a lamb after it was born. It used to be more personable. Now it's a little run down and more commercialized. The last time we went was for Prometheus for falconry. It was amazing. That was in 2019. I was pretty disappointed with the shape of things. What is your favorite place?
@@BookZealots it has become very commercial. Which I understand, to am extent, because you can't keep it up without money. But still. It's rather disappointing that ticket prices keep going up and you get less every time. I don't know that I really have a favorite place. I do enjoy historic places, so Biltmore fits that, but I think I appreciate outdoors and nature more than buildings.
Bleak House does have some mystery elements. And I've been told you should read it first.
oooh, I didn't know that about Bleak House. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate that. 🤗
@@BookZealots it's a very good book, too. Definitely recommend it. And the miniseries from the early 2000s is very good.
I read _The Warden_ and have not moved on.
🤣 I understand completely. Was it the first Trollope book you've read?
@@BookZealots The first and only, and you understated my response to it. It’s a much beloved book on CZcams.
@@davidnovakreadspoetry Is it much loved? I'm missing those channels. Ah, you have not moved on because you loved it? I thought you meant you have not moved on because you didn't want to read anymore of Trollope.
@@BookZealots I have _Barchester Towers_ and planned to do it next, but _The Warden_ sapped my enthusiasm. I’ll give Trollope another try but I’m not rushing into it. 😢
@@davidnovakreadspoetry Barchester Towers is very different. I liked The Warden, but it wasn't a favorite. I laughed out loud reading Barchester Towers.
Cool video. Much love ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Thank you. You are so sweet and I appreciate you. 🤗💗💗
Thanks for the tag. This looks like a fun one! I enjoyed hearing the answers from both of you!
the creators are awesome and this is the second tag we've participated in that they've made. I look forward to seeing your books if you decide to do it. 😁
This is a fun tag! I hadn't heard about it yet, and it has some unique prompts. Clearly, you two have been doing some light reading - ha ha (WWI, WWII, nuclear war, gulags, etc.).
LOL Those are all unread books. But I do happen to be reading a WW2 book at the moment. I look forward to your books if you choose to do the tag.
Hi, hello and interesting tags and choices. I wish I had more to contribute, but I got nothin lol. I finished up the latest Riley Sager and it was alright, didn't hate it but didn't love it either. One big thing though, and this is real big for me, I started listening to the audio version of this during our afternoon walks. Spotify has audiobooks now so I figured I'd give it a shot and am hooked now! Might as well use something that I'm getting charged for anyway right? I'm doing the same thing now with the new Stephen King short stories book I'm reading now Thanks again for sharing and take care! See ya on the next one
Hi, hello~ Sorry for the delay. CZcams had the comment blocked. That's great that you're able to listen to audiobooks while you're out walking. 👍 Riley Sager really falls flat for me. It's such a shame. Some of his books have a good premise, he just doesn't execute the stories well. I've read some of my uncle's book that is basically a memoir, but because I don't have spotify, I couldn't finish the book. LOL Happy reading and stay cool.
Thank you for tagging me! I'll have to think on these questions before I make a video.
My pleasure. I hope you enjoy finding books for the prompts and I look forward to watching your video when you get to it. 🤗
@@BookZealots Thanks I'm prepping for the tag today!
For the cover I would pick The Amityville Horror the newest release with the House and the black and red cover. It just screams horror! I also would pick David McCullough book but I choose 1776. I love that cover. Interesting tag video -James
James, do the tag. 👍👍
@@BookZealots I might. I'm not big on doing tags but this one looks fun
@@Littlebiglibrary ditto that. A few years ago there were far too many tags going around and my son and I had decided we were going to concentrate on the books and not the tags. So it was nice to get a few this year that had more substance.
I have Storm of Steel and have been wanting to read it for a while. I need to get to it. And yes, there are three volumes of The Gulag Archipelago. You can get a single volume abridgment as well. I'm hoping to read volume 3 this year.
How long did it take you to read volumes one and two? I'm thinking I will slowly nibble on volume one so as not to be overwhelmed by the content.
@@BookZealots I went through them slowly over a few months each. I did volume 1 in 2022 and volume 3 last year.
@@CourtneyReads That sounds like a good pace. I think I'll do that as well. A three year project.
Aww, how kind of you guys. Thanks 🥰 I'm glad you joined our second tag!
Thank you for being so lovely. And we do your tags because they are worth doing. 🤗 keep up the great work. You are an inspiration. ~Erion
Phenomenal selections throughout (the emphasis on history is especially nice). Thank you so much for joining in on the tag!
Thank you for creating a good tag. I'm glad you noticed we did lean towards history. (a few science books). You're the only one to have commented on this. 👍 I appreciate your content and if it hadn't been for the first tag, I don't know how long it would have been for youtube to bring our channels together. ~Erion
Thanks for tagging me! What an “explosive” list of books! 😉
LOL you're right. And I am sure yours will be more pleasant and lighthearted, which is one of the reasons I tagged you. 🤗💗
Some heavy books there! Heavy water to carry! Certainly not boring books.
Lots of history, hopefully not presented in a dry/boring way. Thank you for tagging us.
That's an ominous pile of books you two are getting excited about! Thanks for tagging me. I think of all those books I'm more likely to read the one about Lafayette because I can use a little more humor in my life.
Definitely not a pile of books for humour. I hope you find some laughter and joy. 🤗
I agree with history - it's important to read from a variety of viewpoints. It always opens up a new thought and things you might not consider.
My grandmother told me to question everything, including what I was taught in school. Even something as simple as who discovered North America. It wasn't Columbus. But it also wasn't Amerigo Vespucci, and yet we're named after him. LOL I didn't learn that in school. I should have added a caveat though, because there are incidences of "sides" being more barbarous. Thank you for commenting and sharing. I appreciate it.
I read a good bit about Stonewall Jackson during college, and he was an odd duck, but a brilliant general. Valiant Ambition sounds interesting. Uncle Tom's Cabin was one of the most poorly written books I've ever read. Like you, after reading it I was confused why "Uncle Tom" is an insult, but I believe now that it is because Tom is such an idealized caricature, and he's not a real person.
hey John! How are you? I wonder if Jackson was a bit OCD? He was defiitely a rule follower. An "odd duck." Yep, that's about right. I think he was a better strategist than Lee, but that's just based on the knowledge I currently have of both of them. What do you think? Uncle Tom's Cabin was simplistic in it's writing, but it didn't bother me. I have dnf'd much worse modern books. I'm currently slogging through one at the moment. It's so bad. I have dnf'd books on the first page because the writing is so awful. What I liked what how she wrote the characters. A little over dramatized, but that's to be expected for the time period. But I was really surprised it's a book about faith. I never hear anyone talk about that. Uncle Tom is a real person in the sense that we should all stand up against evil, but I know what you mean. Thank you for dropping in. I recently bought Prometheus some Brandon Sanderson books. A trilogy, but I'm having issues with the third book. He's never read Sanderson and someone told me he writes clean books. Currently though, Trigonometry is consuming most of his hours. And I'm taking up the rest so we can clear the foliage on the borders of our property. It's hard work. I hope your garden is magnificent. We actually have some beautiful hydrangeas this year.
@@BookZealots I'm doing well. Jackson was best with a small, highly mobile, command. He would have struggled with a larger command. Longstreet was better with a larger, but slower moving, command and his corps was larger than Jackson's as a result. Lee certainly made mistakes during the war, but he knew how to get the best out of each of his commanders. I've not read any Brandon Sanderson. He's certainly popular, and I assume for good reason. However, I don't feel compelled to see what the fuss is about. My garden has done well.

Just subscribed today! Hopefully it will stay that way! 😂
Lovely to have you! And I like your sense of humor. LOL

I would really like to read a good biography of George Washington. Do you have any recommendations? I don't want a monster of a book but anything you recommend I will consider reading it. Thank you. -James . EDIT: What are the odds! I just watch a commercial on CZcams for a Special movie about G.W. I think it's called George An American.. something? It's on Fox hosted by Kesly Grammar?..I can't wait!
Hi James~ I do not know of a smaller book for GW. There are smaller books that have GW in them, such as Valiant Ambition, but that's not solely about him. If you watch the special on TV could you do a video reviewing it? We have no way of watching it unless it's free on youtube. LOL
I should know that a GE book would be big because he was such an awesome American. I'm not even sure when the film is going to be shown. If I can find a trailer for it I will link it because it will give you goosebumps! Just make you proud to be an American!
@@Littlebiglibrary I'll look for it. youtube doesn't allow links in the comments. Thank you and if you find a small book on GW be sure to share. 😁

For too long I have been falling down the rabbit hole of current affair books (books on race, dem vs repub garbage, etc) which I am getting tired of as it just feels like a bad echo chamber of judgements. Any good recommendations? Which books have been your favorite? Reply 0 replies @BookZealots I responded to her: Hello, you're looking for recommendations on which topic? Reply @WildernessTea • 7 minutes ago @BookZealots History @BookZealots 9 minutes ago @WildernessTea That's a very broad topic. is there a particular time period you're interested in or a particular topic in history? which book took you down your rabbit trail and you sound burned out. The book that caused me to tumble down that rabbit hole was A People’s History Of The United States. @WildernessTea Thank you for sharing. Here's the short list: Annie Jacobsen is a good author. I haven't read everything she's written, but everything I've read has been well researched. White Gold by Giles Milton was something I'd never read anywhere else. Jesse James by T.J. I need to try Ron Chernow(autocorrect wants to make his name Cheeto🤪). Ooooh! The Lafayette book sounds good too! I love all the Revolutionary era American history! The James Preston one also sounds good!
Defenders of the Faith is super dense. It was interesting in parts, but it covers a lot of history about a lot of topics, in a lot of land. Hahahaha, Cheeto! That's hilarious. Thank you for sharing that. From now on I'm going to think of Ron Chernow books at Cheeto books.
I want to read that Chernow book too. Oh, I love Washington and Lafayette!
For some reason I think Lafayette will be the easier read. LOL Have you read anything by Chernow?
@@BookZealots I haven’t yet. My mom had and had told me about the Hamilton one.
@@CandlewickLibrary Oh that's cool! My husband read the House of Morgan ages ago and really enjoyed it. (he's not a big book reader, so that's saying something. LOL)
Hi, hello and what a TBR! Yours is a lot more serious than mine for July. I finished the new Lucy Foley, Midnight Feast, this weekend and was very surprised with how much I enjoyed it! It's right up there with the Guest List and Hunting Party. I started the new Riley Sager, Middle of the Night, and now just waiting for it to pick up and get exciting. After this I'm gonna read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn which I'm pretty excited for since I've never read it, and it will be nice to prepare for James whenever that becomes available (12 weeks as of this morning!!) Thanks again for sharing and take care!
Hi, hello~ That is great news about enjoying Midnight Feast. Yay! I hope Sager doesn't let you down. Huck Finn is good. I hated the use of a specific word. It was really overdone, but the adventure and relationship is good. Hopefully your hold will come in sooner than 12 weeks. I noticed that happens sometimes. My son said he thinks the library fabricates their holds. At least, he thinks ours does. I have no proof and hadn't even considered it until he mentioned it. Because I started noticing, if I put an audiobook on my wishlist, it's always available, but as soon as I request it there are numbeorus people who want it and are now waiting for it? 🤷♀️ it does seem suspicious. Our county isn't that big. It's just a little suspicious. Especially since the books I request aren't the popular books and then suddenly 7 people are waiting for a book I have? I hope you enjoy Huck Finn. There was only one part I felt was tedious. I didn't like it in the movie either. Hope you have a great week.
I started reading Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass a couple years ago (I don’t remember if I finished the book) and goodness was it powerful. Obviously I knew the life of a slave was bleak, but I didn’t understand just how intense and heartbreaking their sense of hopelessness would have been (born a slave, live as a slave, die a slave).
I'd recommend reading Uncle Tom's Cabin next. I remember reading a book I found in Savannah, GA at a museum and it was very controversial but very thought provoking. I can only imagine how heart breaking it would be too, to be promised freedom when so and so dies, but then have that promise broken. I do not know that I could be like Uncle Tom.
