The cat featured in this video was not harmed. He did however pass away July 20th, peacefully in his sleep next to the now teenager who begged to bring him home for two weeks from the animal shelter 12 years ago.

where do you sell these kinds of camera? I'm having a hardtime selling mine. and what is your rule on selling the camera? -30% for example?

I am very close to ditching Sony too, I'm just not super heavily invested in the system anymore. But.... I am going Blackmagic instead

Thank you for understanding that a fast readout is not just about fast pans. The motion characteristics of global shutter film cameras is as important as the 24 fps standard, and even as important or more important than color rendition or gamma curves. Even the fastest readout sensors cannot replicate the look of a global shutter in my opinion. And this applies to even static shots where the camera is not moving at all, just the subject.

from what I understand with the FX30...do not overexpose SLOG3 unless you want a certain look...on the 120p expose 2 stops higher...

I would agree with everything you mentiond about fujifilm except the video AF which was good but really bad and unreliable now in both xt5 and Xh2s. Im thinking of moving to sony now

This sounds like a pretty decent upgrade! The stacked sensor is definitely a big deal! I also like the no blackout in photography mode when you use the E-shutter. I think this is another overlooked feature that can mean the difference between getting a shot and NOT getting a shot. I DO feel like at this price point, open gate should be standard. The Lumix Gh-7 has open gate and that's almost half the price. I guess no one can have it all.. I am curious about the cooling though. Even with the grip I am wondering what modes you can shoot in continuously. Overall though, this seems like a SOLID camera! Only time will truly tell! Great review! 👍🏾

I agree with fast sensors. There's something very important yet overlooked about "motion cadence", imo. If you take the Red Komodo as an example with its global shutter, it just has this "solid" look to the image. And when you see a camera when terrible rolling shutter you can see that too. Even if there aren't whip pans or anything, I really think you can perceive it without necessarily seeing it if that makes sense.

Quick question: Can I change it to zooming while holding "command" and not "option"? Great video!

Thank you for the 3-month update, Philip. It is highly appreciated. However, I feel that the Cougar Luxlim is way better and more durable keyboard than the Logitech MX Mechanical keyboard. The Cougar Luxlim is a low-profile, Red switch keyboard and the actuation is way better too, making for a great typing experience.

I prefer image quality so it’s definitely Fujifilm for me. Autofocus in video isn’t Sony or canon but I make it work and it’s not at the top of my priority list. I shoot weddings, and I use both autofocus and manual focus during certain moments through out the day. Outside of my weddings I mainly use mainual focus, cinema lenses & shoot in ProRes Raw unless it’s a certain type of project where I’ll just use F-Log2

Did you have any issues with logi options + crashing?

I love Fuji but until their AF is on par with Canon or Sony, it’s a toy.

Do you like the 16mm and find it has that 3D pop…. I have the Viltrox 13mm 1.4 so I’m not sure if I need it…

You've put together a really excellent analysis here. I have both of these camera, but haven't had enough hands-on time with them. BUT now I have a better idea of what to expect when deciding which one to pick up for certain shooting situations (if that ever happens anytime soon)...

Looking to get X-S20. I'll be using it to record my guitar/bass playing. I figured I don't need the more advanced feature of a Sony and Fujifilm is slightly cheaper.

The 7.0 firmware update has really surprised me a lot on my X-H2S when it comes to the AF. It's a very capable camera now either it be for professional work if you know it well. However, I think I'm gonna invest in a Sony as well, and still keep the X-H2S for photography.

Hey man I liked your video! I can see why you and others would prefer s-log 3, although my eyes can't see a significant enough difference to justify the extra workflow over say...several clips in a project. I would though, still like to know how you exposed it for future reference. Cuz I would like to warm up to its benefits that I may simply not fully comprehend yet.

Hey Phillip. I sold my Sony gear last year to go Nikon. All video work gone also... No one wanted to work with Nikon at all. I thought I would make my own documentary and CZcams videos. Instead, I've been working like crazy developing software, so even the CZcams and doco work I am doing has taken a back seat. Even thinking of selling my Nikon D850 and just sticking with the Z9's I have just for video. But that's a hard sell, because as a photo camera, the D850 beats the Z9's hands down, only because of user experience not with the actual features. So I understand, form over features. Sony is just a boring camera. :) Thanks for sharing your story!

Fuji is a great bit of gear that gets in its own way. I still love my XT4s. I don't want to get the xh2s until their autofocus justifies its price. But I don't let go of my XT4's either.

I had the fujifilm xt30 and I had to sell it at some point, and I always regretted it, to this day. I've been buying sony after a while (to try) and even though sony is good, i prefer fuji all the way: the simulation, the color, the feel in the hand, everything is more fitting me. Right now though i'll go with the xs20 (ill probably buy it in one month or two), the xh2 and xh2s are too expansive for what i'm doing, but the xs20 is a very good value. thanks for the video, your opinion was actually very interesting to listen to! :)

Yah, I use Sony the most, but like Fuji better.

i wanted to go to xt3 but like you said , not even the 4k60 can lure me into it since i do run and gun solo , unfortunately. maybe some day

Hey Phillip - many thanks for the video - recently purchased the X-H2 to go along with my X-Pro 2 - both are only used for stills. Bit of a random question :) Did I notice early on in the video that you are using a grip for your X-H2 - I purchased a SmallRig baseplate, however, I seem to have an issue when swapping out the battery as the SmallRig does not open fully. Just wondering if indeed you do use a grip, which one do you use - many thanks

My not having owned or used Fuji camera leads me to a conclusion, based on this video, that an inner desire for frustration with using it and disappointment with the results must be the main insentive to own one. Particularly versus the joy of shooting Sony and getting sharp photos every time. Self inflicted pain and suffering is not my thing 😅

Great video. I upgraded from a Sony ZV1 Mark one to the FujiXH2s. The auto focus like you say was incredible on the Sony but I just preferred Fuji colours. For me, the Sony look was just far too common and I wanted to go for something different

My DFD G9 has better AF than my X-S20 did.

You can always have both systems. You don't have to switch. In fact the more camera systems make us better.

I was so happy to get rid of my a7II for the X-T2 back when it came out. It was just a better camera all around in every department. Since then Sony has had so many tech leaps while Fujifilm not so much. I still like Fujifilm for the vibes, but I wouldn't buy a new one today. Second hand X-T20 or X-S20 if it was cheap. It's just a toy camera for me.

As I say to everyone welcome to the colour side not the Darkside. The colours in FujiFilm are the reason we love this camera system. I switched over from Nikon and I do still like my Nikon camera but I'm about to sell it but FujiFilm has the most amazing colour science. Yes they are a little bit tricky to use in certain situations but I am definitely not leaving FujiFilm and I love it. I've sold a lot more. Prints gained a lot more commercial work since switching over to Fuji I now have a GFX camera as well as my XT5 and it's a phenomenal system and yes you can learn how to use the auto focus better and they are upgrading it all the time but you'll get a lot of people who whinge but the colour science is amazing and it's not just because of the retro film simulations either even the RAW photos have a different look to them. The files are just amazing. You notice it straight away. the other thing that I have found with FujiFilm cameras that I really like is they get you to slow down you have to go through a bit of a process to get everything right especially with the XT cameras which have the dials because there's a certain process you've gotta go through to get what you need. I like that process and I embrace it if you are a running gun and you want to go out and shoot 500 photos, in two hours, don't buy Fujifilm and buy a Sony

That's it - I'm out. No Sony - no sub. 🤣🤣 I'm kidding! I'm kidding! I totally get your reasons for the switch and appreciate you taking the time to share them. If you aren't relying on the gear for client work, you can tolerate the shortcomings. For me, I gave up on Fuji because of several of the issues you mentioned and I just needed my gear to work. Sony has improved my end results dramatically. I used to think it was me and that "I didn't know how to use my gear" but nope, it was actually the gear. Keep rockin'!

Agreed, this has always been an issue with Sony hybrid cameras that had more than 24 mpx, the workaround I have found (at least with the A7IV) is to shoot APS-C crop mode. That way, the camera gives you an oversample 4.6K instead of the linespkipped/pixel binned video you are showing here. Why would anyone shoot 1080p nowadays? Space! Sometimes I have to shoot events that lasts for hours, and you would only need a 1080p deliver anyway. Something really funny I have found, is that the OG A6000 has a much better 1080p than modern flagship APS-C cameras.

S5 ii and sony. Love Sony's auto focus. But.lumix s 52 is actually amazing as well. way better value for the dollar! You can pick up a used s 52 For fourteen hundred bucks, and it will blow away anything in that price range.

History of Sony is movie-video. History of Fuji is photography. Both compagnies had other priorities. A reliable Autofocus is a no brainer for video, but was not for photography. That is why Sony has a huge development in autofocus.

can it fit a7c?

Sony user here. I bought a used XT20 earlier this year because I wanted to feel the Fuji vibe. I was searching for a decent Dad cam - and because Sony does not offer a real small EDC, I went for the Fuji. I liked the feel, but wasn't quite happy with some of the quirkier things. So I sold it and bought a used XT30 ii. I'm now in the process of realizing, that Fuji is not the real deal for me. I did not find a really cool recipe with good skin tones - and shooting jpg was the whole intention of getting a Fuji. Also the Autofocus is too slow for my two little kids. I think I will sell the XT30 again and will be going with the A7C ii. If sony would give us LUT support for stills ... this would be massive

I mainly got into Fujifilm for the video specs per dollar. I feel like they give you so many video features for the money. I started with the X-S10. I left my Canon m50 because of the limitations to 4k and the lenses . Canon really doesn't seem to care about their APS-C cameras . In my opinion. The RF-S mount is going the same way as the M mount. I am now shooting on the X-H2s and the X-S20. Along with a sony and Lumix camera. I'm giving the X-H2s some more time to get the camera together. If they can't then I will probably just keep the X-S20 and the other 2 brands that I have. I got the Lumix for it's video features. The X-H2s was that camera for me when it came out but, they've really made it less easy to use.

2024 I'm still shooting in 1080p, based in China, most people here don't what videos on PC, so what about a6700? I had 6400 and zv1, and have zve10, 6400 and zve10's 1080p are crap... zv1 is ok, been looking at 6700 these days, not sure if its 1080p is good or not...a7s3 is good, but can't afford it for now.....
