Video of the Hollidaysburg Sportsman Club (HSC) Outdoor IDPA match. Just when you think you have things figured out - poof! Not a great day shooting. Lots of issues and bad decisions coupled with tough stages and it gets rough on wheel gunners. I hate posting videos where I shoot badly, but it is all part of it.
Shooting a Smith & Wesson (S&W) 686 SSR .357/.38 revolver as Stock Service Revolver (SSR) using .38 special in the REV/SS division/classification.
Larger issues to discuss were the light primer strikes. I have had the problem in the past and use all stock springs, firing pin, etc. I have noticed the S&W to be finicky when it comes to ammo but this could have been a variety of things today. My ammo choice was PMC and Federal today and I know PMC has harder primers. Couple that with potentially dirty chambers and the high level of humidity and rounds may not have been fully seating in the chambers so the hammer fall seats the round the rest of the way in the chamber and acts like a cushion for the firing pin hit, so you get light strikes. Once I went to all Federal today, no more light strikes.
Issues started immediately - Stage 1 with a light primer strike which throws off the round count and we are off the races with a dumpster fire. I tried to rest the count moving forward to the next array but my speedloaders today were pulling rounds out when I tossed them aside, so you will see me scrounging a round off the ground to finish the stage.
Stage 2 - speedloader pulled a round out on a reload.
Stage 3 - put my speedloaders in the wrong pocket when I moved ahead, so it screwed up my reload at the window.
Stage 4 - light primer, throws off my count, forgot to put 2 on the last target. The dumpster fire is warm on this summer day.
Stage 5 - brain fart and went to a different equal priority target, wasting time.
HSC has a great setup for running match - lots of space and great bays and any and all props you could imagine. Look them up on Practiscore - through the summer they run outdoor matches 3rd Saturday of the month.
