Love RT Systems software! Their support is also first class. Like your spreadsheet method. Will do that on my upload.
What am I speaking about? I couldn't hear any sound from this video. Listened to other videos you uploaded but there was no sound on this one.
So with my yaesu ft710 where should I place my digital meter
That's a lot of money for a basically cheap 10 meter 5/8 antenna.
Switzerland is wet ! Lots of rain this spring with flooding in areas. Last year was quite the opposite. Yes, although I do love the Kenwood brand, I am leaning towards getting the Icom and just needed an excuse to make that final decision. Excuse provided !😂 It would have been nice to have the APRS but as you say, there is no perfect radio. I travelled to the US a lot professionally as well as for pleasure, always loved being there. You have pretty much everything ! Thanks again and keep making those great videos.
Hi Steve, greetings from Switzerland. Enjoying your videos on the Icom ID 52 and the Kenwood D75. Just got my licence a week ago and looking to get set up. Would love to have your feelings about these two radios (id52 and D75) like if you had to choose between one or the other ?? Cheers and 73’s, John HB9 IMG
Firstly, how is everything in Switzerland? I have visited this beautiful country when I was a child, (back in the 1960s) and actually got to have skied in the Alps! (Thanks for stirring up such good memories!) Secondly, the selection between the two radios is a personal decision; I have both. They are both about the same price and equal in quality, (in my opinion.) The only difference that stand out with me has to do with the battery power. I have had the ICOM turned on for over 24 hours, (monitoring) with significant battery power loss. However, the Kenwood D-75 still has an issue with the battery draining at a faster level. Also, the Kenwood will automatically power down after a set time and there is no way that I know of to override this setting. This is a "battery saving" function that, if you aren't paying attention, (the radio will start beeping,) will shut the radio off without you knowing it. Both are fine radios, but if battery life between charges is important, I would lean toward the ICOM. -Regards! Steve
Thanks PA3CRL
Why erase it?
Personal choice.
No sound ???
What are you speaking about?
They say not to have any wires run parallel past the surge arrestors. They worry that the non-arrested wires flashover to the "protected" lines. They make surge arrestor boxes you can run remote/control type wires through (terminal style, for single conductord or non-coaxial lines). I have one that's 4 wires in, 4 wires out, but they likely make larger ones.
Good point. I see an update on my part coming up. Thanks!
Thanks Steve - much appreciated! 73
Why are hams so f’ing awkward 😂? “Hey, Steve here…” 😂
Good video.
Glad you enjoyed it
You can combine multiple antennas onto one mast to conserve space, but do it cautiously. I also re-explore my ham shack grounding at my entry panel.
Can you show me how to set up the vox
I'll put this on my suggestions list for videos. Thanks.
So the version 1 is what I'm after I assume
Grounding for lightning strikes is useless. If you get a close hit, the voltage/current will roar up the ground to your gear. I was the project engineer for the installation of outside plant and switch at Mt Cook, bought into service Dec 1969. The latest type of lightening protection was used. A severe electrical storm in April 1970 completely destroyed all plant, completely destroying the specially earthed switch. $250,000 gear gone!!!
What does it do on turbo on vhf? I'm worried about the vhf/uhf side being weak?
Turbo is the transmit power, turbo being the highest.
@@K4SRF yeah I've heard conflicting stories of some, units producing 60-70 watts vhf and some barely put out 30. What's your vhf performance like
So love my 878 I’m considering selling my Yaesu ftm500 I use as a base to get a 578uv3 with the BT01 controller what ya think?
It is a matter of personal choice and which radio you are most comfortable with.
Outstanding
Please watch this grounding presentation from the ARRL and you will see everything that is wrong with your station ground. czcams.com/video/VvE570NPmmI/video.html I must confess that my station was like yours until the Dayton grounding presentation. A rude awakening for me. I find most hams are doing it wrong. Also you should use bushings where the coax enters the external surge protection box. The 8 GA wire should not be connected under the mounting bolt, it should be on a separate bolt through the copper bar. It should not go through the same knock out hole as the coax on the left., it should have it's own hole. The copper bar in the shack is a "bonding bar", not a ground bar and should not be connected to the ground rod outside the shack. 73 N2SQ
Watched it and plan on making some changes. I'll put out an "updated" grounding video later. Thanks for the input George! -Steve / '73 K4SRF
Much thanks. Helpful as my schooling.
Great to hear!
thanks, great job Steve 73 from kb2uew
You are welcome!
Just got the 850l. No dual comm???!?!? My d74a does so much more than this 850. I think yaesu could have done a better job. -Kd2qql
But does your D74 do the airbands, both receive and transmit?
Could you tell me how to turn on the the recive
Not sure what you are referring to.
TOO MUCH TALK, NO INFO
Excellent Does all this apply with the D75?
I think so, but contact RT systems for confirmation.
You stated this antenna does not cover the 80m band you might want to read the specs again as it says it does 6 - 80m ???
Thanks. I'll check.
thanks great job 73 from kb2uew
I have a bunch of them including (2) 7550e's , 6550 and a bunch of HT1250's. Excellent radios to use for Ham Radio, built like a tank. I had to buy the Mototrbo CPS back a few years ago, but it is indeed free to download now. You just have to create a Motorola account first. Too program them for wide on ham radio you have to get an Entitlement which is also free. They are well worth the investment if you like a high quality piece of equipment.
Concise and yet highly informative....thanks!
Great, Thankyou Sir 9V1KM KK7QGL SINGAPORE
Your voice sounds like Darren Stevens from the TV show "Bewitched".
DN is digital narrow. Not digital node. FYI
What are these antenna connector grounding devices called (or actual model numbers) at 5:10 ?
One question - I am planning on running RG213 Coax from a CB base station to a solarcon a99 antenna out back, through a buried conduit for much of the way. . for at least PART of the conduit that I will run RG213 COAX through, I will also have a flat Cat 6 flat ethernet cable running - this Cat6 will act as a connection for the surveillance camera system's feeds from the backhouse to a surveillance box I will have in the house. Do you think there will be any sort of 'static interference' if I run both cables in the same conduit piping? Should I run them in two separate conduits as a way to avoid any potential static interference? r will it fe ok if I ran both in one conduit?
As long as none of the cables are damaged, you shouldn't have any issues at all.
Very helpful thank you, G1EYW and 73s
Glad it was helpful!
The BT01 pairs with the D578UViii radio just fine, but then the BT01 display goes black, and the display on the radio just shows the radio is connected to an external device. I can't find documentation on how to unlock the BT01 so it displays the radio's information. Also, the little documentation I did find says the BT01's firmware needs to be updated. The info says I need to use an Android smartphone or tablet in addition to a PC. I don't own Android devices. Any tips on what to do about this? Looking for guidance.
Not sure. Check with whoever your purchased your device from.
Nice
You explain things just at the level and speed that i need to understand ... and right to the point. Thanks
7:07 excellent video .... especially for us new yaesu owners. Thanks
❤
7:40 I suggest editing this video. 73
Great video and explanation! Thank a lot for sharing your so good work and the HAMer experience.
I have a CB radio ranger rci99 n4 what's the best coax cable should I use thanks i run 18 ft cable.thanks
Personal preference. I would probably use RG213.
Hey, Steve, New ham here you answered my question, thanks. 73 KQ4QDG
I have a IC 718 which has a built in SWR but no Tuner so I have an ext. LDG 100. I wish to monitor power output only on the MFJ-822 swr/pwr meter. So the pwr meter would go between the tuner and the antenna, correct?
Yes.
Let me guess, Woodstock?
Great information. Thank you. ...and great shirt. 🙂
Digital ID good easy but how to connect to repeater and also find wsf repeaters while traveling!
I would pre-plan the trip and program accordingly.
