The length of the tubes need to be 6 inches and it is better to use cardboard tubes or reeds than bamboo because in fall they need to be opened and cleaned for storing the bees to be released in spring for mason bees or summer for leafcutter bees. If you don't they can get parasites and other mites and creatures that will damage and kill them and also transfer that to the other bees.
