TVS-Long Island Rail Road: Trains at Grand Central Madison
Originally known by its project name, "East Side Access", the LIRR's Branch to Grand Central Madison is a beautiful masterpiece of a terminal despite how late it opened. (It was supposed to open in 2018!) The plan for LIRR to connect to Grand Central dates back to roughly 1968's Program for Action Plan. The NYC Subway's 63rd St Tunnel (also part of the PfA Plan) was designed two lower level trackway for future LIRR use. In 2008, plans ramped forward to build this fabled railway finally directly connecting MTA's Two Commuter Railway Systems. The station has a different name than its Metro-North Counterpart to reduce confusion and denote where its concourse is under Madison Avenue.

TVS-Metro North Railroad: Trains at Campbell Hall Station

Welcome to Campbell Hall! Located in the middle of nowhere.....well that's true for more rural stations but this one feels especally rural. This station is surround by farms running along what was originally a freight bypass. Today the Port Jervis Line sees decent ridership being part of Metro-North system.....even though it really a NJ Transit line who happens to cross the border into NY. Chec...

The Washington D.C. Metro's Silver Line is one of those lines that puts the A Train to shame in terms of length. It's actually 10 miles longer. One would think an airport an hour away from the downtown core would be a perfect terminal for the line but nope, the line keep going deeper into Virginia to serve Ashburn Village. The weird part? The highway the line runs along has provision to carry t...

We are back in New York City on the busy IRT 7th Avenue Line. Built in the 1910s, this was part of the IRT H-System Expansion which brought subway service to the West Side of Manhattan. The 7th Avenue Subway Line was so successful that it led to the demise of the nearby 6th Ave El which was torn down 2 Years before the IND 6th Avenue Subway opened. Wyoming Station is your typical cookie-cutter local stop on the B Trai...I mean Broad St Subway but it has a nice little twist to it. It connects to one of 3 Trackless Trolley Lines in the city. The 75 Wyoming Line runs from Arrott El Station to Wayne Junction Regional Rail Station passing this station along the way. This is the ONLY spot where Broad St meets a Trackless Line as the 59 and 66 b...

The Staten Island Railway isn't as well known as the Wu-Tang Clan who also comes from Staten Island (Shaolin) or as well known as it cousin the NYC Subway whose across the bay. We're back on the NYC Subway this time on the 8th Avenue Line whose currently going through a bit of change. The near-50-years-old R46s make their final stand on the A & C Lines as newer R179 and R211 Trains take over. By next year the 8th Avenue Line should be automated with CBTC which means the R46 will breathe their last breath on the Broadway (Q) & (W) Lines. We see a lot of variety at this...

    Push-pulls don't run local services on SEPTA?

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains Před 29 dny

      No and there's a historical reason for that. The station stops on most of system are under a mile apart so it was always more practical to use MUs for their quick stopping and starting over locomotives who took longer to accerlate. The AEM-7s also didn't like the constant stopping and starting and would break down easier. Today, the ACS-64s can provide a better acceleration and stopping and starting but it too late. The mindset of running push-pulls on expresses is burned into SEPTA's brain.

    There is a DADSS (driver alcohol detection safety system) currently under development for road vehicles. If this technology ever makes it way to trains, the DADSS would disable to control stand or desk to prevent a train from moving if the measured BAC is over the legal limit. For example, if the DADSS is implemented on a North American freight locomotive, the DADSS would disable the reverser, throttle, and generator field switch to prevent it from moving if detected BAC higher than legal limit.

    4:33 If Clifton’s platform is too curved to make getting on and off the last car safe, the platform can be extended slightly north to allow the full length of the train to stop without dangerous gaps.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains Před 3 měsíci

      MTA considered it...why they never did it especially after the new Clifton Shop was put into place is beyond me. The R211s apperently have less of clearence issue since the cars are shorter so there will be no restriction from what I understand. Of course the ADA gets the final word on that argument so we'll see.

    • @anonymous3738
      @anonymous3738 Před 3 měsíci

      @@CaseysTrains Speaking of the ADA and platforms, all ADA-accessible stations should have no step between the platform and train floor, at least at the wheelchair boarding areas. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be safe for wheelchairs to get on and off without an assistant. So all stations that are accessible or being made accessible should also get their platforms leveled out to match the train floor to eliminate steps.
