this is Xbox gameplay, so I can only assume PC will have more interface. so there are combo abilities, just like freeze + shatter and various mage spell combinations in origins and your combos will be highlighted when available.

This game doesnt give you choices, it gives you attempts to choices that you can fail or pass. I pity you for putting this game in such high pedestal, when it really shouldnt have won game of the year.

i really hope we have more than 3 active/accessible abilities at a time. i really don't like the idea of having to pause my game every few seconds to play a different skill lol

Yeah, to me it looks like Inquisition + Mass Effect. I'm ok with this. I've been reading Tevinter Nights and it really does get into some great character and story building that we'll probably encounter in the game.

The magic-ajacent dwarf you met in Origins was Dagna, who returns in Inquisition as an enchanter and helps you with your research on red lyrium and the Fade. I always had a sense that she might eventually show magical talent herself, if dwarves ever get access to magical powers. I also think Sandal could do the same.

I am cautiously optimistic. Don't worry about dislikes, those people probably didn't even watch the video.

The first look at the combat doesn't exactly look very good to me. It looks more like the Arkham or Middle Earth games.

I think with the Astral Tadpole could had been used better. At the end final battle you have to fight Elder Brain and decide to make the sacrifice of becoming an Mindflayer. If it was me I would use Astral Tadpole with the Emperor and become Half Illithid as enough to defeat the Elder Brain. If you don't use the Astral Tadpole with the Emperor presence. You need to become fill illithid to beat Elder Brain.😊

They turned Solas into another incompetent villain like Corypheus. So I am not impressed with it. Looks like it's another Inquisition main story let down.

I'm super Sus if anyone who says they are fans of the series, then says about a demon "They have a lightsaber sword" in a hype way. All hype, with nothing negative to say, like the poor writing, or destroying a many year master plan with scaffolding, comes off as a bought and paid for opinion. If your lame answer is "It's the tutorial", then this was a poor choice for a gameplay showcase, and that should be a massive red flag for you. No integrity here, I'm afraid.

I am one of the people who has enjoyed every Dragon Age game. None of them are perfect, I have my criticisms of all of them, but I have also fallen in love with the story and characters in all of them and I feel like it will be the same with Veilguard. I honestly thought this day was never going to come so I'm so excited. But I'm worried about Varric though...

The combat seems like it’s seen an overhaul, which I'm okay with. The combat wasn't really an issue for me in DA2 or Inquisition, and this feels like shades of that, which will mean a more engaging combat loop. That's cool by me, and I wish we could've seen the other classes. I'm fine with controlling party members in a Mass Effect style way, because that will (in my opinion) travel well between PC and console without having to overly rework between ports. The animation is butter smooth, the environments and lighting are very impressive, if a bit too clean. And credit where it's due, I really like that Neve is actually walking on a (quite lovely) prosthetic leg. Still, I'm concerned. I really don't know that I like the stylized art for the game. Dragon Age has been leaning away from true Dark Fantasy since Inquisition, and I feel like Inquisition, for the most part, walked the line pretty well with lightening up enough to not scare off potential new players, but still stayed (mostly) dark enough to be enjoyable for me as a fan of the series (both games and novels). But the stylized art style means the characters aren't as grounded in reality visually, and some of the enemy designs have really just undermined the fear factor (the skeletal ones in particular). The artstyle, being so clean and stylized, really does feel more like Fable than Dragon Age. And I like Fable! But they're very different games. I'm also worried about the overall plot and the character writing, but I've been worried about that since I got the news David Gaider was leaving BioWare. He was the lead writer on all the games through Inquisition and he wrote the first three Dragon Age tie-in novels. And honestly, the initial confrontation between Varrick and Solas just didn't hit me like I think it should have. In the gameplay trailer's defense, it was showing off gameplay more than story, and we were kinda just dropped into things, so there wasn't that change to immerse myself in the story and gameplay before getting to that point, so maybe it'll be different when I sit down with the actual game. I haven’t totally given up hope for the game quite yet, but between that reveal trailer and the gameplay I’ve seen so far, I’m still very worried about this game. TL;DR: I have a lot of thoughts, and I'm worried they’re placing spectacle over storytelling. But I'm also totally open to being proven wrong!

this *seems* like my dream game. im going to support the kickstarter, but i hope they are very careful when choosing a publisher. i really dont trust publishers at all anymore. i feel like any other issues will be down to trial and error, theyre trying a lot of new things and new combinations so i dont expect them to catch lightning in a bottle on the first try.

I think people are negative for negativity's sake. I ignore the haters they are pretty BORING AF. if you don't like the game, do a better job of being a decent human and find a new one instead of complaining. nice review. The gameplay is also nice. and I love that all games change and evolve and expand with time and new teams etc. Peace

SUCCESS! Also, I am very curious to see their VGM at work and pick at it a bit to see what it can do and what'll mess things up. I didn't expect anything to do with generative ai. Right now it's got potential, in the future, but it isn't at the point it could actually DM a game for you. Hell, ChatGPT can't even keep straight if it's playing a game or running a game if you try to engage with it.

I'm super excited. I'm also concerned... my "Perfect" Inquisition save had me and Solas as best buds and it's going to be so hard to oppose him after the "Do you believe that I would do this if there were some other, better, option?" line. You're right Solas. I believe in you.

I saw some Whining about the combat, and that could just be because the dude was shit playing it, but I couldn't help thinking about the former rogue attacks that looked like a two-finger keyboard warrior just jabbing buttons, I couldn't help but think like is that what you want out of a game in 2024. Also, I kept hearing "Millennial speak, millennial speak" I guess we are garbage people because we can talk in complete and understandable sentences to the story at hand. The other issue is the joking around, like as if mfers are going to be sour faced stiffs all the time. Oh that and, the "but its colorful" like people didn't notice the vibe of inquisition. Eat me people.

I got to the VGM part, and honestly, I think this is something that needs to change for RPGs. In a sense, The Wayward Realms has to fall, so other RPGs that use VGM can fly. I'd rather see a change, whether it be good or bad, than the same cut and paste RPG.
