I am turning my ex British Army lorry into an expedition vehicle / overland truck. Before I set about getting the habitation box started, I am trying to ensure that the basic mechanicals of the truck are in good, reliable order. I am not a mechanic, just a DIY'er and so this video is just for entertainment purposes, and shows what I did, including my mistakes which you can maybe learn from. Enjoy! :)

HGV Downplating or not - Should you downplate your overland truck to get under the UK 7.5 ton limit?

Just my perspective on whether it is best to get your full UK class 1 or class 2 (C E, C) etc license if you are considering building an overland truck, or whether it may be best to have your 10ton (say) lorry downplated to the 7.5 ton limit (which means if you are a certain vintage, you can drive a 7.5 ton vehicle on your car license if you have grandfather rights). Got these for the MOT, yes. Just in time too.
Keep it simple with a 7.5t and then if you like it and then upgrade to bigger truck than can pull a trailer.
I don’t have grandfather rights, but there are rumours the dft are looking to give everyone the c1 licence (7.5T) in thier licence again like as pre 1997. Personally I was planning on taking my c licence because I’m pretty sure I can’t keep my overland project less than 7.5T. I just don’t think it’s realistic. That said, you talking about taking full hgv (artic) has given me food for thought….

Just found the group and joined I set up lorrylife campers uk for all us lorry campers because of same silly rules on daf group 😅
