How PostHog operates
James Hawkins is the cofounder and CEO of PostHog. PostHog is a platform to analyze, test, observe, and deploy new features.
This is the second time James has been on and the episode is mostly about how they run PostHog.
It's a pretty unconventional approach - probably because James thinks very deeply about how organizations should operate.
What we discuss:
How PostHog hire
His approach to one-on-one meetings
The role of engineers in product development
The impact of open source projects on PostHog's success
A surprising secret to success (fun)
Importance of listening to developers

I've only seen videos of tldraw with GPT and they look like magic, great way of using the web to build the web!

True! I wouldn't trust anyone who doesn't know Aaron.

"promosm" 😢
*this guy realized people are still stuck in the past 😂 There are many companies who realize the power of streamers and youtubers making content. That is the trend of peolle getting sponsored snd making theirnon sket of the game tough some companies require you to hit specific high notes like raiding shadow fort. There are people who stream them making games. How about Star Citizen? Mean while Suicide Swuad the game is not doing so hot 😂 Palworld, Lethal Company and Helldivers 2 are killing the market rach right agter another! Like Palworld the devs added guns so it would sell in the west 😂 brilliant! They knew theur market well haha... pokemons with guns 🎉
Idk but marketing includes someone who knows everything about that product and the market it serves or is situated in. Often locally. Not a one size fits all but, I'd like to see this suggestion in action and succeed, that'd be awesome.
Amazing guys, thank you for sharing it!
Thanks for taking the time to write Rafael, glad you enjoyed it!!
Zeno is fantastic. I'll try anything he builds or works on.
20:58 I admit I would go that far 😅

Discovered this tool two weeks ago. Now it's the best tool of its kind for me. Its awesome. Please dont stop developing it. It has so many cool things comparing to others.
Great video, thanks! Was working on improving my email sequence today actually. One thing I was wondering (or didn't get): are you sending the emails manually via your email client or do you have an email marketing program that handles the sequences for you and analyzes opening / click rates?
Thanks Vincent and good question, I'll ask Kilian!
I use an email marketing program that handles the sequence yeah, but it’s all wired so replies end up in my real inbox.
@@kilianvalkhof Thanks - which one are you using and how happy are you with it?
@@vincentdelitz4604 I use Sendy with AWS SES, which is also what I use for transitional email. It does what I need it to do so I’m happy.
Signing up right now. Thanks for the interview!
Nice! Hope you find it useful too
Nice to see you proud moment for us
❤❤❤
Man.... I think I'm crazy... but as a CTO of a quite new startup I have a strong opinion that we're using the best tech stack of the entire world! With two products our web applications are built using NextsJS / Vercel / Tailwind / Supabase / Supabase Auth / Supabase RealTime / SupabaseJS V2 / Turborepo / Storybook / A single design system for both products and PostgREST with some python scripts in a linux VM. In a team of four devs we built two solid products in 15 months without touching AWS console or having to hire a devops or even a DBA..... It's crazy...
A great listen! Thanks for all the insight, Jason and Jack.
Thanks so much, Stackbit, appreciate you taking the time to comment and am glad you enjoyed it. Let us know if there's anything else you'd like to see!
Thanks for having me on the show, Jack! 💜
Thanks Jason, I just watched the episode again, I think every DevTool startup needs to hear your advice.
Hey thanks a lot for this interview - really helpful and clear
@@TodePond Thanks so much TodePond. Glad it was helpful & clear - Jason is such a pro at explaining difficult topics. Let us know if there's any other type of content you'd like to see!
Just a note to say that we couldn't see each other during this one. We had a patchy connection so we recorded without streaming the video to each other (only saved locally). Just in case you caught me staring off into space!
