Anytime you see the project-picker-upper attachment on the back of my van, you KNOW I've found another cheap project, whether I need it or not! Will I get this vehicle to run? Watch and find out.

I'm using wrong parts to make a Super-X, a Charger! #Excelsior-Henderson #Stator #Regulator #Biker

I have an Excelsior Henderson, and it's not a Charger. Nope, it's a bike. With a problem. I try to fix it with the right, but used, and unknown condition, parts. Nope, still broken. So I end up fixing it with the wrong part ... from a Victory motorcycle. Hey, if it works is it really the wrong part?? I'm going to cool the "Rusty Grenade". What does boiling have to do with it? #Air Conditioning #Ford
zhlédnutí 977Před 21 dnem
It's hot. And the "Rusty Grenade" doesn't have working air conditioning. Yes, I should probably wait until I do a V8 swap to fix it, but the way I procrastinate, Rusty won't get a V8 for 46 years. There's no refrigerant in the system, so I don't know if it has leaks. R12 has become unobtainable, so I'll just go ahead and use the wrong refrigerant. And boil water. This is the 7th and last installment of the twin KZ440LTDs conversion into one functional "Adventure Bike". And let me tell you after all this running around and modification, I am exhausted! Fortunately, so is the bike! I can now take it out and not worry about the exhaust getting caught up on rocks, logs, or other motorcyclists on the ground! Yay me, but I did get some help. And then I killed...

I'm at it again, throwing more of the wrong parts at this project. Surprisingly, some actually fit! Well no, not without a little butchering. That's the plan! The more the better.
Oh you def need it lol.
I guess it depends on how you define the word "need", LOL!
@2coolwheels139 as a addiction
Respect brother! You've got the skills and knowledge! Good thing you're not made of wax. You'd be a puddle on the carport deck. Especially this time of year when the dew point/humidity level is above 50/20. People down south will say 20% humidity level is nothing but it matters when it's 105+. Mister's can help but not while working on machinery. Good find with this bike but only because you have the ability to fix it. Yes, a clearance sale is probably due even though it can be hard to part with any of them. No doubt you would quickly find new projects to replace them though.
Yes, I probably would. You know me well.

Who dusted off that old name?
If you are referring to the name "Excelsior-Henderson Super-X", that would be Dan Hanlon. If you are referring to the name "Charger", that would be the city of San Diego.
So glad I found this channel! Great content and fun to watch!
Thanks! Glad you like it, that's the goal.
I should have figured you'd find some good but cheap shelves.
Well, you know me! And these are pretty heavy duty.
Atleast you won't have to bend over so far to pick your buckets up! I mean after they are on shelves!
Indeed. I'm tired of my back lecturing me on organization! My back will be much happier now.
When you’re a proper hoarder you definitely say I have the part IN STOCK!!
Try a micro torch on the connector when they won’t separate. Don’t melt it just warm it up
Good idea!
would love to see that vacuum pomp!!!!and is there 16 bar of pressure in that small r 134 bottel????? anyway cool video!!!!!!!!
It was the cheapest, air-powered vacuum pump they had at Hobo Frate! I think it was $15, but it works great. And I don't know what pressure those cans hold, that's a good question.
so if you lift the car 2000 feet in the air, you would get the same effect?
@@russriley3005 Good idea, I'll try that next time!
Reusing the old receiver dryer? I assume you could not get a new one? Generally a big no-no!
@@BobbyFranco Good point. However, I didn't know if there were leaks, or even if the compressor was any good. So I put it together with the old accumulator just to see if it all works. I can always replace it later, now that I've assessed the system. (Technically, it's an accumulator when used with a "pressure-cycling" system, and it a receiver/dryer mounted by the condenser when it's an "thermal expansion valve" system.)
Great video. I have one thing ill mention. I did the conversion on my bronco. I didnt change to green orings. It only lasted about 6 months before the charge was gone. Some people do it and dont swap and never have issues. I had no leaks held vaccum for many hours. Seems like the dodge i did leaked off after about 6 months too. Idk i sold it but i remember new owners saying something about it.
@@jeffreyrigged Yep, I used the green orings!
@2coolwheels139 awesome. Idk If you swapped them in video. Costly mistake I made actually.
@@jeffreyrigged I probably should have mentioned them, but alas, didn't

@@2coolwheels139 🤣😂😇 Right! Good info on switching to 134a.
Cool man.
Good music is appreciated, very good actually. Although I would have preferred to hear the performance of the bike on the road. But besides that, it is gratifying that a good machine is rescued from scrapping. I say this after having seen a couple of acres in a place in Alabama with hundreds of motorcycles scattered rotting in the open air. And keep having fun like a kid doing what you like most, so you won't let old age catch up with you. All the best.
@@LNippur I'll keep that in mind for future vidyas!
A GS500E is by no means a sports bike. I learned to ride on one though, they are quicker than most cars. lol I also did a top end rebuild on one, it was very simple, which was nice.

Indeed! Gotta try new things every now and then. This time it actually worked out.
Just in time! I've got my DRZ400S up for sale now. 😁 Nice job Mike! Great skills and patience. What was the cause of the 'no spark' issue? I was a little surprised at how this twin sounds a lot like my thumper DRZ.
No spark was due to my own error. That system uses a single coil to fire both spark plugs in tandem. If one or the other plug is disconnected, it opens the circuit so the other one cannot fire. In other words, I left one of the spark plug wires off!
Watching you build this exhaust system I wasn't sure if it was going to work but hey! It came out nice. Like the old expression goes, 'if it works, is it really a bad idea?'.....Good video, Thanks!
Yeah, I was pretty happy with it being my first attempt at a custom exhaust. I appreciated the good feedback, that gives me an excuse to make more vidyas! (You have been warned.)
welding is something ive never done. I need to try it soon.
I learned on an acetylene torch, and can weld pretty good with gas. But arc welding is self taught, and not very good. I am getting somewhat better, however. Just not good enough for an exhaust system.
@@2coolwheels139 I need to learn mig to patch stuff
