Transforming My Old LandCruiser's Interior and Adding a New 12V System! Bushtech, Redarc, and Takla
Our Roam Apparel Competition is coming to an end on the 7th of July 2024, head to the link bit.ly/RoamApparel to buy your favourite shirts, post a picture on instagram in your new shirts, and tag @roam_overlanding and @Roamapparel.shop to stand a chance to win a Garmin Instinct 2S Solar!
With the Landcruiser running great, and confidently taking on the open road; I felt it was time to start making the 100vx's interior space a bit nicer, and adding some functionality to the vehicle so I could more easily hop in and take it on some fun overlanding trips! I attempt not to go overboard on the project but I think coming to terms with the fact I am a geek that loves all the gadgets! But I do also love getting to test and try new equipment so the cruiser has become a slight guinea pig for some new products! The journey starts off at Takla Products, to install some brand new River Rock seat Covers, Transmission Tunnel Cover, Dash cover and Takmats. We Then head to @BushtechCanopiesAccessories to build a lightweight storage system in the rear, where we look at their fridge slider initially designed for the Jimny. Building a lightweight sleeping setup in the back of the cruiser became the new agenda before heading to Tankwa Expo to display the vehicles for Terrain Tamer and Bushtech, with crazy weather almost blowing us away we wrap up a windy expo and get back to working on the interior of the vehicle! I reached out to Carplaysolutions about testing an android headunit of theirs, so after getting my. hands on it, it was time to install it and start to test it out a bit! With the interior coming a long great, the feel of the vehicle was really starting to get me excited! I decided on a return trip to Joburg to commit fully to the vehicle and we began from scratch again in the rear of the vehicle, putting Bushtech Canopies, latest SUV Drawersystem and installing some of the latest 12V gadgets from @REDARCElectronics including a SUV Wiring Kit with a 40A BCDC Core Charge, TVMS Rogue, Smart Battery Monitor and a Redvision Display, to really maximise the stepped approach to being able to upgrade your 12V system over time with Redarc most of these Redarc Products are Available locally in South Africa through 4x4 Megaworld. Over all I am so impressed with the setup and cant wait to get out and use it!

Epic stuff Adrian. Love the content and it's nice seeing how the build is coming along!
How about replacing the engine and gearbox mounting ?
Good things to do at this age for sure! I have inspected the dif mountings and they seem alright; will need to check engine ones still 👌🏻
@@RoamOverlanding definitely 💯 need to replace the engine and gearbox mountings, they’re notorious for cracking at this age and km of the vehicle
Some awesome new additions to the van....., looking good Thanks for the share 👀🤙👍
Great video as always, Adrian. I'm interested, though I also have a 100 series with the bonnet mirror, and I thought that a bullbar would destroy that extra bit of visibility you get from the nose of the vehicle. Do you still have full frontal visibility, or does the bar significantly reduce visibility?
It does effect it; but honestly I don’t know what it’s like without the bumper 🤣 I just like being able to see if I’m in the parking properly or not or near a pavement 😂😂 I can imagine how good it would be to see how far the bumper is from a wall too, but yes the bull bar blocks it
What brand battery is that?
It’s an Enertech 👌🏻
@@RoamOverlanding Thank you.
@RoamOverlanding please share Enertec model and spec. Looking for a slimline unit ourselves 👍🏼
How about a Raptor coated Cruiser seeing you need to do sone touch up
I’m not personally a big fan of the raptor costed vehicles
So when is the next trip with "Old Soldier", and your uncle?
Very good question!
Hi guys. Try to have a look t the film portrait of a tree. Amazing life in boabab trees
Hi bud. What rims are those on the LC 79? (Looks like Fuel Covert) - if so do you know where I can I get a set?
Hey buddy! I think you’re right, best chat to Onca4x4 and see what they’ve got
What happened to the Engel fridge? They are the best...
It’s still around! Will probably go back to the Hilux! I needed something with dual compartments 👌🏻
Super exciting times Adrian. Looking forward to the evolution of both rigs. Safe travels man🤙🏻
Thanks Goeff! It’s been a lot work! But also really fun! 🤣
I was wondering what made you go for the Landcruiser 100 and not the same 105 series that you test drove? 105 has the solid front axle like my trusty 80 series?
All down to the engine for me to be honest 👌🏻 1HDFTE drives like a dream!
Hi. Where did you buy the slimline battery?
Its an Enertec battery
Nice to see the old girl coming along as an Overlander 😊 Takla products are super nice! What is the cost of the Redarc system like that?
Starting from about 5k for the charger up to 12k for the rogue I believe best to check 4x4megaworlds pricing
Amazing interior! What did that cost you approximately? If I may ask 😁 from Takla
The River Rock range is a bit more premium than even the signature range, so I think it was around R20,000 in total for all the stuff we did, including which you dont really see here a bootliner for under the drawersystem. They are also fully specced seat covers will all the possible pouches, water bottle holders and map pockets. So its alot!
Yours is the best information video I've seen. Thanks very much mate (from Sydney)
Glad it was helpful!
Congratulations. I own a 105 and love it to bits. Great vehicles but they are getting old so you will eventually end up going through the whole thing. Its addictive and very expensive but I'm happy for you ❤
Thanks Tiaan! Yup! My alternator packed up today 🤣 love it but it’s getting expensive 🫣
What size tires did you fit ?
Get a longer siphon pipe and leave your jerry can on the roof. Much easier
Bring the Jimny to the US. I would love to have this for a weekend truck
I adore your bravery. I can’t sleep on that tent without a rifle in my hands.
Plz consider to increase the videos you share waiting for new video for 2 to 3 weeks is very hard.. why don't you consider daily vlogs
My 07 low milage 1hdfte vx 100 series is awful .. 😉
Worst vehicle ever ;)
What is 1 2 tyre pressure in PSI or Australian standard? is that mean 12 psi for good ride in offroad???
The whole point of a jimny is”less is more”. You’ve bought too much stuff. Love your vids tho bro 👍🏻
Bore up turbo upgrade
Turbo upgrade
Great video, thanks ! I still hesitate to buy a Jimny - three questions : 1. Do you think that it will be reliable in the long term (if engine oil changed every 5000miles / 8000km) ? Especially gearbox and engine ? 2. Can you fit a high lift jack in the rock sliders holes ? (and will it hold the vehicule without breaking) 3. I like the fact that you did not opt for 235 tires. Too much weight. Still happy with 215 tires ? :) Greetings from south Switzerland !
Two thoughts from an overlander. First, if you do your preventive maintenance yearly, you may have been able to save a lot of money, equipment, and time. Second, buy an FJ Cruiser and you’ll avoid many of your Hilux problems.
Dankie vir die inspirasie, het my Hilux bestel en besig met my bushtech canopy en ekstras. Die awning is volgende op my lys! Hierdie vuurmaak plek is kort op sy hakke! Baie baie dankie ❤❤❤
Lekker man Tobias! Geniet dit!
We are so enjoying watching your travel videos - Thank you so much for sharing your travels with us all Awesome photography✨ This one reminded us of our Naminia trip many years ago - such lovely memories, sure makes us want to visit Namibia again 💚🇿🇦
Thank you for watching!! 🫶🏻 glad you could reminisce a bit with us!
Do we need solenoid with green box dc25?? Just want to make sure the green box won’t drain my crank battery. Someone please
The green box already has a dcdc in it which is voltage sensitive so will only kick in when your front battery is charging. But bear in mind that includes ac/dc charging not just the alternator. If you need to charge the front battery make sure to switch off the green box
The 100 series and 105 series Landcruisers are arguably the best (80's are maybe a bit tougher, but not as comfortable or nicely appointed as the 100/105) Landcruisers ever made. Sure the Troopys have their place too. Anyway definitely a great choice of a 4x4 or overlanding vehicle. And the 1hd-fte is DEFINATELY THE Best Toyota Engine ever produced.
I rate the kzte engine
Great episode. From Australia and enjoying.
So great to hear!
Did you sell the Hilux? Last video of the hilux you were doing a lot of work on it.
Nope! The Hilux is still alive
Have you had to do any work at all on the engine? If not, at what mileage do you expect to start looking at bearings etc? Is the turbo still original, or has it been upgraded. I have just bought exactly the same with 385k, so I am very interested!!
Haven’t gotten to the engine yet; but I think pretty much everything is super standard
Thanks for sharing this project, hopefully we will see a video of the cost. I thought of buying one, fix it up and use as a daily driver.
So far it’s R130k on the vehicle and about R100k on tires and parts
@@RoamOverlanding Thanks for that, I estimated around R200K
How much did the CV's set you back for the 100?
Best to check with the terraintamer team, I’ve been running around in Germany this past week so have been slow to get back
@@RoamOverlanding Was just wondering, the 100 is a great car. I have the 120 (Prado) myself with the V6. I can imagine parts on the 100 being similar in price, perhaps a bit more. You can't go wrong with the Land Cruiser platform.
Loved "the red headed step child" comment 😂 I enjoy watching your videos so much! Thanks for keeping things interesting and informative. Cant wait to see the Land Cruiser evolve further!
Hahahah! Thanks for watching!
Hi I am in Limpopo I love ur video more especially on the product TT I think it can work for my bakkie suspension and rear shocks may I pls get contact No.'s for TT in Pretoria please thanks
Your best contact is TTG in Pretoria east; just google them and you will get them 👌🏻
Hi Adrian, thanks for sharing all those details. It's the unloved part of overlanding. Is there a reason for not using a cyclone filter on top of the snorkel? I always thought they are specially designed for those dusty conditions.
Good question! I would like to get one; however not all the dust in question is being pulled through the snorkel, some actually gets in through the box itself in the engine bay; but less dust is less dust, so dont be surprised if you do see a cyclonic head on soon
@@RoamOverlanding Thanks for the reply. Yes, it seems not really common throughout the CZcams overlander community to use such a filter. Happy Overlanding 😊
Did you change the Universal Joints on the drive shafts ? They are extremely important..
Not yet; will get there soon when we do the central drive line components
Such a cool build 😍 right now im building a gen3 jimny into a solo camper 🥳
That should be fun!
100 series are awesome land cruisers. One thing to be aware of is the brake master cylinder. Lots of info on MUD about it.
Thanks for the info! I have done some extensive research on that for sure 👌🏻 I do my checks pretty regularly to make sure it’s healthy
nice video thank you
Ive got a feeling this build has it's centre of mass too high. I mean all petrol and water and tent on top supposed to be 30 kilos max.
Very true
Hi, love the 100 series video! Any plans to work on the engine any plans for her?
We will definitely be getting to the engine soon, I’m just away in Germany from tomorrow for a bit and then I’ll be back to continue the project 👏🏻
@@RoamOverlanding lekker enjoy!
Nice one, enjoy your journey!! However, yes, I think you bought the wrong one...should have been a 105 haha :)) The VX's are great cars, I just think the solid front axle is better for the rough rides... That VX will make you smile, have a blast with your new cabbie!!
I would have grabbed a 105; but I just can’t do the 1hz life, and the efi is too expensive. Plus I picked up the 100vx for R130k, a deal that meant I could keep my Hilux and get the cruiser, which just makes so much sense 👌🏻 and I am over the moon with the 1HDFTE a pleasure to drive, plenty of power and the fuel consumption isn’t too bad!
This guy doesn’t hit hard 4x4 tracks he does overlanding the IFS is better for touring versus hard 4x4 tracks.
@@RoamOverlanding Enjoy the Crooza mate, make it yours!!!
@@kaidenchetty4572 maybe...but long drives on bad "touring" roads will also take their toll on an IFS setup, and electronics, etc etc. Anyway, all a matter of choice...whichever way, grab something, get out there and explore without too much of a plan!!!
Does it have a1hdfte engine?
Yes
What engine do you have in your 100 series? Have you done any work on the engine??
No work just yet, that will be coming in a couple episodes time
Look fwd to those episodes!!
