- Waking up on our final morning in Khwai we awoke to African Wild Dogs across the river from our camp at Magotho. The previous night we had leopard and hyena come through our camp, but today we say goodbye to Louis and Klara, the Dutch couple we rescued from the river a couple days before. Our journey today takes up into the Chobe National Park for an Overlanding Adventure! We 4x4 through the thick sand of the Savute and make our way to our camp at Savuti, but not without Roelf picking up a puncture on his Landcruiser 79. The two Hilux’s arrive unscathed and we rest up around the campfire and get ready for a day of game driving the next morning.
Our first self drive safari day out had us learning the lie of the land, finding the awesome Baobab Gallery where I shared some of my thoughts on the BushTech Canopies Tray system. We then head into the Savuti Channel to explore for Rock Paintings, where we found a baby elephant and his mother along the way. We hiked up to find the bushman paintings with an incredible view over the Savuti Marsh. We returned to camp for a nice lunch before heading out later for another game drive, this one was packed with sighting from wildebeest to majestic mating lions, elephant and black backed jackals, this is what Savuti is all about! The next day we would explore the Cheetah plains, the Quarry Hill 4x4 track and visit our lion friends again!

Hahaha brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻
Cannot believe what Savuti looks like these days. When I was last there in 1969-1971, there was absolutely nothing there no designated campsites, no ablution facilities, certainly no shop and not even a gate into Chobe except a clear space on the sand dune overlooking the channel, where elephants. The road over the sand ridge was brutal with very thick soft sand, the marsh road was tough also with lots of thick black mud and endless potholes caused by half dried elephant footprints. On the other hand the the game was great. For us it was a great adventure to get through from Keane to Maun. Compared to your set up our gear was incredibly basic. Series 2 Landrovers, simple tents, lots ot extra gas can, water can and spare parts plus three spare tires per vehicle. We had no radio, cell phones or navigation systems and the maps were totally outdated but somehow we made safely. To say the least it was a fun experience.
Thanks for sharing your trip I have really enjoyed it
That sounds like a wild experience! 😂 you were crazy!! It must have been quite something to experience that’s for sure!! 🤭
The provision of the 3 waterholes changed the dynamics of animal migration altogether.
It's the huge zebra and wildebeest migration that hasn't changed that much.
The dead trees remind me of Hlane National Park in Eswathini which were destroyed by fire.
Another good episode. Great work capturing videos of animals in their natural habitat. The lion clips were amazing. Loved it. Instead of changing your flat tyre w/a fresh one, weren't you able to repair it using plugs from a tyre puncture repair kit? Then continue using it while off-road? That way you can save your fresh tyres when you're back on tarmac (or if you get a more severe puncture).
We could have, but it was a brutal day, tempera we’re running high and we just wanted to get to camp. Once we returned back home they tore shops said it was not possible to fix the tire. We ended up changing the whole set to a set of muddies instead because they’re just that bit tougher
Stuning bush paintings! Did you get to Tsodilo Hills? What a stuning area! Defijitely bucket list stuff! Do you think a Mahindra S6 Karoo 4x4 Pikup will make it? Have Terrafirma tyres and will equip with a steel winch bar and snorkel plus Bushtec canopy. It's never let me down in my Catchment Management, Irrigation and Mining work. Very overgrown, rough and wild bush areas...
Savuti is definitely on our bucket list after watching this. Truly amazing!!
Awesome episode and seeing lions live putting up a show. Great sightings. Keep up the good work
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice to see all video . Keep exploring nature.....Love from Pakistan 🇵🇰.
Wow what an amazing siting with the lions and elephants. ❤
It really is!
You are all living the africa dream! Lycky you all! Love from cold Sweden 😊
That Sand Ridge Rd sounds a lot like the Gibb River Rd in Western Australia. It (Gibb River Rd) has been known to loosen even the toughest and biggest bolts on vehicles. Bullbars (amongst other things) have been know to fall off a few 4WDs while travelling on this road. An indication on how bad the corrugation is. As for the puncture, I would have simply plugged it, then continue using it while off-road.
It would be interesting to compare some of the roads! But one would need the exact same vehicle… I wonder if it could be done one day 😂
Incredible trip. Glad to see team work, that you understand and show the value of traveling in a group.
It's amazing that one can to this day drive around remote parts of Africa and still see these majestic beasts in the wild.
Thanks so much for sharing your journey.
It is an awesome gift that we still have wilderness like this!
Another fantastic production Adrian, your naration really is next level. Will rewatch this episode with the family. Safe travels 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it
love that follow me wild horse song in the backround❤❤❤❤
Watching from Canada. Beautiful Photography
thanks Adrian, great to see more people getting out and enjoying the outdoors and roads less travelled more often
Absolutely
Awesome content as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
@Bruce keep up the good work
Hi guys. Try to have a look t the film portrait of a tree. Amazing life in boabab trees
those cars are fully setup like them..u make camping look so easy and relaxing
I really enjoy watching you guys, you inspire me
Nice trip..already missing Chobe 😢
Super episode. What a life.🥂🍻👌
This Buds for You!
I love your channel. I rep in Botswana(the whole Botswana). I go there at least once a month. The driving gets to you. If I may make a suggestion. Get yourself impact sockets, they are usually black in color for your impact wrench. You might find the chrome sockets crack after a bit of use. The wall thickness is a lot thicker.
Thanks man! Yah I wasn’t expecting it to get so much work! 😂 but thanks for the heads up, we will look into it. For now it’s only really used on our trips, I think it would be different it was working in a workshop every day type of thing 👌🏻
Good channel, nice video
Brilliant episode. Cant' wait for the next one.
Just awesome thanks and very inspirational
Awesome photography, apt music and great watching
Glad you enjoyed it
This was fantastic. The wildlife sighting was just beautiful.
Your vehicles are really built tough, the only thing I would do different is to upgrade to proper race shocks.
Such a wonderful experience you had there and you got to see one of the famous male lion Sekoti( the one with the short tale), son to the most famous ruling male lion called Sekekama, Sekekama the lion which ruled over there at Savuti Marsh for a decade now with his brother Torn nose, together they ruled a pride called the Marsh pride. Sekoti(short tale) is there one who is believed that he will soon take the throne together with his siblings from his ruthless father and uncle.
You are giving us such a great content, it feels like we were also there👌
That’s such an amazing story! I didn’t know anything about them! Thanks for sharing the history!
Stunning story! Thank you! We really need to visit this place more than ever now! St. Lucia where I grew up seems tame now compared to this.
Finally a new Video. Awesome as always. Thanks a lot 😉
Glad you like them!
Another awesome episode! Thanks very much for sharing and can't wait for the next one!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome episode, Savuti looks super special!
It is definitely the place you get a trailer setup and just bunker down for a week or two
im from Maun,Botswana and i hope you are aware of the celebrity lions you saw.Lion Royalty indeed
That’s so awesome! I have learned since making this video there are some special ones! 👌🏻👌🏻
Excelent trip and video footage thanks. I am jealous.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That gin and tonic looks ever so refreshing 🍹
great job! so much content! amazing journey- thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Epic Africa out of this world episode thanks RO
Thanks for tuning in! 👌🏻
🙌🇦🇹
Roelfie's cruiser sounds awesome through that sand.
Amazing sightings and lovely campsites.
That thing is a beast, I drove it once or twice and it’s quite addictive… I decided it’s best if I don’t drive it at all 😂
Thanks! Always interesting. Really looking forward to the next. You must update us sometime on trip fuel costs.
Will do!
Hi Adrian,
You are correct - When we asked same question from the camp managers, why all the dead tress, we were told it was due to too much water in those low lying areas...
Enjoyed your videos of this region very much! Brought back fabulous memories!!
Awesome to hear! Thanks a mil for answering the Q!
Awesomeness 🤙👍
Thank you 😁
The trees die when the water table rises.
In amboseli Kenya millions of Acacia trees died due to water tables rising..with them the lions and leopards disappeared due to lack of shade
One of the best content so far. Botswana seems to have upped good stuff 🙏🤝🔥📸. Nice roam shirts there.
Thank you 🙌
@@RoamOverlanding you are welcome. Waiting for the next videos. 😊👍
Awesome 👌
Thanks 🤗
Savuti is fantastic. I think we saw those same mating lions just before or after you. They are 3 brothers I think - one is missing the end of his tail.
Yes the one missing the end of his tail was the first lion with the female, that didn’t end up mating.
@@RoamOverlanding👍 forgot to say great episode. Made me want to get back out there.
Please share the information on the two way radio aerial. Is it UHF or VHF. Can you share a link to it. Thanks for great trip reports
Currently we advise a standard full wavelength whip, for your radio. You can contact M-Tech communications if you’re looking for an antenna
Good video .. again what's your view on this question.
Am a photographer/videographer I do nature videos and photography and travel videos I currently own a sedan n I want to.upgrade to a 4 by 4 . My choice us a Hilux.. I usually travel alone occasionally 2 ..
Which backie would u buy 4 modifications.. 2.4 double cab 2.8 double cab of 2.8 smart cab.. what's your take on this.. am at the edge on which one to take because this is a once life time project I want to do
Have a quick glance on my CZcams channel to see Wat I do
If you have the money for the 2.8 then go for it! 👌🏻 the 2.4 is good but it’s a tad under powered! Even if you get a double cab, you can remove the rear seats for extra room for camera and film gear behind the driver seats 👌🏻
You always the best.. thanks
28:10 Hoe honger word ek nou! 😅
Awesome, when was this filmed. We were just there on 17 Jan and it was amazingly green.
This was peak of the dry season, end of October
Sorry for late watching 🤭I did not read all the comments, but I suspect the dead trees are elephants. As I understand it Chobe has a massive issue with elephants killing trees.
Haha there is no rush to watch 😋 well there probably is to the algorithm 🤣
@@RoamOverlanding Sorry work and Troopys in Africa trip away to your 😜dunes meant no reception to watch.
Great video! Thanks to you, my anticipation for my Botswana trip is even greater.
Can you please tell me what mount you use for the Garmin Inreach mini 2 in the vehicle on the windshield?
You’re going to love it! It’s a suction cup mount from Garmin, check their website for it!
@@RoamOverlanding Thank you. I found them and ordered them right away.
Wish you continue great unforgettable trips in Africa.
Thanks for your videos!
I wonder how Sekoti lost his tail tip and pom-pom?
When was the journey. Awesome, thank you.
We traveled in End of October 2022 👌🏻
Great vid , how do you keep the dust out with the tail gate
We use dust seal kits from BushTech Canopies, and their canopies excellent at minimizing dust too 👌🏻
It's good to notice that you utilized the stretch point at Disaster pan.....you should have spend a bit more time at Marabou pan, y2 may have seen the marsh pride.
Those two males wouldn't really fight for that female because they're brothers.
It was good to see Sekoti mating at Harvey's, I wonder where pretty boy and his coalition brothers are....🤔
Oooh that’s awesome that the lions have names and are known. I felt it important to share lots of footage of them Incase there was any significance to research or culturally, so that’s good that they are atleast recognizable 👏🏻 so we heard there was a female and a few cubs near Marabou Pan, but we couldn’t find them
@@RoamOverlanding The male lion that's missing the end of it's tail has been well documented since he was a cub, his story has received quiet a lot of interest in local newspaper.
His father is thought to be Sekakama (now exiled to Mababe Marsh) of the Savage Season Television series/documentary.
@@changugopalang5944 Oh wow!! Thats so cool! Celebrity Lions!
How did you boys manage with Diesel between Maun and Kasane
Hey Mark! We Managed to get some fuel at Muchenje! 👌🏻 luckily! Otherwise I wouldn’t have made it!
Great video once again! Please can you give the name of the table @ 33:30.
That is the BushTech Drop Down Table; it’s an accessory for their canopies 👌🏻
Love your videos mate, but I reckon it’s long to watch 😂😮
I had lots of people asking for longer videos 🤭
Please share your GPX to Savuti!
Where are the lions? 🦁
They are in Savuti, they were at the desolation pan or something like that
Hey Adrian,
I see you have a flex adventures fridge, how have you found it?
Yah I bought it for the tray, considering it was like R6999 and all the other fridges are over double; I’m pretty stoked with it. It’s been on since the trip basically running full time in the truck for 3 months now 😋 it struggled abit to keep super cold in the 40+ heat but it did enough that no veggies went off and the drinks were always cold enough 👌🏻 now with the freezer in, the freezer sits at -19 all the time so it does work 🤙🏻
@@RoamOverlanding well that’s good to know.
Yes the main reason I’m curious is because their prices are reasonably lower than the other more popular brands.
Thanks for the feedback.
Great content Btw, 👌 and that touch with the oven in your tray is just legendary 😄
@@matthewboonzaaier hahah it’s gotten abit ridiculous since then… just wait and see the nonsense I’ve done 😂
I believe the trees are dead because of the elephants 🐘 . They knock them down for what reason, we don't know
Name of Campsite in Savuti (12 mins or so) …. ?
CV10 was the Pitch !,
just the Savute main camp
Trees are dead from fire
Fire happens all over the bushveld
Takes trees out
Elephants replace trees from
Their dung
Hi
If am not wrong that male Lion looks like Sekoti. Quite a famous male in Botswana
So what happens if you have to pee in the middle of the night and there is a leopard outside😂?
Hahah I have a pee bottle 🤣
