Easy Instant Porridge Recipe
Hello CZcams
Porridge is a favourite with preppers and campers, it's a cheap and easy meal to make at home, at work or when out and about camping or backpacking.
You can get instant pots that are very useful when at work, out camping, or as a stash in your vehicle for emergencies.
But that convenience comes at a price, you can make the same mix for a tenth of the commercial price and store it in zip lock bags to use as required that will last for about 3 months.
Base Porridge mix;
40g oats
10g powdered milk
180ml water (vary to suit personal required consistency)
add as required sugar, salt, or fruit as preferred
Preparation;
Add boiling water to mix and stand for 2-3 minutes in a sealed container like this mug I used
Sistema microwave mug amazon link:
amzn.to/44ceNNA
If camping the close fitting Yugoslavian mess kit that I use to cook rice is also excellent for this:
czcams.com/video/E5DtaakNRBw/video.html
or
Add cold water and microwave on full power for 2 minutes, wait 1 minute and stir mixture, then microwave for another minute
A single serving like this has about 400kCal and 17g of protein before any other additives for about £0.13 per portion compared to the off the shelf pots at £1.30 a portion!
Thanks for watching let me know what you think in the comments.
All the best,
Roo

Hello CZcams, I was asked how to use a hydrometer in homebrewing in the comments on my cider from apple juice video: czcams.com/video/mg8tItaqKMk/video.html Hydrometers are weighted tubes of glass that measure the density of a liquid according to Archimedes principle of buoyancy. Before we pitch the yeast the sugar in our brews makes the liquid denser, once the yeast has converted that to alcoh...

Hello CZcams There are many mead recipes but at its heart all you need is honey, water and yeast and within a few weeks you'll have made mead The honey to water ratio will determine the ABV but generally its 3lbs (1.36kg) per gallon (4.5l) for a mead of around 14% You don't need much equipment and its relatively cheap to start brewing I used the glass bottle I bought some cider in with a rubber...

How to trap and prepare signal crayfish

Hello CZcams American signal crayfish were introduced to British waterways in the 1970's and quickly began to eliminate the native white clawed crayfish as they carry a disease which is fatal to the white claw. How do you change the disks?
In the German army, we used to call these dackelgarage -- dachshund garage. Also, what we did is dig a hole first, so you lie below the ground with the "tent" above. I spent a whole night with my back on a large tree root that way.
@@nowayjose668 thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware that you dug in first that's interesting although by the sound of it sometimes uncomfortable! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment really appreciate it, hope you have a great day. Roo
Do not twist the wires after you have stripped the cable
How do we reuse the yeast? I like to know how to make a starter again so we dont need to buy new yeast everytime

RIPA Wilko's
Do miss being able to walk to my nearest store but they're trading online again 👍
As a yank married to a lovely English girl I have had toad in the hole and it is indeed delicious. Full English and bacon butties (sp?) fried eggs with chips and bean are right up there too. Heard people here complain that English cooking is bland but they're the same ones likely voting for Biden if you get my drift so take no notice. Good hearty working mans food. I'm going to try this in my Czech mess kit.
@@clinnyboy would work equally well in them as they're a close fitting kit, thanks for watching and taking the time to post kind feedback 👍 Take care Roo
Damn good eating
So the trick is to take it off the heat and then cover it with a lid? The steam will cook the rice, while the water is absorbed from the rice. I'm going to give this a try with a single Esbit tab and half a cup of rice.
Yep, trap the heat and the rice will absorb the water 👍
I have this and constantly wonder every time i am in it, the best way to get out of it.
🤣
mine was frothy initially when fermenting but after less than 12 hours its only very lightly bubbling
That may be normal fermentation, did you take gravity readings?
@@PreparedCamping i didnt take any readings too lazy
Looks delish... love these Swedish M44 kits... so handy
what is the yeast nutrient you mentioned? and what do you mean by conditioning? thanks
Hi, Basically it's vitamins for yeast, most home brew stores and online retailers sell it, the brewers yeast I used here has it mixed in with the yeast already. Conditioning is storing the product for a while before drinking which allows the flavour to mellow and improve Happy brewing! Roo
Very good video :) its someone know how been used that filrers ? Or some book about the.?
Never heard of it, but it looked quite tasty! I just ordered some knock off British army mess tins. I hope they are as good. I will give your recipe a go myself! Although, I am unsure if we have the same sausages here in the States. When I lived in New Zealand, I would eat the British style sausages over there and found them quite bland, but I developed a taste for them after a while. Thanks for sharing!😊
In Australia we call toad in the hole fried bread with the middle cut out to form an egg ring
I think the yanks do the same buddy
Thanks, mate!
I put some rosemary in along with everything, really special.
Will have to give that a try, thanks for sharing Scott 👍
Happy to see a video that shows how easy it is to make mead. It's hard to show how easy the process is to others when every other videos is 30 min+
Thanks for watching and the positive feedback buddy much appreciated 👍 Hope you have a great weekend, all the best Roo
Could you add other fruits to make a fruity cider.
Yes definitely, best thing about home brewing is experimenting to suit your tastes 👍
@PreparedCamping thank you I'm fairly new and I've only done mead. I'll give it all a go.
Great video thank you very to the point
Thanks for that kind feedback Patrick much appreciated Happy brewing 👍
I like how it instantly fluffed the rice. Is this type of cooking possible with any type of metal container? As long as its not toxic
I tried this in my Stainless Steel stash mug and it worked perfectly. This is going to save me so much money on camping meals and dishes when at home! Thanks a million!
You're very welcome, thanks for watching hope you have a great day! 👍 All the best Roo
What portions do u use for a meal just by yourself and what else do u eat with the rice? Ive been making instant au jus gravy and it tastes so good. Might add carrots and beef
Very useful video. I'm planning on buying some of these to do a little DIY build ready for an upcoming adventure. It's handy knowing what I'll be getting as I wasn't sure from the item listing 👍 I'd be curious how tough it is?
Standard mylar so relatively strong but liable to puncture with prolonged use, thanks for watching good luck with the build👍
Thanks for that! The extra info is much appreciated 👍 I'll be checking out some more of your vids when I get a chance as I just found your channel today (and subbed of course)
As a Pole I was immediately triggered 😂
Did you end up ever making a follow up video or did you have to send the unit back? Wondering if the ceramic filters need to be pre-soaked. Currently using Rain Fresh Gravity System and the first couple runs took very long to filter through. Also using ceramic filters... It's now running quicker after the first few fills.
Whats the weight difference between this and the polish lavvu would they be roughly the same?or is this lighter?
What order do the washers go on, with the metal tap, before this goes back?
The instructions are shit for this. They are vague, and the text all bunched together. There are no parts list, like you get with ikea or habitat furniture. All the parts are in one bag. It made me believe there was a missing part What is the orientation of the washer on the tap? It’s about to go back. Buy British??!
Awesome little guide
Thanks for watching and the kind comment John much appreciated 👍 All the best Roo
I have this mask and its old filter. How do i clean my mask and where can i buy safe filters?
Cool thanks mate
Poland and the soviets in one sentence are an insult to Poles!
In older days it was capled a thimbstick because there was a fork at the top to hook you thumb around. It also had cord wrapped firca grip which could use as rope for emergencies or hangin tent over... there was also fishing line and hook half way down shaft. Along with the measurement notches. Some put a compass in the top of one fork. Truly handy. Scout sticks were based on these
Them showing up in tool kits was just later in their life, this does them a disservice; it's an arctic warfare knife and was issued as such in the 80s 90s for training in the arctic. That's why the scales are oversized.
Thanks for that 👍
Thanks for the straightforward no nonsense review on this bit of kit. I love that it has compartments. I'll be getting this.
Hi good video 👍
I bought one from Lidl , but it doesn't matter how I adjust the wheel , it cuts the wires from striping , do you have any ideea ?
Tip if you build up coals and throw in a few BBQ heat beads you will get good heat and a low flame for cooking
👍
Great stove if used correctly
I bought this item couldn’t figure out wtf it was for now I know thank u
It's a well thought out bit of kit a squad could connect their ponchos together to make much larger tents if necessary too! Thanks for taking the time to post a comment, all the best 👍 Roo
Have you ever done just a honey and water drink? How would you describe the taste of Mead?
Yes I made mead first before I made cyser, I like it it's like a sweet white dessert wine I've got a video on the same playlist as this video is on👍
@@PreparedCamping I see. I've had a few dessert wines 👍
Do you always need full material that you then cut out again? I have a warped grommet on a bow sling (so not comparable to a tarp whatsoever)... Could I cut out the current one, and insert another one that's the same size (or cut a bigger hole for a biger grommet)?
You can fit a replacement in an existing hole, might be worth going up a size slightly so it's a good fit though
@@PreparedCamping Thanks for the quick answer! :) One last question: how are they measured (let's assume the package says "2cm". Is that the inner (aka, just the opening) diameter or the outer diameter (aka the whole thing, edge to edge)?
@@mvl8209 there can be some slight variation on size, even within the same pack, but usually will be within 1mm of the stated dimensions
Mead is just basically fermented honey and water isn't it? Could I use half the amount of apple juice, more water, more honey, and still get a delicious tasty beverage ?
Yes and probably, best thing about homebrewing is experimenting to suit your tastes 👍
Loved Skyrim. Will play it again someday. Dig out the old Xbox 360. This drink looks delicious😋 Honey and apples go well together. What sort of strength are we looking at with all that honey? Has to be at least 7% 😮
Double that 😉 and yes it is delicious, more expensive to make than just the cider from apple juice alone but well worth it, I highly recommend you try this but it does take a lot longer to brew
So about 14 then? Yikes! I like Henry Westons cider and that's about 8.2% it's not really a session cider like strongbow or bulmers. I'd have 4 maybe 5 over an evening watching the telly. Lovely. Yeah, I'd need a lot of honey for 25 or 30 litres of mead cider.
@@HitchHikersBlues yeah it's wine strength 14%+ at the ratio I use so not something you drink by the pint 😉
@@PreparedCampingYeah, sip it and pace yourself if your having a couple of bottles. Looks the business though. Does mead traditionally have to be about 14% ?
@@HitchHikersBlues not at all, just like wine and beer it was often very weak, and only fermented to make it safer to drink than water gathered directly from rivers and streams
So you get about 5% from just the sugar content in the juice ? 31p a pint. Can't argue with that. A bottle of Henry Weston's 8.2 cider is now €5.20 in some off licences. The world has gone nuts.
Pretty much but if you don't like scrumpy you may want to backsweeten it with a little fresh apple juice when drinking. Price have increased over the last couple of years since I recorded this bit even with today's prices it's less than 50p a pint You can easily make an apple mead or cyser that is a lot stronger and tastes delicious, a did a video showing that here: czcams.com/video/10Vu7IwdC8Q/video.htmlsi=k5Yz1wMzEBFmas0Z Thanks for watching I hope you have a great weekend! All the best Roo
I see. I just ordered a cider kit for €40 off a website. My first brew kit. 30 litre fermenter with some accessories. The modern kits are nice, and simplify things a bit.
@@HitchHikersBlues absolutely 👍
How long should it take to get water. I’m at 1 hr don’t have enough water to drink.
It can take a while particularly if the ceramic filters weren't soaked first in order to be saturated. If you find it doesn't speed up disassemble and soak the candles before putting it back together Hope that helps, all the best Roo
Thank you it’s amazing how crazy impatient people can get especially myself at times, I didn’t pay attention when ordering, I thought my system came with 4 I actually got a really great discount, it’s working fine now. After 3 hours they saturated themselves.
@@kidjetrecon7153 awesome glad it's sorted for you 👍
I wouldn't use the filters for this thing. While it is up in the air, due to the communist origin of the mask chances are the filters contain asbestos.
I have this knife and find myself reaching for it more than my waaay more expensive ones, it seems to just carry out tasks with no fuss and performs flawlessly, takes a razor edge and holds it very well too, cheers.
Not as pretty for the Instagram photos but does the job and that's what matters 👍
