    Interesting as always. I've seen these kits and fancied doing one (never got round to it) I did do a bag if beer years ago. Everything in the bag. Add water. Hang it up for 21 days, then drink. Loopy juice! I think that's what out me off a little, and the fact that I no longer drink!

      I've seen some mini keg kits like that where you just add water, fair play to you for abstaining mate 👍

    Thanks Roo. I've wanted to start home brewing for a while now but I always imagined It to be quite a task, however you've now given me the inspiration to have a go with this kit. I really hope you put out part 2 soon though because the next stage of siphoning and bottling etc sounds like the hard part !!! Lol
    Thanks again and I've hit the subscribe button so I'll check your other vids too.

    You should be good for a week, maybe almost two with all that wine. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. Thank you for the video, Roo. Great lock-down project. Stay safe and stay warm

      These kits are quick ones so should be ready for Christmas unlike the fruit wines we're making that we'll be storing for a year Sean 😉

      We got a couple of these kits for the equipment to make wines from our garden and local area
      That it also gave use the ingredients for 24 bottles of wine was a bonus brother 😉

      Bought these kits because they were a great price for the equipment to make wine from the fruit in our garden, but if these grape extracts taste OK we'll get more as its so much quicker than the country wines

    Im worried about if the glass demijohn is sterile. Does it come sufficiently sterile? Or how could you maybe do a video on how to sterilise it?

    • @PreparedCamping
      @PreparedCamping  Před rokem +1

      I would definitely recommend sterilising it before use just to be sure.
      We use the bruclens powder also from Wilko which is £3 for 100g pot.
      Use 2 teaspoons (10g) and add 5l of warm water to make a strong sterilising fluid
      Using the demijon from this kit add the 2 teaspoons of powder and fill with warm water, then give it a good shake to combine and set aside for 10 minutes, after that use it to soak your equipment and let to air dry as I did before racking in this video;
      czcams.com/video/w9YjTB1bQOY/video.html
      But you can also use milton or diluted bleach to sterilise your equipment in the same way
      All the best

      @PreparedCamping thanks so much for the advice! In the interim I just dove in. I think I sterilised it so much it’s not fermenting 🤦‍♀️ lol
      Ah well you live and you learn x

    • @PreparedCamping
      @PreparedCamping  Před rokem

      If fermentation has stalled you can kick-start it again by activating 10g (2 teaspoons) of wine yeast with 50ml of warm (22°C or 72°F) water and sugar 5g (1 teaspoon) after the few minutes you'll see froth building up as the yeast has became active and add this to your must that should also be about the same temperature and store in a warm dark spot as per the original instructions.

  • @user-se3gi3xf6g
    @user-se3gi3xf6g Před rokem +1

    How many days did you leave it for? Did you siphon into bottles after leaving it to brew in the demi?

    • @PreparedCamping
      @PreparedCamping  Před rokem +2

      I left it two days to top up the demijohn with more water then left it for twenty one days.
      At that point there was almost no activity so I added the finnings and left for another day before siphoning into bottles and sealing them.
      These kits are super easy and a great introduction to the process, thanks for watching and happy brewing!

      @@user-se3gi3xf6g the process is pretty much the same just takes longer to ferment, they turned out fair enough and I highly recommend making fruit wines which are incredibly cheap and delicious 👍

    Did you take that red cap off the top from the start or not!? Trying to get as much info for this. Thank you.

    • @PreparedCamping
      @PreparedCamping  Před 2 lety

      Hi Craig if you mean the red cap on the airlock bubbler yes I take the cap off and half fill with water then push it into the rubber bung
      Once I put the bung into the top of the demijohn I add the red plastic cap then set aside to ferment
      Hipe you have a very Merry Christmas, all the best

      12% ish inflation isn't surprising after two years the way everything has been going up I suppose but that's quite pricey
      You can buy everything separately and make your own wines much cheaper particularly if you forage or grow the fruit yourself
      Blackberry wine is delicious and they can be found almost everywhere so even with inflation if you pick your own it will be less than 50p a bottle to make 😉🍷
