Kusk Bushcraft
Canada
Registrace 12. 07. 2018
I got my first pocket knife when I was five years old and since then my passions in life have always revolved around the outdoors.
My focus is not on having the latest and greatest gear. Most of the gear I use I have had for many years and I try to pack as little gear as possible. Bushcraft is about using what nature provides to live comfortably in the wilderness. A lot of the essentials and comfort items can be crafted from natural materials using the right tools and knowledge.
Forget the overloaded packs, expensive camping gear, and the never ending production of useless outdoor "essentials". Join me on my wilderness adventures where the frills are left behind and the outdoors are simply enjoyed.
I do not do gear reviews. I do not do product sponsorships. I am not an expert. Some activities I do can be dangerous. Replicating what you see me do could lead to dangerous situations that could put your health and safety at risk. Viewers be warned.

Solo Backcountry Bushcraft Tarp Camp
Join me as I return to the bushcraft tarp camp after nearly 9 months of being away. After a quick camp clean-up, I enjoy a spring overnight campout in the backcountry of Canada. Why My Knives DO NOT Have 90° Spines
zhlédnutí 43KPřed měsícem
The square spine is often highly regarded throughout the outdoors community. Today I thought I would share my thoughts and opinions on the square spine along with my reasoning for having rounded spines on my knives. If you're somebody that enjoys working with your knife a rounded spine could offer you a more enjoyable experience. Thank you to everyone who watches, God bless!

Emergency Snowstorm Survival with a Vehicle Survival Kit

On a cold snowy winter day I find myself stranded in the Canadian wilderness with a small survival kit I keep in my vehicle. I put my kit to the test to survive the night during a -20°C snowstorm. Thank you to everyone who watches! God bless. More info about the video and the gear I used: First off, this is just a scenario depicting what I'd do in a situation where I was stranded in the outdoor...
Split Log Stove Cooking - Pancake Bacon Dippers
zhlédnutí 28KPřed 2 měsíci
On this very windy day I stopped trailside to have a quick lunch of pancake bacon dippers. Due to the wind I opted to use a split log stove instead of having a fire on the ground. The area I was in had a lot of debris and duff on the forest floor and with the strong winds I didn't want to risk starting a forest fire. The split log stove worked great in these conditions and left zero footprint w...
Backcountry Bedroll Camping & Campfire Cooking

While I do wish that there was more snow and colder temperatures, I certainly can't complain about the weather during this trip. Some very mild winter conditions allowed me to be extremely comfortable on an overnight campout with a minimal bedroll kit. I'm beginning to explore areas for a future project I hope to begin this summer. The resources in this area looked quite promising for my needs....

In this final episode of the 'Life of a Woodsman' series I give you a tour of the camp and touch on a few different pieces of gear I've brought with me. I had originally intended for this series to go on longer and to share quite a few more videos from this camp. Unfortunately after filming for a few weeks I ran out of battery life for my camera and the series had to conclude here. This trip wa...

It's another beautiful day here in the wilderness. Having a breakfast that is both filling and enjoyable to eat is always a great way to start the day. This mornings breakfast of honey oat cake and coffee certainly meets that criteria. Give this recipe a go! Just a quick word on what is happening with the beaver pelts. It is plenty cool enough that they will keep without the hair slipping until I can get them back home and finish tanning them properly. Let me know if there is any interest in a hide tanning series. I would be happy to share the process if people are interested. Thank you to everyone who watches.
Life of a Woodsman - Smoked Beaver Meat

Time to get the smoke rolling and the beaver meat preserved. I process a couple pounds of beaver meat by slicing it thin then add some seasonings. The meat then heads into the smoker where it can smoke for a few hours. After smoking and drying the final product is a huge success. With this test batch finished I can continue to work through the remaining meat and have a tasty snack to enjoy arou...

It's time to begin preserving the extra meat I've been blessed with. In order to preserve the meat I first need to construct a smoker which is the focus of this video. Simplicity is what I strive for and I think the design is as simple as one can get without sacrificing the effectiveness. It performed well when I tested it, now it's time to load it up with meat. Stay tuned! Thank you to everyon...

"Ridgelines are as complicated as you make them"... is worth it's weight in Gold. I came (back) to your video to comment and admit that I had watched your video and went "Ok , simple but nothing special ". Then I went to watch a couple of others , became increasingly confused and irritated.... and came back to re-watch your video. In short, thank you.
Very nice!
Good job my friend. build a heat reflector behind the fire and fill in as many holes in the fantastic shelter as you can and you'll be almost toasty.
Wind changes as fire smolders, well,,, hes screwed then! Smoke Out

Great video but man, that cast iron is in dire need of a full re-seasoning, nothing on the sides or handle?!
Bear free day is a win
Very nice ❤ your activity in the video. Really enjoyed.Thank for sharing.
Do they regulate grouse hunting in Alberta? You need a license for that specific area and there's a bag limit ?? I was surprised in the first video when you just offhandedly talked about harvesting meat with your gun as if it were 1923 and you can indiscriminately take what you wish.. Although i maybe just misinterpreted. If not, that's a hard no-go in the States, now that we got the responsibility to steward what's left of the nature we jacked
Are you not concerned a bit about any wild animals??
It so nice video, I like it
My kids and I lived 10 miles from town in a mobile home. (In Utah) One night we just couldn't warm up and toward morning the thermometer read -51. The kids had to catch the school bus and I had to drive to work. The foam car seat was frozen solid and the car wouldn't start even though I had a radiator heater plugged in. We had to have every inch of skin covered. A good neighbor worked with me and took two or three of us with him. He had a very old car and he'd kept it warm all night. That was only one day and we suffered for a week. One neighbor had holes in his gloves .He went out to feed his cows and where the holes were he got big blisters then frost bite. You sure learn fast how to survive!
nice
Why I started Watching these videos was because of the fellow who died as a result of being caught in a massive snow storm. He was well-known as a hiker in back country as well.As someone who trained people in how to do long term hiking in mountainous regions. Yes somehow he did not seem to have the skills for survival especially in hardship situations. So I wondered why someone like him. Who'd been at this for years? Had actually decades did not have the necessary skills to survive in massive. Cold and snow, yet you had a hike in mountainous regions. This was in some place Northeastern United States. The/winner and it just seemed to me that. Something was missing. So I watch these films with interest as to what might be minimal and even a little more than minimal preparation to to have somebody carry necessary. The most essential pieces of equipment that would have permitted this fellow to survive his circumstances.. It was a sad situation for his family to realize that he had passed away doing something that he seemingly loved to do and was fully capable of teaching other people how to do and enjoy being out in nature. It is highly unlikely that I will ever be in his position or attempt to do survival hiking in such conditions. However, I do have to say. I hope this is something that people like yourself will take on the task of training people. In how to do this search methods for finding just basic resources and how to prepare oneself for eventualities Best wishes for a fine year
Looks tidy but miserable and cold
A fur trapper... Spruce that is...
Why no reflecter on the far side of the fire? All that lost heat escaping opposite you
Crunchy, squeaky, snow is always the coldest.. ever had any wolf encounters?
