Ufff, dont have good dark place for curing. Will they be ok in just shade?
@srksii being in the light even shade will turn the green. You will need to cover them with a tarp so they aren't exposed to the light
Bumper crop this year😊Our supposed to be 6 ft. tree is about 13ft. First yr. we only got 13- 2nd yr =0 3rd=bumper crop, sweet and juicy.
Well done
I'm one of those few people who don't have grass in their yard. I live in Rio Rancho, NM and the sun is just too harsh to keep up a grass lawn.
Thank you. This is the information that I needed.
Do you uave ideas for cucumber beetles?
I'd love to grow fall/winter crops. I live in the Hudson Valley area of NY zone 6ish and I have a small greenhouse that I hope to use for this purpose and wonder if the timing for starting these plants is the same. I have had an awful problem with bugs this year that attacked my broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cucumbers, eggplant and butter cup squash that I've never experienced in the 25+ years I've been growing my small garden so I'm afraid to put leafy greens out where they will be magnets for crop-eating bugs. Any tips for successful fall gardening would be appreciated.
I have a friend that’s a vegetarian and the proud recipient of any zucchini that I’ve missed. She makes vegetarian crab cakes with them. No, I haven’t tried them but I’m happy to contribute 😅
Add in parsnips too 🙂
This isn't the amount of direct sunlight onions require, right? Is it just the length of the day? Because I don't have a spot in my garden that gets 10-12 hours of direct sunlight, 8 hours is the maximum I get during high summer.
@poppyblue1512 correct, this is just day length, not direct sun.
Such a great new series, thank you!
Glad you enjoy it!
Gonna love watching how this comes together. Every year it seems i add another raised bed. And want to experiment with growing something new. 5 years ago i put down cardboard and then got a truck load of woodchips. Then built my raised beds ontop. This past spring i just refreshed it with more woodchips.
Can I do this in a storage bin?
1) My neighbor has a raised bed garden. He uses big pavers between the rows to walk on. 2) Is it best to have a raised bed garden or till up and plant directly into the soil like I do. I grow tomatoes 🍅 peppers 🫑 pumpkins 🎃 for a roadside stand in front of my house. 3) I’ve been trying to get my cousin to put in a garden. They live in the country with lots of trees and the only sunny spot is to the east of their house over looking their pond which is their leach field. Not sure if you want to fill up a leach field to plant a garden or not but I would think that that would be a perfect spot for them for a container garden?
In ground gardens are nearly always cheaper and easier to start. But in my brothers case the ground in there area is excessively ROCKY. I mean it is REALLY bad. So it is easier to just add raised beds. I don't know what a leach field is so I can't help you there. Containers are always harder to garden in, but not impossible.
@@StoneyAcresGardening a Leech field is where the waste goes for you septic tank. City sewers don’t run in the country, so they have a septic tank.
They also have chickens. I figured that they could use that manure in the garden as well. She thinks it too hot. I said then just throw it in a compost pile.
Exciting always love to see the way others garden come out
Wait until you see the finished garden! I looks amazing!
Last year I gave up 1/2 my front yard grass for 4 raised beds because that’s where my sun is.
They were lucky to have that great spot in the back. They don't have much of a front yard.
Is there different types of popcorn ? I wonder, the popcorn this year seems to be very dry and tough after you pop it. My brother said the same thing,he orders his popcorn from a different place, rather than here in Canada. Is there different grades of popcorn ? and which areas grow the best popcorn ? You seem very knowledgeable on corns, so maybe you know the answer ?
I think it would just be the variety of popcorn you chose. We grow a couple of different varieties and one of the varieties we grow is also a little "tougher". We really like yellow hulless it produces a nice light popped kernel. But it is hybrid so you can't save the seeds to plant next year.
@@StoneyAcresGardening thanks for reply and where can I buy yellow hulless type of popcorn ? do you sell it ?
Thank you!!!! I was do worried because I had just a few flowers. To me flowers = fruit!!!
I understand. But keep in mind potatoes aren't fruit, they are underground stem swellings, not the same as fruit. In fact every once in a great while the flowers on a potato will actually grow a fruit (which is poisonous)
Gee, I bet nobody knew that
One kohlrabi, 6 turnips and a zucchini.
Awesome!
When should you harvest when the leaves and vines start to die? Do you leave them ? or Pick them to ripen off the vine?
Go back and watch the video, you harvest when the skins have hardened.
We have Kellog at HD
The grasshoppers have been horrible it makes 2 seasons now. The weather is off. Sarrs, corona, covid, cv19, delta, omicron, monkey pox, bird flu, fish guts whatever. Ask why!🤑
I harvest my first cantaloupe fruit bumper, Basil harvested yesterday morning, July 19
I picked some basil, a few cherry yellow tomatoes, and a couple of green beans. Yesterday I found some cucumbers that had been having a good ol' time growing to a crazy size. They're so good though! Your lettuce looks so good Rick!
Thanks! Glad your garden is doing great too!
I harvested weeds today.
😂
I grow tomatoes and peppers for my roadside stand. I heavily put grass clippings in and around the entire garden for two reasons: mulch as well as keeping the weeds down
Nice!
Awesome, do I need to let the seeds air dry for long term storage?
I used to use grass clippings in my garden when I lived in Oregon. Here where I live in Arizona I don't have a yard with grass and I miss having it available to use in the garden.
Are you supposed to move the mulch aside when you water, then move it back? Otherwise wouldn't the water just sit on the Mulan and evaporate?
I have been using grass clippings for a few years. I do not wait for it to dry, I do get some matting. I leave some space around the plant roots, for water to seep in when I water, I hand water, no pipes or drip hoses. I like that it reduces splashing and weeds. I have a lot of clay, and feel that tilling in the grass, loosens the soil.
I use this recipe all the time.
Thank you. You have so many great garden tips. We tried Tatsoi and Nevada lettuce, both are true winners, appreciate the recommendations.
Our pleasure!
Is grass mulch good for blueberries ?
Sure
Free is the best response 😂😂😂😂
I know right!
Hello Rick. Hope you are doing well. I find this information so helpful. Every year I try different things to expand my knowledge and celebrate a fine harvest in the process. I need to expand to fall and winter growing eventually. Keep up the good work and thanks
Thanks, you too!
UGH! I watched this too late: I harvested some green striped spaghetti squash, thinking they were going to seed! Can I put them outside in the sun? Will they continue to ripen please? Thanks, really loved this video.
There's something weird about spinach. I find it hard to germinate, hard to get it to grow, and the one spinach plant that did germinate and grow is pathetic. I can't imagine it making it through a winter, even in a cold frame.
Thank u for this well informed video. U r awesome😊
Thank you so much 😀
But how do you combat slugs? When I covered my beds it seemed like I just built a spa for them and they plagued me far into the spring. I’d love to grow under cover again but I’m afraid to foster more slugs this winter.
Organic baits, traps and hand picking!
@@StoneyAcresGardening there were soooo many…I’ll try some baits
a very helpful video. thank you. loved that you inserted the lists. I took screen shots so I can refer to them.
Glad it was helpful!
What do you do if for a bramley cooking apple the apples are already almost the size of a dessert apple? Is it too late to thin? Will I be able to cook with these apples or not as they are obviously not ripe yet, I’m in the uk.
I started my fall garden I started my garden a mouth ago like you said😊
Awesome!
Your onions look delectable. I passed out on the 2nd & had no idea I was in hospital. Pak choi & Parisian carrots it is next week. 😢 I hate I missed your show, but I saw my seat still waiting 😊TY.
The replays are still there for you to watch. I'm glad you're feeling better!

I had know idea about storing spaghetti squash there going in my basement

Thank you so much for this video. Do you do the same with mandarine oranges?
I'm sorry I can't answer that. I live in a cold weather climate so we can't grow oranges so I have no idea.
