    When do you recommend making a steam page? GameDevUnlocked recently has said that he is keeping his new game a complete secret. The goal is to keep it this way until the game is much closer to release to feed the steam algo the sudden momentum to be a featured game. This seems like a questionable strategy and was curious your thought to play the long game where you get your steam page up early or wait to try to get an initial bump in wishlists.

    Question about politics. Should I post about politics within gaming/game developing? For example, last year, some devs criticize Unity's price change, this year, players trying to push back DEI/political correctness in games. Is it smart to follow the trend and post about them, or pretend it didn't happened?

      This is just my opinion, but if it’s a personal account, it’s entirely up to you what you want to discuss but remember, people will always have their own beliefs and people purchase products from brands they know, like, and trust. Ultimately, I’m not a fan of following trends. You have to do what you feel is best but understand there are consequences for our actions, especially in business.

I love UI/UX design, and im also pretty good at it, but for games, where I want the player to be Immersed, sometimes I don't even give them a Crosshair, because I find it distracting! I watched one of your videos and was ready to just block channel but I read your about and noticed 1 Peter 5:8 at the end so I decided to give some constructive criticism (please take it as such). I myself plan to get started this year and I think if you listen to some of your own words, your videos may become more popular. So, what initially made me doubt (first minute of the video) was who is this man in a white-walled room with a stained Champs hoodie telling me expert advice about marketing? I know, kind of harsh, but hopefully helpful. I think that all falls in line though with what you said in this very video about branding. People will follow you more if you look polished. I highly doubt my first content will be half as good but we should continually improve. As for video content, I agree with what another poster said that it was too long. The videos I've been seeing succeed tend to be 12-15 minutes so perhaps a part 1&2 would have been better. I like how you cut in a lot of game footage so we don't have to just watch you talk. Some of the stock clips (non-game) are already getting repetitive in the 2 videos I've watched though. If your goal is to grow this and continue, I'd invest in a better mic and a little noise conditioning for that room (its a bit echoey/muffled). I wish you the best of luck. I'll look for your future videos and see how you improve.

    I'm developing and trying to learn how to edit, post, create a community etc. My biggest "mountain to climb" right now is the language. So far I've been creating my community in Portuguese which is my native language here in Brazil, but I see that I must engage with English speakers as well. And should I do 2 videos/posts always? Many people here don't speak English and many more outside here does not speak Portuguese. Not to mention CZcams does not yet let me dub my videos.

    • @Sourusophyexe
      @Sourusophyexe Před měsícem

      It might sound cold, but in reality... Unless you can make it into a career (eg. streaming) and it makes you money... I don't see the benefit of engaging with the Brazilian community. I think you will have much wider success by communicating and making content in English, since everyone around the world can consume it given they understand English. This way you can find a wider audience that can have interest in that type of content. Like... Which age group uses the Internet the most in Brazil? And do you think - are they interested in game development? Doesn't look like it. I think unless you can tap into other top mainstream Brazilian CZcamsrs and Twitch streamers to do collaborations with them or like put them in your games as a gag/funny reference then it's simply meaningless. It doesn't look like people speaking Portuguese are all that interested in this type of topics. eg. 616 Games, who makes horror games and is ironically, Brazilian as well - has put 'Karim Musa'/yotobi, a famous Italian YTber with 1.5m subscribers in his games many times, because he fostered some kind of relationship with the Italian audience - and they don't even post in Italian, they post in English only, but they found that connection, not even needing to use the language. Also Tiktok is not a very good metric of engagement and a community. People on Tiktok will move on and not really form a relationship, that is how this platform works (constant dopamine & entertainment stream). I don't think Tiktok translates into revenue, but it can probably be a good platform for a snowball effect to bring attention to your games. Game dev is not really all that popular, when you go down into the generic stuff or very technical stuff. People rather watch something silly and brainless (such times! Can only adapt to them). That is why Ytbers like Dani or TwoStarGames made dopamine-filled, "action"-like videos as if you go into adventure. And developers like 'Blackthornprod' would rather make sloppy "6 DEVS MAKE GAME WITH NO COMMUNICATION" which brings him 1 million views per video as opposed to "Uh hey guys it's episode 33 of me making a RPG game, now lets talk how about I placed some trees and wrote the dialogue". Just because it's more entertaining and brings more viewers. If you make content only in Portuguese will you foster a community that buys your games and supports you? It just doesn't look like it will happen. I just don't see it being appreciated and supported. That is the landscape we are in. And if I can be very crude and blunt then... I don't see your content as being that interesting. Obviously it's the language barier that allows me to immerse myself, but from I can gist you are making like "random game facts" or Q&A and talking about your game features. There is no adventure, no struggle or narrative. I don't think people can relate emotionally at all. And people are more guided by their emotions than intellect. People would rather watch someone talk about philosophy in "emotional way" eg. sharing their journey like "I adopted stoicism and it improved my life, helped overcome my life problems like my marriage and I met new friends because of it" Instead of watch someone talk about philosophy in "intellectual way" eg. debating about values of stoicism and if they are really applicable and analyzing it by breaking to down. There will be some people interested in it of course, but it's a small minority. And if you were to make this content in Portuguese it would be a minority of a minority in countries (Brazil, Portugal + small islands) that have no history of philosophy and some kind of general connection (like for example Germany that has bred many various philosophers that influenced the world). I think people in Brazil have other life struggles than interest in philosophy. I hope you get where I am going with this.

    • @BraveAbandon
      @BraveAbandon Před měsícem

      In truth, the only people you should be getting game dev advice from is professional solo/indie game devs but ill say this anyway: There is 250 million Portuguese speakers in the world, and there is 1.4 billion english speakers in the world. But you dont need a billion extra people to buy your game. Brazilians have spent more than 3 billion dollars on gaming according to google. You only want a tiny slice of that pie. You likely just need more like 5-10,000 people to buy your game. I'd only work to develop both audiences if your heart is truly in it. You need to have fun and enjoy it. The people who try to do something hard just for the money seldom survive the challenges. Imo conserve your energy for where you need it most, in your game. If your game is unique and high quality, a publisher will help sell it to an english market too. If you don't need to overwhelm yourself then don't, or you run the risk of burning out early. Youre in this for the long haul. Whatever you can do to preserve, feed and fuel your passion, is most important.

      Good question! From what I’ve been seeing, Steam has been changing how it’s been showcasing games. Here are a couple things I’m confident of… 1. Steam loves backlinks from external sites (CZcamsrs linking Steam pages) 2. Steam is focused largely on momentum (games that have been marketed for a short time but are getting a lot of wishlists and external traffic vs Steam pages that have been around for a while and getting steady growth) 3. Steam LOVES showcasing open world survival craft games over games of other genres 4. Influencer marketing has been the biggest tool with the majority of games I’ve seen go viral and become successful (vs just hoping for a social media post to go viral) As always, remember that things change. Hope this helps!
