I would encourage you to now further modify all of the profile (horns and bouts) so as to not have the final product appear to be a mash up but rather a synthesis. Don't just go as far as getting in attributes from each guitar. Have the final product itself go beyond each one individually.
Yeah. That’s the natural order of things. I am about 5 builds in and was looking to do the same. Tired of doing Strat’s and tele style
I've not watched them all yet, I started on the pickguard using a jigsaw one as that's my next move on my first build of my own design. I've enjoyed though, I like yourstyle and skills and coincidentally recently discovered novo guitars and I think they are my favourite aesthetically too so may try making one like you have one day. Got to make my girlfriend a strange one after I finish my monstrosity . Good work all 'round!
Thanks so much for watching Dan and good luck with your project 😃🙏🏻
Some people would have you believe wood is totally unimportant....😂, they watch a 'expert' on CZcams then think its a undebatable fact.
The debate rages on 😅 Thanks for watching 🙏🏻😃
Ive put guitars together with what i have laying about... thats about as far as ill go. Ive enjoyed cosmetically restoring guitars, i can imagine the pleasure you get ftom this, but nah... id just buy something vintage znd Japanese on ebay if i wanted something retro.
Yes it’s fun to do 😉👍 Thanks for your comment Mike 😃🙏🏻
You need to put a wire from your 1/4 inch jack to the foil if you haven't. I saw it in a different video but haven't tried it. Me I'm going to use the paint. Thank you for the video!
Thanks for the tip and for watching 👍🙏🏻😃
Nice, I wanted to hear the goldfoils now I only heard bluggins.
Maybe I should demonstrate the gold foils more dry 🤔😉
I ended used one of the stewmac ones. The fit is just OK. They only work good in one direction. I plan on making my own with some veneer. I wanted to play the guitar, so they got me set up.
Yes I saw the Stewmac ones. I would have bought them but couldn’t wait for shipping from the US to Denmark 😅👍 Thanks for watching and taking time to comment 🙏🏻😃
Did you post this video for the second time? I m sure i ve seen it already... but maybe my mind is playing tricks on me!
Hi John, no I didn’t post it before but I did make kind of the same video on the other guitars I built. Maybe that’s it 😉 But thanks for watching and for your comment 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😃🙏🏻
I always shield guitars if they come unshielded, but I use aluminium foil from the kitchen, moulded to the cavity shape in one piece (as best I can) and stuck down with Pritt Stick. Copper tape (slug tape from the garden centre) is easier to apply, but I feel that it alters the guitar's tone. Another place I shield is the complete underside of plastic Telecaster pickguards, because if they're not grounded, a pick can generate some sort of static electric charge that I hear every time I strum.
Thanks for great input 👍😉 And thanks for watching 😃🙏🏻
When people wax their pickups, is that also for shielding?
I think it’s mainly to It prevent them from being microphonic, and mot for shielding against 60 cycle hum. 😉👍
The thing that people dont usually mention about shielding guitars is that it makes all the subtle ringing out string sounds finally audible, when before they were down in the noise. It really changes the perception of a guitar.
The first guitar I sheilded was about 1995 - a friends late 80's Fender Strat. I put a cut up pie tin inside it, which allowed a fairly thick piece of aluminum to cover the cavity in one piece. I disliked that guitar greatly before, but just shielding it changed my mind completely about it.
Hey Leif, thanks for watching and for for your great comment 😃🙏🏻
The copper foil at the screw hole really is a pro tip. When you painted the black strip connecting the 3 pickup cavities, I thought a lot of times Fender pickguards would warp and that would separate the connection. But with the screw hole you can be certain.
Hi Dylan, you are absolutely right… 😉👍 Thanks so much for watching and taking time to comment 🙏🏻😃
Life in general, isn't worth it.
Wow, cheer up my friend 😂 Thanks for watching 🙏🏻😃
Playing guitar makes life worth it.😊
I feel your pain…I just finished a hardtail soloist build from Warmoth…I thought everything would fit properly…NO…the bridge and neck didn’t line up height wise…I don’t have a router to deepen the neck pocket so I had to shim the bridge “higher” about 1.5mm to get proper string action height…what a mess…well done my man 👍
It’s always the problem with matching parts that don’t really fit each other or when you don’t have the right tool. I really hate to work with my router but it’s necessary for a lot of things. Thanks so much for watching 😉👍
I don’t like the modern Tele bridges at all.
Hey , thanks for watching Lars 😃🙏🏻
@@MichaelLagerstedt I mean there’s a reason why they are using the modern bridges for decades now. So they work well and many people prefer them. Personally I think that I like the vintage oriented stuff more. Like the Vinteras for instance. Thank you for your video. 👍🏻
Looks great 👏🏽👏🏽.
Thanks so much and thanks for watching 😃🙏🏻
I have built several parts casters. Some of my favorite guitars. Purple Stratocaster with an ebony board, medium jumbo frets, duel humbucker and locking tuners. Trem is hard tailed and the guard and hardware are black. It’s my go to!
I am at the same spot right now with a tele project - I am really afraid I will mess it up!!!!!
Good luck 😉you can do it. Thanks for watching 😃🙏🏻
My Squier JM thay I really poured myself into modding, upgrading, lesrning thr ins and out of maintainence and setup, etc. is the most bonded with snd most respect for that I've ever felt with a guitar I've owmed, including far more exoensive ones. Really, I've spent more on all of that then what the vanilla guitar was orignally worth. The rewards have felt enormous. So I do think it's an investment if we quantify value on an emotional and functional level. It's true they have a poor resale value. But, think of how relic'ing is such a recurring them in partscaster build design philosophy. It's kind of nice to add to the sum or that with the guitar being appreciated as something to be maintained, modified, decorated, inherited, etc. instead of appreciated solely for it's liquid value. Thr value of money is only what it can buy us, anyway! I also agree with and appreciate you extolling that this is a worthwhile investment IF you have the vision snd know-how (or at least drive to obtain such knowledge and willingness to take a direct, logical approach). I would recommend first taking a similar path as how i described; buy a budget guitar (so the stakes feel relatively low) and go absolutely ham on learning the in's and outs and how to set it up and be extremely ambitious with mods akd upgrades and do some even unnecessary things just for the exercise. Don't be afraid to run it into the ground. You'll learn a ton, snd you'll find your inspiration for your own build.
Thanks so much for your comment. The way you did it is a great way to learn about your guitar. You make some really good points as well.👌 Thanks so much for watching 🙏🏻😃
My Partscasters are works of art. Not for their beauty, but I do meticulous fret work and setup work. Inexpensive parts, but they play amazing.
Great point Jeff - inexpensive parts but great setup 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thanks for watching 😃🙏🏻
The parts caster to me sounds more deep and sustainy as the fender sounds thinner and not as warm.
I think you are right but often you need thin especially in a mix. Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment 😃🙏🏻
Awesome design. It's not easy coming up with something cool. You did. Congrats
I can’t take credit for the design unfortunately. I was heavily inspired by Novo Serus T. Check out this video to see the Novo: czcams.com/video/ER0c7EL0Tr0/video.htmlsi=j6f2Gu14yckSh5_n Thanks so much for watching 😃🙏🏻
Partscasters are definitely the way to go if you're into the unique, or demand extreme quality. You may not get the resale value of a genuine Fender or Gibson from a partscaster, but you can build stuff that would easily rival the "custom shop" builds from the big guys - especially if you purchase handcrafted necks and bodies from skilled builders.
Couldn’t agree more… but I want to challenge the selling part in a video by trying to sell one of my creations 😅 Thanks so much for watching and taking time to comment 😃🙏🏻
To save money NO. You will lose the difference in resell value. For a fun unique project hell YES.
Right you are sir 👍😉
For anyone watching, it wasn’t a major fail also he was just being funny, it was the thickness of the tape that the pattern bit of the router ran over which made the pocket template slightly too small at first.
Hey, Thanks so much for watching and contributing - I love it 🙏🏻😃👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Before painting, you can paint the body with a primer and nitrocellulose capon varnish ?
That’s true, but I wanted that thin coat of Nitro because that’s what Novo guitars does, so I just tried to do what I thought they did. Hey, Thanks for watching 🙏🏻😃
what are the names of the varnishes I used to paint the body
Absolutely awesome have a wonderful day ❤😊
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻😉
drill 6 new holes on bridge plate would be much easier
😉👍 Thanks for watching 😃🙏🏻
They sound very unique, not like a Fender or Gibson AT ALL! Beautiful sound.
Yes, pretty unique. A great addition to an all round guitar collection 😉👍
Nice! But why connect ground shielding to brass bridge?
Hi Abdula, Why shouldn’t I ground a brass bridge ? Hey, Thanks so much for watching 😃👍
@@MichaelLagerstedt Because brass isn't conductive and won't serve as a ground?
Nevermind, I was thinking of something else
@@abdulal-hodl8861it’s true that it’s not as conductive as silver and gold but it is leading currant… anyway, I didn’t even think about that, I just did it. But thanks for raising an interesting question to be explored 😃👌
@@MichaelLagerstedt Quite right - I was thinking of sparking
How the proper shielding process would be if I have a Les Paul; which has the pots, bridge PU, neck PU and switch in separated cavities?? Please help
Shield all cavities and connect them. The guitar in the video has separate cavities as well, just do like I did 👍😉 Copper foil on the back of the pick guard and copper foil or shielding paint in the cavities. If you use paint be aware that paint doesn’t sit well on sharp edges. Hope this helps Thanks for watching 😃👍🙏🏻
You can get a plethora of custom and partscaster guitars out there...such as MJT. I have one. And like it. (I was give a Fender neck and parts so it justified the build.) But the boutique builers and dealers can go up as high as the $7000.00s. And given that there aren't that many gigs around these days...WHY? If this were back in the day...then it would've been justified. Even then...you'd of been better off buying a brand name guitar to get your value for $. Lets face it...not all of us become stars and some sell the instruments. Or at least we sell s few of our instruments.
Yes, the old battle between what you want and what you need… I’m already running out of space to store my guitars. So selling off some stuff isn’t out of the question… but is it even possible? I don’t know. Thanks for watching and for a great comment 😃🙏🏻
Great video. Yes resale is the only problem. So if it is fun we have to do it.
True… I still really want to make a video about me trying to sell one of my builds. I actually talked to the owner of a small local shop who agreed to put it in his window, but I haven’t mustered the courage to do it yet. Would just be a great experiment… Any way thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Gary 😃🙏🏻
@@MichaelLagerstedt Thanks for the reply. I always enjoy your videos and have built electric guitars and I am working on two telecasters presently. Along with restoring a VW Beetle. Boy the things I get myself in to LOL.
A partscaster will give you all you want in one place. It works best for committed players who aren't going to quit playing and players who aren't inclined to sell gear. This isn't about "investment", its about playing.
Well said Shawn 👍😉 Thanks for watching 🙏🏻😃
YES IT IS!!!!
You are right… 🥳 thanks for your brief but accurate comment 😃🙏🏻
Totally agree that if you want something unique for yourself, it’s totally worth it! The first time - and maybe the second, or even third (you’re not likely to stop at one!) it’ll probably be a learning curve but the journey is almost as important as the end result. Shopping around for the perfect parts at the best price is fun in itself. There can be risks and some may pay off, others not but you get to know your instrument inside and out, in a way that you don’t with a bought guitar 👍🙂
I couldn’t have said it better 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’m hooked but I’m running out of space 😱 and my wife is not giving up more wall space 😅 Thanks for watching and a great comment 🙏🏻😃
I've spent about 1k on an offset tele I'm building from scratch (ok, I bought the neck...). that includes all the different finishing products I've bought to test on scraps, routing bits, sandpaper, etc. I could've just bought a nice used tele and be done with it, but then I'd miss out on everything I've learned, and the experience of designing and building my own!! it's been SUCH a fun project. My wife appreciates how busy it's kept me, too!
That’s just great Sean 👍😉 but I can’t help wondering what you are doing when you’re not building guitars that makes your wife encourage you to keep busy building 🤣. Sounds like a real win win 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙏🏻😃

What if I’m using the baritone telecaster? Is it really the biggest deal ever if my already longer scale length is a little longer?
Hi Kent, I don’t have experience with baritone guitars and haven’t researched it but when it comes to scale length it has to be pretty precise. The length of a string has to correspond exactly with the placement of the frets on the fretboard so a few millimetres too long or too short makes the instrument impossible to tune so it’s in tune all over the fretboard. Thanks so much for watching and good luck with your project 😉👍
