So much to explore each day, so much to learn and so much to share about life in general and life with an autistic toddler. The world is different for everyone and we enjoy sharing what we know about being on the autism spectrum from our daughter. She is the youngest of 3 and this is our first time really navigating autism. We want to make her life as enjoyable as possible while trying to maintain some form of normalcy as a family.
Our daughter was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 2 with level 2 in both areas (social communication and restrictive, repetitive behaviors) the levels can change during her lifetime anywhere from 1 to 3 with 3 needing the most support. She can be reevaluated at age 5 to see if anything has changed especially since she does receive ABA therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and therapeutic horseback riding. Come along and learn how she interacts with the world.
Today we visit an amazing coffee shop which employs special needs individuals, we take you along to a cute splash pad, have horseback riding, go to aba therapy and get two new toys! One is a rainbow unicorn puzzle track and the other is a cute rainbocorn kittycorn surprise (NOT SPONSORED) She loves opening up the toys! Who doesn't?
It's just so fun to see how she interacts with new toys/ items. Of course if something becomes too overwhelming we remove it and try again at a later time. Sometimes that works sometimes it does not. We want to show you how she plays with toys that are not specifically designed for special needs children and how they too can have fun with regular toys.
You will also see how she (and we) navigate her condition with Hypotonia and how we continue to integrate her in all our daily activities trying to desensitize her to the busy world. Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not. What might be happening and now please do remember this is all new terrain that we as parents are navigating, we are not experts and only try and try again to understand her feelings as best as we can.
Hypotonia is present in a large majority of individuals on the Autism Spectrum. It is a lifelong condition and the degrees can vary but what it does is it can make you tired very fast. You need more breaks than other individuals.
If anything we hope this opens up your knowledge of special needs individuals and how we can act and understand them better in society.
