Psalms for the 27th Evening (Anglican chant) - Guildford Cathedral Choir (Barry Rose)
O Lord save your people who put their trust in you
I am a Catholic but love the Anglican chants
"It's the end boys. We've done our duty, we can go now."
Heaven!
I love this
Glory to his holy name. ❤
Where can I find the score for this?
May juses Christ be praise
The words to this song are incredible - very profound.
He wrote a communion service too
Heavenly chants! I’m blessed to be able to sing these chants in our Ordinariate Chair of St. Peter Catholic parish.
Nice one please 🙏 in the sheet music pdf.
There is no "sheet music" available. You might be able to locate it at www.anglicanchant.nl.
These chants comforts me.
Definitely the best canticles ever written 100%, and since I am a sop and I have sang in a church choir almost all my life I used to sing the solo as a treble and this and it is the only piece of music I sing second sop 😅
i was 23 in that year 😄
This part is great too.
SMUKT! HALF A KEY UP!
So good.
And this joins the goodly company of Liked Videos by AOS!!! 😂
about time too old boy 🙄
One that got away sorry! Yet another Like for this channel So glad it is still available it is a SUPERB collection 😀😃😄😁😊
Thank you!
These chants they be so tender, they breaketh my heart in twain!
Trebles' favourite....the best chance to hear our Vicars Choral and Lay Clerks on song and the finest set of dramatic set-pieces, the best (my personal favourite) being 'and the redeemed shall walk there'. A pity about about the tedious note-spinning 'stile antico' movement 'And the ransomed of the Lord' but the rest is most engaging.
Thanks for this: this choir was sublime. The setting by Croft is new to me too.
Thank you for uploading this. God bless.
We were carefully instructed as soloists about diction, & not to sing; "He heapeth up, heapeth up breeches!" (as well as, "and dever shall be, world without tend, amen". But that's for another video).
Sung at Admiral Lord Nelson's funeral. (Or so we were told at school!)
Although I am a decidedly Ernest Lough fan, this is quite superb. 2 things I notice: 1) That Barry Rose uses the shortened "EL" version, rather than the longer version usually heard today. 2) That the tempo is beautiful, again, similar to the Thalben-Ball recording, unusual for 1972? My suspicion is that Barry Rose was, like me, a secret fan of EL & TB! And NO wonder!
See czcams.com/video/gEL2RhF_lq0/video.html. Barry was in fact GTB's successor as Religious Music Adviser to the BBC.
@@ArchivesofSound How interesting! So my hunch was not incorrect. GTB + EL will never be surpassed. (my opinion). Many thanks for the reply & link.
Lovely interplay between choir, soloist, and organ. Masterful composition that "anchors" the text in the heart and mind of the hearer.
They need better diction. I can barely understand what they sing.....
Magnificent performance!
Thank you!
I learned this by the time I was 12 years old. I used to sing the descant. I am now 78 years old and I still remember it.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
This recording seems to be around a quarter tone sharper than A440. Was the Guildford Cathedral tuned higher than A440 at that time or has something happened to the original recording to make it now sound sharper?
😂😂10😊
Beautifully sung. And that huge acoustic is astonishing. Really suits Bruckner!
This is heavenly, the Anglican Communion is blessed
Ok So far was a por of this choir, this recording BUT it is the the best very BUT I have heard so my many versions over the years But bloody hell we we were the very best. Barry Rose had the vision and he amalgamated a a very rare collection of rare talent into the best best choir in the world - ever. Been around the world, heard many things, this is raw GREATEST ever/
Heavenly. One of the most beautiful Sanctus I've heard
Thank you!
Love this!
Lovely performance of this great anthem.
Thank you.
Thank you! Which version of the Holy Bible do they use?
None. It's the Book of Common Prayer: justus.anglican.org/resources/bcp/1928/Psalms.htm
I love to start this recording at about the 20 minute mark. There is nothing like hearing God So Love the World in its intended context. This especially in light of the incomparably performance of this iconic anthem.
I sang this Easter cantata at SBHS in San Bernardino,CA. I LOVE this cantata and remember Dutch out choir director and hours of practice ‼️ Beautiful memories 😊❤️
I sang it for 6 years as a boy at All Saints Episcopal Church in RVA. It was my favorite
Still the best recording. Sang all the way through as if sometimes do to remind me of my choir boy days in the mid 1950s it brings back so many wonderful; music memories , thanks for posting as i have lost my lp.
That’s Christ the Lord is Risen Today, but in a totally different melody/ tune. Interesting.🤔
I’m keeping up the tradition of having a Good Friday sing through today (2024) - thank you for making this available.
Sing this cantata at Immanuel baptist church in yangon under George Poba's leadership. This was six decades ago. Still remember the words. Brings back such wonderful memories.
I was looking for a setting of Psalm 31 (11-16 & 18) when I landed on this playlist. Thanks for the many uploads and the pointing on each one! I grew up in St. George’s Cathedral Choir (Perth, Western Australia) under the direction of Simon Lawford, and some of these are quite familiar. If you have a recording of Psalm 31 that you could please send me in the direction of that would be excellent.
At evensong we sang only the psalms appointed for Evening Prayer. Unfortunately Psalm 31 is appointed for Morning Prayer.
@@ArchivesofSound Ah, I see. Thank you for letting me know - and thanks again for the great recordings.
That was wonderful. One of my best memories from treble choir.
