  • Guildford Cathedral Choir, directed by Barry Rose:
Recording session in Guildford Cathedral, March 1970:
(The Easter “concert” that resulted from this recording session was broadcast on the BBC Overseas Service and has never been heard in the UK. Only one of the several “safety tapes” - complete with out-takes - that were made during the session has survived, and we present it here as the only example we have of Barry Rose directing a recording session, with the choir singing from the choir stalls. Although it ends rather abruptly as the tape runs out, this recording gives a good idea of the choir at work)
    1. Love’s redeeming work is done (“Savannah”)
    2. Jesus Christ is risen today (“Easter Hymn”)
    3. Alleluia (Traditional Nigerian)
    4. Since by Man came Death (G F Handel)
5a. O Death, where is thy sting? (G F Handel)
5b. But thanks be to God (G F Handel)
    6. O sons and daughters (Henry Walford Davies) - incomplete

Marvelous. Watching this from Australia and lamenting the end of such divine services.
