It does record directly on MP4 but only on the lower resolution settings. The battery I got lasts approximately 2 hours of use. It's a third party battery though and you can buy other ones with better capacity. Yes, it does have a microphone input and headphone jack for monitoring. Unfortunately the low light quality is not that great.

Apparently you have to use the original camcorder to “finalize” the content on the disc before it’s able to be played in a player

The camera should export video with the RCA cables automatically. It depends on what kind of system/capture device you are using to connect the camcorder to the computer.

Also, if you are using a video out cable that has a 3.5mm connection in the camcorder side, try switching around the yellow/white/red connections in the computer side to see if you get video. Sometimes those cables are proprietary and have different connections.

You can't because there are no analog TV signals anymore (at least in the US). You can buy modern versions of this for digital TV but they're not made by Sony and reception seems to not be as good.

@@erasertech16 There is a device called HLLY TVX-50M capable of transmitting VHF/UHF signals to television sets with range about 200 feet. I made a risky move of ordering it, according to CZcams video it is compatible with NTSC and PAL TV set. Also cannot find the company who made it, the website is long gone.

You'll probably need an adapter for your phone. Depending on iPhone or Android, it would need to be lightning/USB-C to HDMI. I know there are some adapters that will do that but I've never tried it.

You can but you won't be able to play the files. You need to rip them using software like Handbrake. Check out the video I posted just after this one. I go into detail about that.

You can also buy clip on adapters that extend an 8cm disc to 12cm.

That's unfortunate. The disc needs to be finalized to be able to rip it. Can you at least play the videos using the camcorder? You can always try to capture the video using the a/v port and a video capture device.

So the cable came in and it fits, but I don't see the camera on my Qucktime new movie display. Do I need some special software to read this? Also nowhere in the manual (which you can download) does it say I need to finalize the disk to read it in a pc. It says the following if you don't mind reading it. I need help. Cautions: 
Only IBM PC/AT compatible PC’s with Window98 installed can be used with the PC Connection Software. Read following ”Condition in which PC connection software can be used” carefully. When this DVD camcorder is connected in the USB terminal of PC, it will be recognized as an external DVD-RAM drive of PC. If the mini-DVD is not finalized then you'll need to find a similar camcorder. I don't think you can do much with an unfinalized disc.

Yes, you can use a converter box instead of all the adapters. I thought of that after I made the video lol.

I have the AX43 A. I think the display is the same size but they upgraded the display resolution to match the AX53.
