This is not a very ambitious program since it’s replacement only and bearing in mind that the current size of the Dutch navy is the result of big cuts before. The destroyer/frigates replacement might bring a wider range of armament/firepower. But it would be better to replace the 4 destroyers by 5 and the 4 submarines by 5. Furthermore, next to re replacement of the current frigates, the OPV’s should be replaced by frigates as well. Keeping in mind the OPV’s were build to serve interests of Dutch shipyards rather than the Dutch navy’s needs. The idea to replace the two amphibious ships by smaller ones might be a strategic one. But they are given such multiple tasks that it seriously endangers their amphibious role. It might be better to such buy two and add two (relatively cheap) Crossover 139 Fast Combatant - XO 139 CF by Damen shipyards. To end with. Given the recent succes and importance of drones in modern warfare it might be interesting to look at (the also relatively cheap) new drone mothership project of the Portuguese navy. All by all this could be a 6 destroyers, 6 frigates, two amphibious ships, two crossover 139 CF navy, possibly with an added drone mothership (next to some minor ships and the already in service Karel Doorman). A big improvement of capacity, but financially feasible. Also making the Dutch more adding to European naval strength, the destroyers could support the UK and French carrier groups. Sometimes romantic dreamers talk about a new Dutch carrier. That would be spending a lot of money for a carrier that would have low capacities and would classify more as an amphibious assault ship with a few fighter planes on it, leaving no financial space for surface combatants with real firepower. Let me know what your thoughts are about this!

It is a disgrace that the Dutch Navy doesn't have at least 2 (preferably 4) Hospital ships that can be deployed anywhere in the World when there are disasters or wars.

i actually hope Belgium will also parter up and buy 1 or 2 air defence frigates when the Dutch launch those ships. Our gouvernement who are still forming said they are looking into a multi role ship 2 more frigats and 2 more coastal defence ships. Since we are partnered up with the Dutch i really hope it will become reality and we will finally have a navy

The French submarines was chosen for a single reason: our corrupt prime minister (our worst prime minister ever, which is why the Dutch dislike him, life only got worse because of him) pressured for the French subs to get support from Macron for him to become NATO secretary general. He wants to get this post but in fact destroyed the Dutch military with huge cuts and never did abide to the NATO 2% norm. He never served in the military. It would be a shame if he gets this post. The LPD's are not that old at all and are still capable enough to be replaced. They can transport LCU's and smaller landingcraft. You can move them further out to conduct landing operations. They are also capable to transport army equipment like Leopard 2 A6, CV9035 and Pzh2000 and bring them to shore with LCU's. This gives the marines support with real firepower.

I think it's important to remember that we're creating shorad solutions based on Ukraine's war where unfortunately they don't have air superiority nor enough armor to take positions and are thus forced to fight a static trench war, i honestly don't think the drone threat would be that high if nato would be deployed there. So sure build CHEAP effective shorad platforms to give to Ukraine so they can stop taking unnecessary casualties (exp against glide bombs) but lets not forget to take lesson about all the other valuable things we're learning from that war and improve the rest, example cheaper AA , better mobile arty and mlrs and shells/rockets, cheaper fire and forget AT, better engi platforms for demining/breaching fortifications and the list goes on an on. In the end tbh the key word here is "CHEAP", doesn't matter if we have slightly or way better everything if the opponent have the same stuff but 100x our amount because they can mass produce slightly worse stuff 100x cheaper.

100 rounds? With the idea that there will be drone SWARMS in the future moving over the battle field, that does not seem like enough rounds that are immediately available.

When drones get smarter with AI (or are operated manually), they will exploit the blind spot created by the driver's cabin and attack from a low angle from the front.
