- Update on the rMCM program with Commander Renauld Hock, Project Leader, during the Combined Naval Event (CNE) 2024. The rMCM program calls for the replacement of the mine warfare capability in both Belgium and the Netherlands.
=====================
Six vessels will be built for the Belgian Navy and six for the Royal Netherlands Navy. France is joining the program and will be using the same mothership design.
This program was awarded in 2019 to Belgium Naval & Robotics, the consortium formed by Naval Group and Exail, following an international competition. In addition to the ships, about one hundred drones will be produced. These will be integrated inside a toolbox that will equip each vessel.
Naval Group, as overall architect and prime contractor, is responsible for the design of the ships, the overall integration, and the testing and commissioning of the mission system (combat system and mine countermeasures system).
Kership, a joint venture between Naval Group and Piriou, is in charge of the production of the twelve vessels.
Exail, as co-contractor, is in charge of the unmanned drones’ system. Most of these drones will be produced in Ostend, Belgium.

Love hearing news of this aspect of global naval defense measures. Served as a Naval Reservist aboard MCM-1 Avenger Class mine countermeasure ships, Reserve Unit. Full steam ahead!
Thanks so much.
Very good
with ageing Lerici class, Gaeta class and Frankenthal-class, maybe the Italian and German Navy should just buy a few also.
Indonesia needs an offensive mine warfare ship, so if it is available in near future it would be great...☺️☺️
I would be interested in knowing the costs. Roughly how much per ship & with the Unmanned mine hunter equipment.
Is he a Lt. Cmdr or Cmdr?
Not sure about Belgian Navy rankings
his rank directly translates to english is corvette captain which is comparable to a lieutenant commander in the US navy.
I wonder why a little country like Belgium, with a tiny coastline, and completely at the mercy of its more powerful neighbors, bothers to have a navy.
I feel like "at the mercy of its more powerful neighbors" is a weird way of phrasing it considering they have great relations with aforementioned neighbors
Not really…. Belgium has been crushed by its neighbors often in its history and if you think Europe is anywhere close to being stable, you might consider reading more on geopolitics in your region.
The Belgian Navy is integrated into the Dutch Royal Navy and is led by the Benelux Admiralty. There is a large Belgian fleet in the Dutch naval port of Den Helder. Belgian and Dutch sailors attend the same naval academy and for a few years now both countries have been wearing the same new naval uniforms. The Netherlands and Belgium are also jointly purchasing naval vessels, including four new frigates.
For example, the Dutch land army and tank division are under German command. So there are more and more military integrations within the EU.
@@olddiver no offence mate, I'm no expert but I try to do my share of reading and I think it's safe to say Belgium is not under threat of invasion from Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France of the UK
Looks a mess, whats with the rust?
It's surface rust. The outer layer of paint rusts and protects the metal.
It'll be cleaned up when the vessel is actually finished
Insane anyone would pay for warship with no weapons...
Not every warship is for direct combat.
